WHAT HAPPENS ON RESULTS DAY?
“I’VE GOT THE GRADES I NEED”
Congratulations! All those hours of hard study have paid off. Here’s what happens next:
Step 1
• If you applied through UCAS, your confirmed offer will appear on your UCAS Hub at www.ucas.com. Log in to check your place.
• If you applied to us directly, log in to your portal to check for any updates. If you are still showing as Conditional it may be that we are still waiting for your results, so if you have them, please email them to: admissions@southwales.ac.uk.
• Please contact us if you are unsure why you are still showing as Conditional and we can check your record and let you know.
Step 2
• Once your place is confirmed, we'll send you instructions on how to enrol and prepare for the start of term, so make sure to check your emails and add us to your safe senders list. There’s more information on page 9.
Step 3
• The coming weeks are an opportunity to get ready to start studying at USW. Turn to page 10 to check you’ve got everything covered.
• If you’re still unsure after checking all of the above, give us a call on 01443 65 44 00.

The build-up can be a nerve-wracking time but there are a few things you can do to make sure you are prepared for the big day.
YOUR RESEARCH
Whether you end up getting the grades you were hoping for, or things don’t go how you’d hoped, the process of getting into university is much less stressful if you have done your research and are prepared for all eventualities.
SPEAK TO PEOPLE
Don’t keep your concerns and feelings bottled up. Speak to your parents/carers, friends and peers about what’s running through your mind. If you have any doubts or uncertainties, call the experts! Our Admissions Team is on hand to help you on 01443 65 44 00.

WHAT HAPPENS IF
“I NARROWLY MISSED OUT ON MY GRADES?”
Don't worry, we can help you with your next steps. If you applied through UCAS, log in to your UCAS Hub to see if we’ve confirmed your offer or made you an alternative one.
If you applied directly, contact the Admissions Team on admissions@southwales.ac.uk
If you’re still concerned, give us a call on 01443 65 44 00.
“I DON’T HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE OFFER?”
Our alternative offers are usually for a course in a similar subject and are designed to help you get into university if you were unsuccessful in securing a place on your first-choice course.
We consider each applicant on an individual basis, considering interests, qualifications and any relevant work experience.
If we haven’t made you an alternative offer, visit www.southwales.ac.uk/clearing to view our available courses and their entry criteria. If you find a course that interests you, call us on 01443 65 44 00 once lines open at 8am on Results Day.
If you’re worried you’ve just missed out on the entry criteria for a specific course, it’s best to still call and discuss your options with us.
“I CHANGED MY MIND?”
Don’t go it alone! If you have changed your mind about the course you want to study, it’s best to get in touch so we can talk through your options and make sure you enrol on the course that’s right for you. Call us on 01443 65 44 00
“
I CAN’T GET ON A DEGREE PROGRAMME?”
If you can’t get a place on a degree course, there are other qualifications available at USW. You might qualify for an honours degree with an integrated foundation year. If you successfully complete a foundation year, you’ll progress to Year 1 of the degree and could graduate after four years of full-time study.
For more information, visit southwales.ac.uk/clearing/foundation-year.

CLEARING

WHAT IS CLEARING?
Clearing matches applicants to university places that are yet to be filled. It runs from 5 July up until the start of the academic year and is available to anyone who doesn’t hold any offers.

HOW TO APPLY
You can apply for a course through Clearing provided you meet the entry criteria from current or previous qualifications. To apply, call our Admissions Team with:
• Your UCAS applicant ID number (if applicable)
• List of your qualifications and grades (most courses can offer an instant decision)
• The course you're interested in, or if you’re not sure, the subject area you’d like to explore.
Some courses may require an interview, and if so, we will inform you and schedule it at a time to suit you.
We will usually send your offer while we are on the phone to you. After you respond to our offer, either by referring your UCAS application or completing our late application form, we will verify your details and confirm your place. We will usually do this while we’re on the phone to you.
CLEARING EVENTS
Over Clearing we’re holding a series of events on campus, so you can chat with academic staff and advisers about your options. We can answer any new queries or support you with any concerns you may have.
It's also a great way to find out about accommodation, student support, student finance, careers, foundation year degrees and an opportunity to chat to current students.
