ABOUT THE FACULTY One of the most beautiful professions is healing patients and saving human lives. At our institution we strive to train highly qualified professionals. Our Faculty has a long-standing tradition of excellence in research and teaching. Our Nobel laureate Albert Szent-Györgyi received the Nobel Prize for his scientific work related to the isolation of vitamin C from Szeged paprika, a research carried out at the University of Szeged.. Due to its educational, research, and patient care activity, the Faculty of Medicine is the largest of the university’s twelve faculties. Medical education is offered in three languages: Hungarian, English and German. The clinics at the Faculty serve as national and regional centres for a number of medical specialties, providing an appropriate practical resource for high-quality medical education. In recent years, our facilities have undergone significant infrustructural improvements, a state-of-the-art clinical building to house all fields of surgical care, as well as cardiology, neurology and haematology has been built. The Faculty runs 4 doctoral schools featuring 16 PhD programmes with nearly 150 Hungarian and international students. Students are offered the opportunity to enter PhD programmes during the last year of their graduate studies.

DOCTOR OF MEDICINE PROGRAMME (MD) SIX-YEAR, UNDIVIDED PROGRAMME
The Medical Programme covers six years, that is, 12 semesters. The first two years serve as the foundation of basic medical knowledge. From the third year theoretical training is extended with regular clinical practice, where students intensively take part in the work of the clinical departments and the teaching hospitals. The course is organized for students who feel unprepared for the regular health-science degree programs or who need help in reviewing basic sciences in English language. Students with outstanding academic achievements have a high chance to be admitted automatically to the Health Science degree programmes.
