Studying abroad offers students academic, professional, and personal benefits. Students see their field of study from a new perspective, develop skills highly sought after by employers, and foster greater self-confidence.

Where Can You Go?

UNC Charlotte students can participate in study abroad programs in more than 75 locations around the globe.

Study Surroundings

Students return from studying abroad with a better understanding of their academic abilities and more in-depth knowledge of their field. Students also credit increased adaptability, problem solving, and communication skills to their time abroad.

Studying abroad can broaden one’s worldview and provide awareness of and respect for other cultures.

Study Your Surroundings

Studying abroad is a realistic opportunity for all UNC Charlotte students. Students of any major or minor are eligible. Courses taken abroad contribute to graduation requirements, ensuring participants graduate on time. Furthermore, speaking a foreign language is not a prerequisite to studying abroad. Courses are available in English in most destination countries.

To be eligible to study abroad, students are expected to be in good academic and disciplinary standing. Grade Point Average requirements vary per program, but are typically between 2.0-3.0 GPA. Students become eligible to study abroad the summer after freshman year. Transfer students need only establish a GPA at UNC Charlotte to qualify.

STUDYING ABROAD IS AFFORDABLE!

There are several costs to consider when studying abroad. Much like studying at UNC Charlotte, you will need to consider tuition, fees, housing, meals, transportation, personal expenses, etc. All of these expenses are part of study abroad. However, some programs allow students to pay UNC Charlotte tuition and fees, while other programs can lower the cost of living, making it even more affordable to study abroad!

Additionally, students who receive financial aid are eligible to apply their full award amount toward their study abroad experience. There are also many scholarships ranging from $500 to $20,000 available for students who wish to study abroad.
