370 ENGINEERING STUDENTS ENGAGE IN BAGUIO-SUBIC-MANILA INDUSTRIAL TOUR 2023 Exploring Greater Heights in Construction: Civil Engineering Industrial Tour ‘23 by Danell Jumayao Delving into the structures of the metro, two hundred fifty (250) fourthyear civil engineering students participated in this year’s Industrial Tour dated from November 20 to 25. The six-day tour included immersion in various destinations from Baguio, Subic, and Manila where students visited and benchmarked multiple companies and construction sites to engulf themselves in the industry. “It’s amusing to see the difference in structures back home and at Luzon area. We were able to gain valuable perspectives from professionals during our tour,” CE student France Beatriz Caballero expressed. SM Engineering Design and Development learning tour highlighted the aspiring engineers’ first day as they took part in a company introduction and site visit to the ongoing construction of the extension of the Mall of Asia, on November 20. For the second day,

tigers dipped through the breeze of Baguio City — touring around their famous attractions such as Strawberry Farm and Wright Park, and also benchmarking at the St. Louis University and DPWH construction sites. The department also had the chance to visit the Casiciaco Recoletos Seminary in Baguio City. CE students explored the Multi-Rock Batching Plant and stopped by for leisure time at the Zoobic Safari at Subic on the third day, November 22. For the Manila tour, CE students went to various companies such as Steel Asia, DM Consuji Construction and Company, and Boysen Paints. The department also exlored ongoing construction sites at UP Diliman College of Arts and Letters, Las Pinas General Hospital, and Las Pinas Satellite Hospital. Coming close to the end of the tour, the Metropolitan Manila Development

Authority Flood Control and Sewerage Management Office (MMDA FCSMO) conducted a lecture regarding their division and shared insights about the on-site challenges they face as engineers, on November 24. The College of Engineering traversed through the exciting rides

at the Enchanted Kingdom and toured significant attractions in Manila such as Intramuros and Manila Cathedral. The department was accompanied by CE Department Head Engr. Stephen Ryan Sedel, Assistant Department Head Engr. Jose Gino Gutierrez, and CE professors Engr. Alvin Go Ping, Engr. Daniel Pollentes, Engr. Faith Geria, and Engr. Frances Quinco. Touring through multiple companies and gathering insights from professional engineers, the industrial tour aimed to expose aspiring civil engineers in their chosen industry, especially to workspaces and sites away from Negros.*
