Introducing the new Maker Space Charter!

The Maker Space is more than just a workspace - it’s a community built on creativity, collaboration, and respect. To reinforce our shared values and commitment to safe, inclusive, and equitable making, we’re excited to introduce the Maker Space Charter!
Designed and crafted by Maker Space Manager, Mike Walsh, the charter is proudly displayed on our wall. It serves as a clear guide to our ways of working, outlining the responsibilities of every Maker Space user. At its core, the charter is about fostering a friendly, respectful, and supportive learning environment where everyone feels welcome to explore, experiment, and innovate. We hope this initiative will strengthen our Salford Maker community and inspire even more creativity and collaboration.
Come check it out next time you’re in the space and let’s continue to make great things together!
/A Milestone for the Maker Space: Welcoming Our First Intern!
The Maker Space is thrilled to welcome Dan Bennett-Young as our very first intern, thanks to the Graduate Attainment Programme (GAP)! Dan joins us as a Design Technician on our Technical Team, where he'll be learning the ins and outs of the Maker Space, supporting students, and leading Maker Sessions. Over the next three months, he’ll be diving into hands-on experience, gaining invaluable skills, and helping to fuel creativity in our community.
The Graduate Attainment Programme is more than just an internship—it’s a stepping stone to success. This initiative provides graduates with paid opportunities to develop essential skills, gain real-world experience, and prepare for the dynamic challenges of a modern career. With the support of a comprehensive Career Management coaching and mentoring programme, participants like Dan are empowered to make the most of their internship and confidently take their next step into the professional world.
We’re excited to see what Dan will accomplish and how he’ll help shape the future of the Maker Space. Welcome, Dan!

Recently, we welcomed Fiona and Jen Humphries from the Hg Foundation, part of Hg Capital, which funds scholarships for Salford students pursuing STEM subjects. During their visit, our talented Student Instructors, Olivia Wilding and Faraz Falahi, led an engaging laser-cutting workshop for the scholars. The workshop focused on creating personalised, laser-etched map coasters. Each student downloaded a map of a meaningful place, engraved it onto a coaster, and added a custom location and text. This interactive session not only showcased the power of digital fabrication, but also highlighted our student instructor's presentation skills.

/ Celebrating Success: Go Beyond Women in STEM 2025 Inspires Change!
On March 5th, 2025, the Maker Space proudly hosted the second annual Go Beyond Women in STEM Celebration—a powerful event dedicated to breaking down barriers, amplifying voices, and championing change for women in STEM.
Powered by Morson Group’s STEM Foundation, this year’s event was bigger and bolder, featuring inspiring speakers, industry leaders, and future innovators. The incredible Dr. Emily Grossman delivered a thought-provoking keynote on emotional intelligence in STEM, while dynamic panel discussions tackled critical topics like Imposter Syndrome and the Dream Gap, offering valuable insights from top professionals.
Adding to the excitement, lightning talks shone a spotlight on groundbreaking research by female postgraduates in sports science, FinTech, and marine biology, proving that the future of STEM is brighter than ever.
But Go Beyond is more than just an event - it’s a movement. Alongside networking, mentoring, and coaching opportunities, we proudly celebrated the launch of the Women in STEM Student Society, a new initiative dedicated to fostering a supportive and empowering community for female STEM students.
Together, we’re shaping a future where women in STEM don’t just participate—they lead. Here’s to continuing the momentum and making an even bigger impact in 2026!
