A Letter from the Vice President of Recruitment
We are so happy you have decided to go Greek!. Recruitment will be one of the most memorable experiences during your time here. At times it will seem stressful, but in the end the result will all be worth it.
The Recruitment Team, yourRecruitment Counselors, and myself will be available throughout the pricess for questions if you need to someone about how the process is going. We are here to you ensure you have the best recruitment experience possible and help you find your home. My advice is to keep an open mind and try and open up during the process. Not everything always goes as planned but you can grow from every conversation and expeirence you have. You will meet women who may end up being your best friends so be your genuine self and the cards will fall into place.
During the two weeks of Recruitment, you will meet women from each of the 11 sororities on campus. Remember to enjoy the experience, take time to breathe and reflect. Be your most authentic self, there is a chapter for everyone no matter your personality, background, or interests. Keep an open mind and trust the process and you will find a chapter that will help you grow as a person and align with your core values. Whichever chapter you join, we all come together as members of the Greek community.

"My advice to the women going through recruitment is to choose wherever you feel the most yourself and do not worry about where your friends may end up. I have maintained close relationships with girls in every other chapter on campus and have found my people in my own chapter."

Things to Remember
Coffee is not a meal! Make sure you are eating meals throughout the days to keep your body nourished and energized. Remember to bring snacks and water to the rounds. You can leave it outside the house you are going to. Get some sleep. The days during recruitment are long and you don’t want to be falling asleep while visiting houses.
Taking care of your physical and emotional well being during recruitment is essential for a great recruitment experience!
Taking Care of Yourself During Recruitment
It is normal to be nervous. Recruitment can be intimidating for a lot of girls and it is totally fine to be nervous. Any way that you feel about recruitment is totally valid and everyone can understand because they have been exactly where you are. Use your resources if you are feeling down! The university has many resources such as the counseling center and the psychological consultation center. Don’t be afraid to reach out if you need help.

Things to Remember Be yourself! If you are your true self you will get the most out of the experience. If you trust the process, you will find your new home. Your recruitment counselors are there for you! Don’t be afraid to go to them for anything you need. Remember they were in your shoes once! Taking Care of Yourself During Recruitment Remember to do some mental check ins with yourself throughout recruitment! It can be very helpful to take a step back and analyze how you are feeling. The two biggest events we all look forward to every year are Philanthropy Week in the fall and Greek Week in the spring. All week long there are several events to attend and participate in all while simultaneously fundraising for some amazing causes. Along with those events, there are so many smaller ones throughout the year that also help to bring our Greek life community closer as a whole.
We are always looking for more ways to come together as the Greek life community and allow everyone to make those connections in every sorority, not just the one you end up in.
There is also always the opportunity for the different sororities to attend each other’s philanthropy events.
During Halloween season, we always host the “Not so Spooky” Halloween event where children from the area will come trick or treating through Fraternity Circle.
Programming
Programming for URI Greek Life is one of the most amazing experiences where we are able to bring all the chapters together as a whole to participate in super fun events and fundraisers.

In the Spring during Greek Week we raised over $200,000 for pediatric cancer research and awareness to donate to The Cure Starts Now, Arms Wide Open, and Glimmer of Hope Foundation. Last year, all of our chapters came together as a Greek community to fundraise $106,000 during Philanthropy Week in the Fall semester for the Matt Alsfeld Memorial Fund, Dare to Dream Ranch, and PeaceLove, which are mental health support and awareness organizations.
and
Each chapter also fundraises for individual philathropies and plans seperate community service projects for sisters to participate in. It is a great way to give back to the community and learn about different philanthropies on campus.
This past spring we had a Greek wide campus cleanup project for Earth Day. We around 300 students come and help clean up our campus!
Philanthropy Service Service is one of URI Greek Life's core values, which our members demonstrate through various philanthropic and volunteer efforts throughout the year.
