In honor of Nuestra Señora de la Salud, the seven colleges and the senior high school department battled in the first Street and Arena Festival Dance competition to mark the first day of the University Week at the Amphitheater, November 13.

Fierce Fascinations

Both entertaining and exhilarating rides await everyone as UNO-R begins its University-Week. U-WEEK’s Peryahan is one of the most anticipated features of the annual celebration. A ferris wheel that turns in a heart-pounding way—one might feel their hearts upside down. The new ride, bump cars, make someone drift and drive— giving fast and furious feels even though the space is limited. Lastly, the spinning pendulum arose where the passengers might feel the presence of heaven as they reach for the skies. These amusement rides display great amount of thrilling wonders that transcend us to wonderland both in body and soul.

Warning: These rides are not for the faint of heart.

Extreme caution is advised. Which one will be your favorite for these year’s ride choices?*

Delarma hailed as Miss UNO-R 1st Runner-up

ELEGANT DEMEANOUR. The six delegates from different colleges vie for the crown of Miss UNO-R 2023; CBA bet claims title.

Displaying captivating grace and beauty, College of Engineering bet Cailah Jhane Delarma rose as the First Runner-up during the Search for Miss UNO-R 2023, at the University Gymnasium, November 14.

Cailah, second-year Electrical Engineering

student, bagged the following corporate awards: Seda Capital Central Corporate Choice Award, Nana’s Choice Award, and the Face of G-Factor.

“Life has a unique sequence of opportunities and selection.

It takes courage, strength, and

wisdom to create a beautiful legacy. As I wear the crown that nurtures, I will carry the torch of hope so I can embrace the depth and excellence,” Delarma expressed in the Top 3 question and answer portion.

Flauting her incredible poise and bearing, she

also dominated the minor awards, taking home the People’s Choice Award, Best in Production Number, Best in Swimsuit, and Best in Evening Gown.

CBA’s bet Ms. Uriel Minaves reigned as Miss UNO-R ‘23, with COED’s Glady Adeva bagged 2nd runner-up.*

engineering programs hold seminars for day 2

Expanding horizons and perspectives, civil and mechanical engineering students participated in the seminars led by their respective organizations, for Day 2 of UWEEK ‘23, November 14.

Engr. Mark Rovin Pido and Ar. Julianne De La Paz were the resource speaker for the Structural engineering seminar with

their topics “Feasibility Study of Bypasses Diversion Roads, Bridges, and Missing Links” and “Space Planning and the National Building Code of the Philippines.”

For construction management seminars, Engr. Anthony S. Maalihan, Jr. and Engr. Henry Castro discussed “National Right-of-Way” and “Paint

Application and Surface Preparation.”

Dynamic enthusiasms of the mechanical engineering studes emerged with Engr.

Kevin James P. Galavo’s “From Campus to Career” talk.

The seminars were spearheaded by ACES, PICE, and MESS, respectively.*

Acacemic Exhibit

Seven colleges, including the College of Engineering (CoEng) took part in showcasing unique presentations in the Annual Academic Exhibits, at the LC Building, November 14.

CoEng’s exhibit featured hands-on activities and interactive displays that will help studens and visitors to better understand the various engineering concepts and projects

Tigers join in Mono-no-Aware Convention Flaunting the artistic combination of the KPOP and Anime worlds, enthusiasts and participants from the College of Engineering gathered at the University Main Lobby as the Mono-NoAware Fest Convention commenced today at Day 3 of the University Week, November 15.

Providing in-depth perspective different fields of engineering, seminar series hosted by engineering organization continued on Day 3 of U-WEEK ‘23.

Civil engineering construction management students delved into Prestressed Concrete Construction Methods and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) with resource speakers Engr. Alain A. Aujero and Engr. Bladimar M. Pantillo.

Structural engineering majors also immersed in OSH and Painting 101 with Engr.

Pantillo and Mr. Michael Glenn Tolbo.

Meanwhile, the chemical engineering department eld their seminar about Wastewater Treatment and Exploration of Sustainable

Wastewater Treatment Solution with Engr. Crishyl May Labios-Emboltura.

CoEng faculty also engaged in Item Analysis seminar with Mr. Nikko Paolo R. Calumpiano, LPT, MaEd who discussed the importance and process how to do item analyses, emphasizing that it is also one of the ways to know the effectiveness of the teachers to teach.

