This program was made possible by a bequest from Mrs. Elizabeth L. Lindsay, widow of Lieutenant Colonel John Lindsay, a career Air Force officer stationed at Craig AFB in Selma, Alabama. The scholarship is in memory of their children John C. and Blanche Lee Lindsay who also passed away before Lt Col and Mrs. Lindsay. The scholarship was established for children of members of the United States Air Force who are pursuing a college degree.
A minimum of one scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded annually. Additional scholarships may be considered and awarded, funds permitting. Applicants who are awarded a scholarship are not eligible for a second award.
Scholarship Criteria
Parent or legal guardian of the applicant must be Active Duty, veteran, or retired service members, reservists, or National Guard members of the United States Air Force. Applicant must: Be pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university; Provide a Statement of Purpose describing how the scholarship will assist in meeting their educational goals; Provide the most current transcript or, if not yet enrolled, proof of acceptance into an accredited college or university; Provide one letter of recommendation from a teacher, professor, counselor, or work/volunteer supervisor. Priority is given to applicants who: a) have at least one parent/guardian who is an AFA member; and b) are majoring in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field.

This scholarship is made possible by a bequest from the estate of Lt Col Romeo and Josephine Bass Ferretti and was established for minor dependents of active duty or retired Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, and Space Force enlisted Airmen and Guardians. It is for students pursuing an Undergraduate Degree in the area of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM). The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has graduated from high school in 2022, and who is entering their first year at an accredited university. Once the recipient is selected, the Air Force Association will notify them with a congratulatory email. The recipient’s college or university will receive the check, which can be used for any education related expense.

A completed application, to include all supporting materials, submitted through the online application system. An essay no greater than 600 words (approx. two pages typed and double spaced) describing your academic achievements and goals. Additionally, state how this scholarship will help you achieve those goals. One letter of recommendation, this letter may be written by a teacher, a supervisor or the director of an organization in which you participate. It must be signed. A copy of your official, high school transcript. Proof of acceptance into an accredited college/university indicating your intended major which must be in one of the STEM fields of study (science, technology, engineering or math). Scholarship Criteria
The applicant must be a spouse of Air Force Active Duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, Space Force, or Department of the Air Force Civilian employee to be eligible. Spouses who are themselves Air or Space Force personnel, or in ROTC, are not eligible. A copy of your most recent official transcript verifying your minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher. The transcript must have your name on it and show that you are enrolled for the minimum number of hours (6 credit hours for undergraduate study and 3 credit hours for graduate study). You must be in a degree program. Certification programs are not eligible. If you are not currently enrolled, then in addition to an official, original transcript, include a letter from your college or university that confirms your intent to carry the required hours next semester. To be eligible, applicants must hold a student pilot certificate, have been an official Student Pilot Member of the Ninety-Nines one month prior to the application deadlines (each March and September), and show financial need. The financial awards for the milestones are as follows: Knowledge Test - $500, First Solo - $2500, Long Solo Cross Country -$2000, and Earning Certificate - $1000.

Description
James, a 16,000-hour helicopter and fixed-wing pilot, started his aviation career in the U.S Army. He was a decorated military veteran with a Purple Heart, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and multiple air medals for his combat duty. In his civilian career, he flew offshore transport, search and rescue, and air ambulance. He was an advanced flight instructor, Designated Pilot Examiner, and also served as HAI’s Chairman of the Board of Directors. James was an advocate for aviation safety, a teacher, a mentor and avid supporter of the Whirly-Girls.
Scholarship Criteria
The applicant must be a helicopter pilot with at least a Private Certificate/License. She must be a member in good standing at the time of application submission, award of scholarship, and during scholarship training, she must be an active member, current on their annual dues.
