Ejército mexicano decomisa ‘monstros’ a cárteles de las drogas REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ
CAMARGO, TAMAULIPAS – Elementos de infantería y de la fuerza aérea del Ejército Mexicano aseguraron un taller para vehículos blindados en Camargo, Tamaulipas. La Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (SEDENA) dijo que los oficiales habían decomisado varios vehículos en el lugar el 4 de junio. Los vehículos, conocidos como ‘monstros’ por sus dimensiones, fueron descubiertos en un taller de hojalatería ubicado a unos metros de la entrada a Camargo. Las autoridades dijeron que el taller había sido usado por una banda de narcotraficantes. Los soldados determinaron que el taller, también descrito como una bodega, era utilizado para transformar vehículos convencionales en vehículos blindados para ser utilizados por los cárteles de las drogas. El general Luis Ricardo Díaz Palacios, jefe de la 8ava. Zona Militar en Tamaulipas, dijo que “estos vehículos están construidos con placas de acero de una pulgada, que difícilmente proyectiles de pequeño calibre lo pueden penetras, solo con armamento antitanque es posible destruir este tipo de vehículos”. “Ustedes pueden observar las ventanillas, las mirillas que tienen los vehículos, nosotros consideramos que pueden estar fácilmente, entrar ahí hasta 20 personas armadas”, comentó el general. Los vehículos blindados incluyen aperturas especiales para armas, así como iluminación especial. En el lugar las autoridades decomisaron dos vehículos terminados y otros vehículos listos para ser modificados, entre ellos 23 tracto camiones, 3 trascabos, 2 remolques, 1 tolva, 1 camión, 7 plataformas y 1 tractor.
Oficiales de SEDENA reportaron que no se realizaron arrestos en el lugar, donde también decomisaron armas, dos granadas y docenas de cargadores para diferentes armas. De acuerdo a información del ejército, en el año 2011 las autoridades de Tamaulipas han decomisado 109 vehículos blindados, entre camionetas y vehículos compactos, que son utilizados por los cárteles de las drogas para pelear entre ellos o contra las autoridades federales y estatales. Camargo está ubicada al otro lado del Río Bravo de la ciudad de Rio Grande City, Texas. Esta zona ha sido un área de batalla entre el Cártel del Golfo y los Zetas.
Mexican Army seizes ‘monster’ armored vehicles to drug cartels UNA VOZ STAFF
CAMARGO, TAMAULIPAS – Mexican Army infantry and air force elements secured a body shop for armored cars in Camargo, Tamaulipas. The Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) said the officers seized several vehicles at the site on June 4. The vehicles, knows as ‘monsters’ by their dimensions, were discovered at a body shop located a few meters from the entrance to Camargo. Authorities said the shop had been used by a drug gang. Soldiers determined the body shop, also described as a warehouse, was being used to transform regular vehicles into armored vehicles to be used by drug cartels. General Luis Ricardo Diaz Palacios, head of the 8th military zone in Tamaulipas, said that “these vehicles were built with steel plates one inch thick, which are hard to penetrate by small-caliber bullets. Only with antitank weapons can these vehicles be destroyed.”

DE MÉXICO – La oficina de la Procuraduría General de la República anunció que hasta ahora se han localizado 47 fosas clandestinas en San Fernando, Tamaulipas, y 21 personas han sido arrestadas en relación con estas muertes. Durante una reunión con representantes de los medios de comunicación, la procuradora Marisela Morales Ibáñez dijo que hasta ahora se han emitido 85 órdenes de aprehensión, 21 personas han sido arrestadas y el número de cuerpos encontrados ha aumentado de 183 a 193. Ella mencionó que de los 193 cuerpos 12 han sido entregados a sus familiares para ser enterrados, después de ser identificados por medio de pruebas forenses, incluyendo perfiles genéticos, dictámenes de odontología, antropología y criminalística de campo. Morales también mencionó que se han emitido 32 órdenes de aprehensión en relación con el homicidio del agente estadounidense Jaime Jorge Zapata, y actualmente se han arrestado a 24 personas.

The modified vehicles include special slots for guns and special lighting. At the site authorities seized two finished vehicles and several other vehicles were ready to be armored, including 23 wheelers, three bulldozers, two trailers, one hopper, one truck, seven platforms and one tractor. SEDENA officials reported that nobody was arrested at the site, where they also seized for weapons, two grenades and dozens of charges for different weapons. According to information from the army, in 2011 authorities in Tamaulipas have seized 109 armored vehicles, among them trucks and compact vehicles, which are used by drug cartels in fights against each other and against federal and state authorities. Camargo is located across the Rio Grande River from Rio Grande City, Texas and has been a battleground between the Gulf Cartel and the Zetas.
More body pits found in Tamaulipas, bringing the death toll to 193 UNA VOZ STAFF MEXICO CITY – The Mexican Attorney General’s Office informed that to date 47 body pits have been found in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, and 21 people have been sent to jail. During a meeting with media representatives Marisela Morales Ibañez, head of the Attorney General’s Office, said that to date they have issued 85 arrest warrants, 21 people have been arrested and the number of bodies found has increased from 183 to 193. He said that 12 bodies have been released to relatives for burial, after being identified through forensic tests including genetic profiles, dental records, anthropological and field tests. Morales also mentioned that 32 arrest warrants have been issued in relation to the homicide of U.S. agent Jaime Jorge Zapata, and so far 24 people have been taken into custody.

