Università del Piemonte Orientale
UPO (University of Piemonte Orientale), was founded as a State University in 1998. It is a young, competitive open-campus, the only university in the region of Eastern Piedmont. open-campus means widespread territoriality, plurality, diversity: a distinctive feature of UPO in the Italian higher education system. UPO open-campus structure embracing the cities of Alessandria, Novara and Vercelli, gives an identity to this territory, which is an excellent site for pioneering companies and networking organisations. UPO is the primary platform of social mobility; more than 70% of its graduates come from families where a higher degree is earned for the first time by one of its members. UPO allows families to meet the challenges of modern times and to prepare their children to face the globalized world. Some 15,500 students, 400 professors and researchers, 400 employees are the figures of UPO, whose teaching activities and scientific research almost cover the full range of knowledge.
