Welcome to Panhellenic PANHEL

101

What is Panhel? The Panhellenic Association, or Panhel, is the comprehensive name of the entire women’s sorority system. Every woman who is a member of one of the ten sororities on campus is a member of the Panhellenic Association. The Panhellenic Council is the governing body of the women’s sorority system at the University of Rhode Island.

Where does Panhel come from? The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) is the governing body of the Panhellenic Council. All policies instituted by the Panhellenic Council have been developed in accordance with NPC policies and recommendations.

Our purpose The purpose of this non-profit organization shall be to promote cooperation among sororities, to formulate rules and procedures for recruitment and new member education, to regulate intersorority activities, and to insure cooperation between sororities and other student organizations and the University administration.

"We get so worried about being pretty. Let's be pretty kind. Pretty funny. Pretty smart. Pretty strong." | 3

A letter from the ent of d i s e r P e Vic Public d n a t n e Recruitm s Relation Welcome to the University of Rhode Island and Formal Sorority Recruitment. We are so happy you have decided to go Greek! You are about to embark on the most exciting week of your college career and although it may seem stressful, the reward at the end is one that will make your time at URI unforgettable.Â

Joining a sorority not only gives you new friendships but also the opportunity to give back to the community through philanthropy and service and the possibility of holding leadership positions. During the next two weeks you will meet women from each of the 10 sororities on campus. There is a chapter for everyone no matter your personality, background or interests. Whichever chapter you join, we all come together as members of the Greek Community. My advice to you is to keep an open mind throughout recruitment and trust the mutual selection process. You are about to meet women that may become your future best friends or even bridesmaids! Don’t take yourself too seriously, be yourself and remember to have fun. If at any point throughout recruitment you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your Recruitment Counselor, the Recruitment Team or myself. We are all here to help you find your home!

Chapter Dues Breakdown To be an active member of a chapter, sisters must pay dues each semester to contribute to the organization. Below is a breakdown of the expenses you may come across as a new member and sister. For some, expenses can be a dealbreaker on if they are joining a sisterhood or not. We are here to reassure you that each chapter has their own method of payment plans in place to assist their members in paying their dues. Dues are each organization's way of making things happen- without dues there wouldn't be holiday and end of year celebrations, sisterhood events, endless t-shirts, and more.Â
