DEEP ROOTS WIDE HORIZONS
FOREWORD
It is with pride and immense anticipation that we introduce Uppingham Cairo: Deep Roots, Wide Horizons. A Great Tradition Reimagined.
From the moment Uppingham Cairo opened its doors, we set out not simply to replicate the excellence of our British namesake, but to create something new. A school of international calibre, rooted in tradition yet confidently contemporary; a school where every child is inspired, challenged supported and known.
This document sets out our direction for the next five years. It is both ambitious and grounded, shaped by the extraordinary achievements of our founding year and informed by our long-term aspirations. By 2030, we aim to be recognised as the leading British international school in the Middle East and counted among the finest international schools globally.
Our mission is not just to prepare pupils for examination success but to equip them with the skills, character and vision to shape the future. We do so with a strong sense of moral purpose, a commitment to excellence and deep gratitude for the partnership of our community.
Emma Webb Headmistress, Uppingham Cairo September 2025

INTRODUCTION From Foundation to Future
The academic year 2024–2025 marked a historic beginning. In just one year, Uppingham Cairo achieved British School Overseas (BSO) accreditation through the Independent Schools Inspectorate, gained full accredited membership of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS), COBIS, BSME and AoBSO. We were welcomed as a Member of AGBIS and as an Associate Member of the prestigious Head’s Conference (HMC), with full Membership awaiting the full opening of our Sixth Form. We also became accredited examination centres for Oxford AQA and Pearson Edexcel. These accolades reflect not only compliance with the highest international standards but the early fulfilment of a vision grounded in integrity, ambition and care.
We launched a distinctive Day Boarding programme. One that is unprecedented in the region and which has already begun to redefine the pupil experience. Running from 7.30am until 7.00pm in the Junior School and 9.00pm in the Senior School, four days per week,
this model allows our pupils to access the richness of our educational and co-curricular environment in both depth and breadth.
Through elite partnerships with Chelsea FC, NBA Basketball, BEST Swimming Academy, the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy, Nour El Sherbini Squash and Paulina Nikolova Gymnastics, we are delivering a sports coaching programme that rivals the best in the world.
All of this takes place within a purposeful, mobile phone free environment, that has released our pupils from the stresses of social media and has enabled them to develop a sense of presence and clarity, deeper connections with those around them and a stronger capacity for attention, empathy and authentic self-expression.
Looking ahead, the next five years will see our academic and structural foundations mature. In September 2025, we will begin delivering GCSE courses; in 2026, we will open our Sixth Form offering A Levels; and in 2027, we will introduce the IB Diploma Programme as a second Sixth Form pathway.
By then, Uppingham Cairo will be a fully established 3–18 institution offering multiple routes to academic and personal success.
The opening of Uppingham New Cairo, Uppingham’s second campus in Cairo, in 2028 will bring fresh opportunities for collaboration, professional growth and healthy competition across two schools united by a shared ethos. At the same time, our main campus will continue to expand with additional state-of-the-art sports facilities, a larger-scale theatre, and bespoke staff accommodation that meets the expectations of professionals teaching in a world-leading institution.
Most significantly, we will introduce world-class full boarding, opening our doors not only to pupils from across Cairo but to those from the wider region and overseas. This development will transform Uppingham Cairo into a truly international school community. One that is diverse, ambitious and globally connected.
As part of our growing civic and regional responsibility, we will also continue to support the work of the British Council by sharing our expertise and contributing actively to the professional dialogue within the broader educational community in Cairo and beyond.
This strategic plan charts our course to 2030.It is guided by a clear sense of purpose, defined by ten strategic pillars, and underpinned by our belief in the transformative power of education.

OUR PURPOSE
At Uppingham Cairo, our purpose is to inspire in young people an excitement for the future by empowering them with the skills, ambition and confidence to navigate their own pathway through life, accompanied by a sense of responsibility to build a better future for the communities of which they will be a part.
We believe that education must awaken curiosity, build resilience, cultivate empathy and embolden action. Our pupils are not only prepared to succeed; they are encouraged to lead, serve and thrive, wherever life may take them.
This purpose is lived out daily: in our classrooms, where intellectual challenge is woven with compassion; in our co-curricular life, where opportunity is both broad and deep; and in our culture, which prioritises wellbeing, belonging and high standards. We are a community built not just on excellence, but on care, creativity, and moral responsibility.
STATEMENT OF INTENT
By July 2030, Uppingham Cairo will be recognised as the leading British international school in the Middle East and among the finest globally. We will be a fully established 3–18 school offering GCSE, A Level and IB Diploma pathways, with a thriving boarding community drawn from Cairo, the region and overseas. Our pupils will be known for their intellectual curiosity, strength of character and global outlook.
We will be a beacon of educational innovation and pedagogical excellence, attracting and developing outstanding teachers. Our Day Boarding model will set a new international standard for holistic education, and our co-curricular provision will be second to none.
Uppingham Cairo will not only be a place where children, young people and the professionals who care for them thrive. It will be a school that embraces and shapes the future.

In a rapidly evolving global landscape, we recognise that many of the careers our pupils will pursue do not yet exist. It is for this reason that we focus on developing adaptable, forward-thinking individuals. Young people who are curious, resilient and grounded in values. CONCLUSION A Tradition Reimagined, A Future Unfolding
We are a young school with an old soul. Rooted in the tradition of one of Britain’s most distinguished independent schools, yet bold enough to imagine something new.
In just one year, Uppingham Cairo has established itself as a school of substance and spirit. We have set high standards, built a vibrant and inclusive community, and achieved recognition from the most respected international bodies. We have also laid down deep foundations intellectually, ethically and culturally, for a school that is not merely excellent, but transformative.
The next five years will define Uppingham Cairo. Not only in the eyes of our community, but on the world stage. A Great Tradition Reimagined is more than a strategy; it is a declaration of intent. It reflects the confidence we have in our people, our purpose and our pupils.
We are grounded in the values of excellence, curiosity, integrity and care, and we are ready to lead.
Ready to become the best school in the Middle East and one of the finest international schools in the world.
To realise this ambition will require dedication, discipline and unity of purpose. It will demand courageous leadership, uncompromising standards and a shared willingness to grow. But more than anything, it will require belief: belief in the power of education to transform lives, and belief in our collective capacity to shape the future.
Let us move forward together. Staff, pupils, parents, governors and partners. Not merely with plans, but with purpose. Uppingham Cairo is not just preparing pupils for tomorrow. Together, we are building a school that will inspire the world, today.
