Description

Nancy Miller Livingston Stratford flew 50 different aircraft in World War II and went on to accumulate some 8,500 hours. At age 23, she was one of the first American women to become a ferry pilot for the British Air Transport Auxiliary. After WWII, Nancy earned her seaplane and helicopter wings, and owned Livingston Helicopters in Alaska. She was the second licensed woman commercial helicopter pilot in the United States.

Scholarship Criteria

Applicant must be female; reside in San Diego County; have a current student medical for PPL award; and a passing score on written test OR completed a solo flight. Funds may be used to help fund Private Pilot training. There is a 90-day limit to apply funds towards training.

National Aviation Academy’s Charles E. Taylor Scholarship, named for the first aviation mechanic, has been established to recognize and encourage students who wish to pursue careers in aviation maintenance, as well as promote the future of aviation and, more specifically, highly-trained airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanics.

Scholarship Criteria

Must have earned your high school diploma or GED in the Fall 2021 or Spring 2022 to apply. Must reside in, or have graduated from, a high school in Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, Hernando, Manatee, or Sarasota County in Florida, or Middlesex, Worcester, Essex, or Bristol County in Massachusetts. Must have an overall 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) or GED test score of 660 or greater.

Description

The Northwest Section Scholarship fund was created in 2013, from funds that the Section held in investment accounts. The scholarship is awarded annually for $1,000. Examples are flight review, emergency maneuver training, ground school, components of student pilot training, floatplane rating, instrument proficiency check, or tailwheel instruction. Scholarship monies can be applied toward aviation expenses greater than $1,000, such as an additional rating or course of study, if the applicant clearly states there are sufficient funds from other sources to complete her training.

Scholarship Criteria

Any female pilot or female student pilot who has been a continuous member of the NY-NJ Section and who is training in NY or NJ is eligible to apply for the NY-NJ Section Scholarship. Apply by completing the scholarship application form and including all the required documentation; submit a personal essay; and submit a letter of recommendation to your Chapter Chair.

This new program builds upon more than 30 years of support that Pratt & Whitney, and parent company Raytheon Technologies, have invested in diversity programs at UConn; including the decades-long BRIDGE program: a five-week summer residential program designed to help women and underrepresented minorities entering their freshman year at UConn Engineering. The Scholars Program, a scholarship designed for underrepresented minorities, will provideup to five students with $10,000 per year for four years; a summer internship opportunity at Pratt & Whitney after their sophomore year; a senior design project sponsored by Pratt & Whitney during their senior year; and professional development and mentorship opportunities.

The Colorado Pilots Association (CPA) may grant a flight training scholarship to one or more Colorado residents each year aged 16 - 22. The CPA recognizes an interest in learning to fly among our younger population is essential to the health and growth of the pilot group within the state.

Scholarship Criteria

This scholarship will be awarded to a Colorado resident between the ages of 16 and 22, pursuing a Private Pilot certificate at a recognized Colorado FAR Part 61/141 flight school. Applicants must have soloed to be eligible. A letter of recommendation from both the CFI, and flight school; to include a statement of enrollment in a formal course leading to a Private Pilot certificate, and achievement of solo flight is required.

Supported by a grant from the Ray Foundation, Inc. The program will provide up to ten scholarships initially to students. The scholarship will be awarded in two parts; the first phase will fund the student up through their first solo flight, and the balance will be awarded once the solo and FAA written exam have been successfully completed. The student can then complete the requirements and final FAA check-ride to achieve their Private Pilot’s License.

Scholarship Criteria

Applicants must be 16 to 22 years old; located in the Reno, Sparks, Carson City, or Fallon, Nevada areas; be a U.S. Citizen; read, write, and speak English; be able to obtain a third class medical; have a 2.75 or higher GPA; and have had a successful discovery flight of at least 30 minutes in a general aviation aircraft. Applicants who have passed the private pilot written exam will be given priority. The deadline to submit your application is January 31. Applicants who are being considered for the scholarship will be contacted for an interview before February 15. Winners will be contacted by March 15.

About the STIHL National Championship Air Races

The STIHL National Championship Air Races are held every September just north of Reno by the Reno Air Racing Association, a 501(c) (3). The event has become an institution for Northern Nevada and aviation enthusiasts from around the world with seven racing classes, a large display of static aircraft and several military and civilian flight demonstrations. Independent economic impact studies show that the event generates as much as $100 million annually for the local economy.
