Join the Office of International Programs (OIP) for an event that is back by popular demand! The UNC Charlotte campus community is invited to learn how to write their name in a different language. Although Latin is the world’s predominant writing system, hundreds of scripts are used across the globe. UNC Charlotte’s international students hail from over 100 countries, and several of our international student polyglots will be volunteering their time to transcribe your name. As a bonus, OIP is excited to offer keepsake pins with your name written on it.

This celebration and awards presentation is a way of recognizing and thanking our engaged campus partners. Parasite Movie Screening

Join the Study Abroad Ambassadors for a screening of the 2019 film “Parasite”, which among its numerous accolades, won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards, becoming the first non-English-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. It also won an additional three Oscars, including the Best International Feature Film.

This is an opportunity for visiting scholars and international faculty members to gather together, share experiences, and make connections. Coffee, tea, and pastries to be provided by the ISSO. Drop-in anytime between 8:30-10am.

English Language Training Institute Cultural Showcase

Student Union 200 | 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

This is the third year of offering the Cultural Showcase. It provides the ELTI students a valuable opportunity to practice their English while showcasing their cultures, and in return, the UNC Charlotte community learns more about the world we share. As stated on the IEW website: “International education is all about expanding horizons, making connections, and establishing mutual understanding between people in the United States and other countries.” The Showcase aims to do exactly that.

Heart:

A Concert of Multicultural Music presented by The Charlotteans, UNC Charlotte Women’s Chorus

Atkins Library Halton Room | 2:30 P.M. - 3:30 P.M.

The Women’s Chorus focuses on music from around the globe each semester in conjunction with our GNL with Tohoku University. This semester we are sharing this repertoire beyond the music building by performing in Atkins Library -- Halton Reading Room. Repertoire includes compositions representing Botswana, Japan, France, Canada, Macedonia, Mexico, Finland, Israel, India, and the United States. Musical styles represent different cultures, including traditional folk songs, raga jog, and calypso.

The Future of International Education: Virtualizing the World

Student Union 262 | 2:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M.

A renowned scholar and award-winning author, Dr. Longinović explores language and cultural transformation in a rapidly globalizing world. His upcoming talk, “The Future of International Education: Virtualizing the World,” will examine how technology, AI, and digital learning are reshaping cross-cultural exchange, redefining global citizenship, and expanding access to education beyond borders.

TedX Craver Road Countdown

Student Union 340 Ballroom ABC | 3:00 P.M. – 4:30 P.M.

The TedXCraverRoad Countdown examines the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and discusses how to raise awareness and take action on the SDGs. The TedXCraverRoad Countdown Circles aligns with and is relevant to International Education Week (IEW) as it highlights the local and global efforts in addressing and taking action on issues of sustainability. The TedXCraverRoad Countdown Circles also connects the larger goal of IEW, which is to educate and connect our UNC Charlotte campus to global issues in our University community.

Crossing Borders, Crossing Plates: Mostly Martha, an Italian Cuisine Cultural Experience

“Mostly Martha” is a 2001 film that exemplifies and explores Italian, German, Austrian and Swiss Cultural intersections: it is a journey that introduces to cultural connections and differences characterizing c ontemporary Europe.

This symposium is the inaugural event sponsored by the Office of International Programs. It is an academic event that brings together students, faculty, and international education professionals to explore and share experiences, research, and practices related to highlighting the importance of global learning.

Traditional Chinese Painting Workshop

Friday 141 | 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.

The purpose of this event is to promote and share Chinese culture through the lens of traditional Chinese painting and watercolor art. By exploring the significance of various artistic styles and historical periods, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of how these works reflect China’s cultural heritage. This aligns with the goals of International Week by using a familiar medium—art—to bridge cultural understanding. The event offers those new to Chinese culture an accessible entry point for learning and connection, while providing those already familiar with it an opportunity to engage on a deeper level. It also introduces Chinese culture to students who might not typically encounter it, inspiring curiosity and cross-cultural appreciation.

Each year, Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars, honors its new faculty, staff and student members through an induction ceremony. Phi Beta Delta’s purpose is to recognize the experience in the areas of international education exchange and/or international scholarship. It also serves as a means for encouraging interdisciplinary interchange and serves as a catalyst for developing a network among faculty , students and staff involved. UNC Charlotte Education Abroad (EA) holds informational workshops each semester for UNC Charlotte faculty members who are interested in learning how to develop a short-term education abroad program. This session covers faculty and EA responsibilities, program considerations, program design (i.e. academics, itinerary, budgets), and the proposal process. We invite those interested in learning Japanese business culture and considering employment at a Japanese-related firm in the future. This year’s theme is “Navigating Globalization and Maintaining Cultural Identity.” Join us in exploring the unique intersections and dynamics within this vibrant field.

Dance Performance: Democracy in Plié

The Long Room (Plaza Midwood) | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

This program honors lived experience and embodied knowledge. In the world of an intellectual substitution by Artificial Intelligence, embodied knowledge systems need to be mined further to deepen connections, both local and global. “Democracy in Plié” is one such event that will feature professionals from musical opera and traditional Indian styles. It is an interdisciplinary performance event where local artists will perform alongside those from New Jersey and Ohio.