“Ini na seminar mangin beneficial indi lang sa mga teachers kung ’di sa aton nga mga students because we envision that they are in the receiving end of this seminar, to serve them better, to provide quality performance assessments. And siyempre, ang end goal is to really uplift them in their classroom performance,” Engr. Charlene Gelotin conveyed.*

bala sa mga fave songs ko, and of course, excited man ko i-sing ang ‘Backlight’, which is song ni Ado sa One Piece film, Red. Secondly, kulbaan, because this is my first time singing. I prepared by singing the song a lot and watching different live versions sa internet.

Being a fan really helped me with the contest. I enjoyed the experience,” victorious JPOP singing champion Rizle M. Patopatin, a third year student expressed in an interview.*

CoEng exhibits intellect in Recoleto Quiz Bowl

In an outstanding showcase of intelligence and teamwork, eight teams took part in Recoleto Quiz Bowl at the University Auditorium, November 15.

The competition was held in a series of rounds covering a wide range of topics from the old and new testaments of the Bible, with the College of Engineering attaining 60 points to finish in fourth place tied with the College of Education.

“The preparations that I did for the Recoleto Quiz

Bowl are reading some Bible stories and facts, and most importantly, fervently praying to God,” Eliana Flor J C. Sustento, one of the College’s representatives, shared in an interview.

Meanwhile, the College of Criminal Justice Education emerged as champions with 85 points, while the College of Information Technology and the College of Allied Medical Health Sciences trailed behind to claim the second and third spots, respectively.*

In a brilliant showdown of great minds, the seven colleges competed in Virtutis: the First Academic Olympiad to mark the fourth day of the University Week, November 16.

The College of Engineering showed versatility in literature, displaying wit and intellect in writing, grammar, presentation, and debate.

Participants of the Pagsulat ng Dagli were given the theme, “Ang Kapangyarihan ng Edukasyon,” while students for the Grammar Checker Challenge were

tested by their accuracy to spot errors in the English grammar, both in timepressured environments.

Meanwhile, two students from the Topic Presentation Contest showed creativity in producing their visual aid and confidence in presenting their topic, “Effective Study Habits for Success.”

Moreover, the College debaters showcased not only their knowledge of important societal issues but also their prowess in effective communication and critical thinking,

“To be honest, I was quite overthinking what our performance would look like especially since we made a bold choice not to hire a choreographer this time, and I am so happy it paid off. It was purely a collaborative effort among the members, with the help of the Engineering Student Council, engineering faculty, and of course, the students of engineering who helped us with our visuals. Let it be known that you can’t take the talent away from the College of Engineering,” MTV representative Mark Romeo Pagayon expressed.*

CoEng parades novel style in AmbassaCourse; Santillan bags 2nd place by Jade Francis Buenaventura In the celebration of innovation and sustainable creativity, 13 representatives from different colleges took center stage at AmbassaCourse Model 2023 with the theme, “Avant Garde: Unearthing the Spectrum of Academic Elegance” at the University Main Lobby, November 17, of the University Week.

As the runway unfolded, a mix of colors, styles and

designs showcased the diversity of talents across departments, transforming recycled courserelated materials into stunning costumes showcasing the artistic prowess of students.

Organized by the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) UNO-R and Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines: Student Edition (ICPEP.SE) UNO-R, electronics and computer engineering students delved into their respective seminars for the fifth day of UWEEK ‘23.

Engr. Jether James Ilad served as the resource speaker for ECE’s seminar with the theme “The Voyage to become an ECE.” Engr. Brian Jay Lumauag led the talk entitled “Exploring FPGAs: The Next Frontier in Processor Design,” and introduced the integrated circuit with its limitless possibilities for technological advancement for CpE students.

The two programs of the day extended the seminar series of the engineering department for U-WEEK ‘23.*

EESO&IIEE HOST SEMINAR Aiming to foster understanding of the electrical industry and efficiency, electrical engineering students gathered at the Little Theater for a Technical Seminar, November 18.

Engr. Miguel N. Trenuela, shared his insights about the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), Energy Efficiency and Conservation Law, and the EVIDA Law. “This is very important for our career path, so in the future, Energy Efficiency and the Department of Energy (DOE) will dive into a lot of aspects of our government life and daily lives, and hopefully, we can use and apply this in the future as registered electrical engineers someday,” electrical engineering student Ramil Christopher Centena shared in an interview.
