Associationism, Third Sector, gift and altruistic behaviour: historical, ethical and legal

Affiliated Company: AVIS Sede nazionale

Reference Professor: Prof. Corrado Del Bò, University of Bergamo

The Third Sector, associations, and volunteering have always been a driving force in republican Italy, and Avis is fully part of this history.

The doctoral scholarship aims to support research that investigates the historical and theoretical profiles of this story, with a view that also allows for a deeper exploration of the themes of altruism and giving (money, parts of oneself, time) as qualifying moments of social coexistence and civic solidarity, along with their related ethical and legal implications. All this within the framework of horizontal subsidiarity as provided by the republican Constitution and the private production of public goods (such as in healthcare).

Conducting part of the research activity at Avis will also allow access to Avis archives and thus focus, from a historical and theoretical perspective, on a specific case and area of volunteering, within the horizon of Third Sector reform, the increasing demands for professionalization, and the risks of bureaucratization of activities.
