/ ABOUT US

The Maker Space is a cutting-edge facility, that provides access to digital fabrication and additive manufacturing tools. Go Beyond: Celebrating Our FirstYear Women in STEM Lunch

Students engaged in open conversations, sought guidance and began building supportive networks. With insights from Dr Helen Whitehead, Ellie Jackson and Women in STEM society representatives, the event set the tone for a year focused on confidence, connection and helping women thrive.

/ Morson Maker Space Supports the Salford Business Awards!

The Maker Space team were proud to play a part in this year’s Salford Business Awards, supporting the University of Salford Business Innovation Services team including Jennifer Hinsley and Nicole Rathmill in producing the trophies for the event.

The Salford Business Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of local businesses across the city, recognising innovation, growth, and community contribution. Each award represents the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that continues to make Salford such a vibrant place to work and do business. Working closely with the Business Innovation Services team, the Maker Space helped bring the awards to life through the design and manufacture of the trophies.

This collaboration highlights how the University’s innovation ecosystem connects creative and technical expertise to support enterprise across Greater Manchester. It was inspiring to see so many deserving winners recognised for their hard work and achievements and we were thrilled to contribute in a small way to an evening celebrating Salford’s business excellence.

Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients!

/ Student Instructor Takeover: Jewellery Making Workshop with Libby Odai

At the end of October 2025, the Maker Space buzzed with creativity as Libby Odai, a third-year Prosthetics & Orthotics student and one of our talented Student Instructors, led a hands-on Jewellery Making Workshop.

Part of our ongoing Student Instructor Takeover series, the session invited participants to explore their creative side in a relaxed, beginner-friendly environment. Libby guided attendees through the process of designing their own earrings and necklaces using Adobe Illustrator, before watching their designs come to life with the laser and vinyl cutters in the Maker Space.

From quirky designs to bright and playful creations, everyone left with something unique — and a new set of digital design and making skills. The workshop offered a perfect opportunity for students to try something new, meet others, and gain hands-on experience with creative technology.

Feedback from the event was excellent, with participants praising Libby’s clear guidance, enthusiasm, and welcoming approach. These workshops are also paid opportunities for our Maker Space Student Instructors, who share their skills and passions while gaining valuable teaching and facilitation experience.
