We started school this year with a new freshman class and new Principals at the Englewood Campus. I was fortunate to speak with and interview Dr. Davis, who is the new Assistant Principal at Englewood.

Dr. Frank Davis was born and raised in Chicago. When Dr. Davis first learned about Urban Prep around 2006, he thought it was amazing and different. He was a fan from the outside looking in. “They were dressed in a prestigious manner that you normally wouldn't see in a regular school,” said Dr. Davis. In 1995, Dr. Davis attended the Million Man March. At the time, he was pursuing his Masters in Computational Mathematics. While at the march, he recalled a speech by Minister Louis Farrakhan stating “What are you doing to help your people?”.

Dr. Davis stated that at that moment, he was inspired to change his course of study and work in the field of education for young Black men.

Later in 2018, Dr. Davis decided to return to school to pursue his doctorate in leadership. One of his reasoning was to show his children that a Black man could reach the highest level of education. He graduated with his Ph.D. in leadership in 2021. He wants to be seen by young Black men, particularly at Urban Prep, as a mentor rather than an authority figure so that they will not falter in the face of any challenges that lie ahead of them. Dr. Davis is a long-time Chicago Bears fan noting that he really enjoyed the legendary Walter Payton’s play style.

Dr. Davis’ favorite quote is: “A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.” - Malcolm X
