UPEI Music Students Nationally Recognized Two UPEI music students—Morgan Wagner and Emily Emberton—were
nationally recognized after placing second and third, respectively, in the Canadian Music Educators’ Association’s Kenneth Bray Undergraduate Essay Competition. This year’s competition attracted 30 submissions from across Morgan Wagner
Canada. The competition was judged in a blind review process by a panel of 10 nationally recognized scholars in the field of music education.
UPEI Celebrates Distinguished Alumni The UPEI Alumni Association presented its annual awards as part of its summer reunion weekend. The Honourable J. Armand DesRoches, SDU’63, was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award, and J. Paul S. Young, BSc’02, BScR’07, MBA’12, received the Inspiring Young Alumni Award. The Distinguished Alumni Award commemorates a graduate for his or her outstanding contributions to knowledge, the arts, the community, the University, or humanity. The Inspiring Young Alumni Award honours a J. Paul S. Young, Honourable J. Armand DesRoches
graduate, under the age of 40, who has shown outstanding determination in achieving success at a young age.
Suzanne Conquers The Strait UPEI fifth-year student and swim team member Suzanne Nicholson
successfully swam the Northumberland Strait to raise funds for her team. She set a fundraising goal of $10,000 and raised $11,000 through her Suzanne Nicholson
initiative. Nicholson is a UPEI swimming record-holder, and a dedicated and inspirational Panther athlete.
Associate Professors in the Department of History Lead National Research Associations Two faculty members within UPEI’s Department of History took office as presidents of their respective national research associations. Dr. Edward MacDonald began his second year as president of the Canadian Catholic Historical Association, and Dr. James Moran his first Dr. James Moran, Dr. Edward MacDonald
