• One of the highest scholarships in Italy (€1,500 net per month, with a 50% scholarship increase for stays abroad and a research budget quantified in at least 10% of the scholarship)

02 Economic context

• Employment rate among the highest in Italy. The unemployment rate is only 3.4%, less than half the national average and among the lowest in Lombardy. This figure is true for both the male and female population and is even more significant when considering young people between 25 and 34 years old.

• Territory with a high industrial vocation by added value (39.2%), more than 10 percentage points above the national, Lombardy and European average.

• From 2008 to 2021, 1655 patents were filed, 9.3% of Lombardy.

• The most competitive sectors are mechanics, rubber-plastics, textiles, wood and paper.

• Fifth-largest Italian province by export, with more than 20 billion euros in 2022.

• Companies with a strong international presence: 388 manufacturing companies and their holding companies control (with a share of more than 25 percent) 1,564 foreign units in 99 countries including the U.S., France, China, Germany, Spain, Romania, Brazil, UK, Russia, India and Mexico.

03 Quality of life

• Bergamo has its roots in Roman times, is characterized by a human-scale urban setting, and is famous for its Upper Town and Lower Town.

• Easy to reach: the Il Caravaggio di Bergamo - Orio al Serio airport, just 5 km from the city center, is Italy’s third busiest airport and offers more than 100 destinations in Europe and around the world.

• The public transport system is efficient, the network of bike paths is constantly expanding, and citizen services are extensive.

• It boasts a UNESCO heritage site: the Venetian walls of Bergamo Alta.

• The geography of the area makes it possible to reach in a short time tourist locations characterized by a significant natural, scenic, artistic-cultural and eno-gastronomic heritage, such as the Lombardy lakes, the Orobic Pre-Alps with its valleys and ski resorts, and cities of art.
