Management Information Systems Today’s organizations require a variety of new experts,and developments in the next few years will demand MIS expertise of any professional administrator/manager who wishes to be competitive in his/her particular field. Although some positions necessitate more technical expertise than others, all require a balance between technical knowledge and organizational knowledge. The management information systems degree at UIS is designed to provide this balance. TARGET AUDIENCE:

• Individuals looking for a career in MIS • Professionals updating their theoretical knowledge and applicable skills in MIS

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

A GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale A baccalaureate degree Official transcripts GMAT or GRE test results. A score is required unless applicant has an overall undergraduate GPA greater than 3.00 or a graduate degree from an accredited U.S. university or 5 years of significant, professional experience in the MIS field (documentation of experience will be required). Completed application form Two semesters of accounting, one each of managerial and financial or ACC 311;   one semester of production/ operations management (e.g. BUS 322);   one semester of statistics (e.g. MAT 121);   one semester of college algebra or mathematics, or the equivalent; competency in a structured high-level programming language such as Java, C++, Visual Basic, COBOL, C, Fortran, etc; either through course work or practical experience; or by taking CSC 225 and CSC 275.

(Conditional admission may be granted to students who will need to complete some or all of their prerequisite courses. Students may take their required prerequisite courses while they are waiting to submit the GMAT or GRE test scores.)

COST:

UIS has a special “e-tuition” rate that applies only to online courses:

1) All Illinois residents automatically qualify for the e-tuition rate. 2) Non-residents who have been admitted to an online degree program and who take only online classes also qualify.

Fully online. No on-campus meetings are required, but students may be required to arrange for a University Center proctor for exams.

TRANSFER HOURS POLICY: With MIS program committee approval, up to 12 sh of graduate level work earned within the past 3 years with a B or better.

required Courses: The MIS curriculum is designed: 1)   to provide students with the framework and methodology necessary to analyze, design, implement, and manage complex computer and tele-com based information systems; 2)   to demonstrate the principles necessary for understanding basic computer and communication hardware and software systems and packages to ensure the data quality, transmission, processing, and storage necessary to facilitate organizational decision-making and general operations; and 3)   to provide high-level competencies in applying systems analysis and design strategies and techniques in marketplace environments, and government and not-for-profit agencies.