¿Qué pasa si no voy a una audiencia de inmigración? Por BEATRIZ MENDOZA UV: ¿Qué pasa si alguien no asiste a una audiencia programada ante un juez de inmigración? DR: Cuando a usted le programan una audiencia, cualquier retraso en su presentación en una audiencia, ya sea del calendario general o individual, puede resultar en que a usted le ordenen ser deportado in absentia. En otras palabras, la audiencia continúa sin importar que usted esté en la audiencia o no. UV: ¿Hay algo que alguien pueda hacer para evitar que el juez ordene que lo deporten, aún si no está en la audiencia? DR: Si usted es representado por un abogado, y el abogado está en la audiencia, el abogado por supuesto que va a hacer una moción para que su caso sea continuado hasta que usted pueda presentarse. El juez puede o no otorgarle la moción. Si el juez no le otorga esa moción, la audiencia continúa. Si le juez le otorga la moción, su audiencia es programada para otro día y otra hora. Cuando una persona se representa a sí misma en la corte de inmigración, pro se, no hay nadie en la corte que pueda hacer una moción a nombre suyo para que el caso sea continuado, si usted no puede asistir. DR: El término circunstancias excepcionales se refiere a circunstancias más allá del control del extranjero, tales como agresión física o crueldad extrema contra el extranjero o contra alguno de sus hijos o sus padres; una grave enfermedad del extranjero o sus hijos o su cónyuge o sus padres, o la muerte de un hijo cónyuge o padre del extranjero. Pero no incluye circunstancias de menor gravedad. UV: ¿Existe un tiempo límite para someter la moción y pedir que se reabra el caso y se rescinda la orden in absentia? DR: Si su moción para reabrir y rescindir la oren in absentia se basa en que usted no se presentó por circunstancias extraordinarias, esta moción debe ser sometida a más tardar 180 días después de que se emitió la orden in absentia. Si la moción para reabrir y rescindir una orden in absentia está basada en un alegato de que el extranjero no recibió notificación adecuada de la audiencia o de que el extranjero estaba bajo custodia federal o estatal y el no presentarse estuvo fuera de su control, la moción puede hacerse en cualquier momento. UV: ¿Qué pasa cuando alguien somete una moción para reabrir y rescindir una orden de deportación in absentia? DR: Si a usted le han emitido una orden de deportación de los Estados Unidos y usted somete una moción para reabrir el caso, la deportación del extranjero se detiene automáticamente, en espera de la disposición del juez de inmigración en referencia a la moción para reabrir y rescindir una orden de deportación in absentia. What happens if I don’t attend an immigration hearing? By BEATRIZ MENDOZA
UV: What happens if someone does not attend a scheduled immigration court hearing? DR: When you are scheduled for a hearing, any delay in your appearance at a master calendar or individual calendar hearing may result in you being ordered removed in absentia. In other words, the hearing goes on regardless if you are at the hearing or not. UV: Is there anything that person can do to prevent the judge from ordering him removed, even though he or she is not at the hearing? DR: If you are represented by an attorney who is at the hearing, the attorney will, of course, make a motion to continue your case for your appearance. The judge may or may not grant that motion. If the judge does not grant that motion, the hearing continues. If the judge does grant that motion, your hearing is set for a future time and date. When a person is represented by themselves in immigration court, pro se, there is nobody at the court on your behalf to make a motion to continue your case, in case you are unable to attend. Therefore, if you are ordered removed in absentia from the United States, you may file a motion to reopen your case and to rescind an in absentia removal order.
UV: What does that motion do? DR: A motion to reopen requesting that an in absentia order be rescinded asks the immigration judge to consider the reasons why you did not appear at your scheduled hearing. A motion to reopen and rescind an in absentia order must demonstrate that the failure to appear was because of exceptional circumstances; the failure to appear was because the alien failed to receive proper notice; or the failure to appear was because the alien was in federal or state custody and the failure to appear was through no fault of the alien. UV: What qualifies as an “exceptional circumstance”? DR: The term exceptional circumstances refers to circumstances beyond the control of the alien, such as battery or extreme cruelty to the alien, or any child or parent of the alien; serious illness of the alien or serious or death of the child, spouse or parent of the alien. But not including less compelling circumstances. UV: Is there a time limit to file a motion to reopen and rescind the in absentia order of removal? DR: If your motion to reopen and rescind the in absentia order is based on your failure to appear because of exceptional circumstances, that motion must be filed within 180 days after the in absentia order.
If the motion to reopen and rescind an in absentia order is based on an allegation that the alien did not receive proper notice of the hearing, or that alien was in federal or state custody and the failure to appear was through no fault of the alien, that motion may be filed at any time. A person is permitted to file only one motion to reopen to rescind an in absentia order. UV: What happens when someone files a motion to reopen and rescind the in absentia order of removal? DR: If you have been ordered removed from the United States and you file a motion to reopen, the removal of the alien is automatically stayed pending disposition by the immigration judge of the motion to reopen and rescind an in absentia order in removal proceedings. UV: What happens if someone requests a motion for continuance at a hearing? DR: If you request, or your attorney requests, a motion for a continuance of any hearing, it should be made by written motion; oral motions to continue are discouraged. The motion should set forth, in detail, the reasons for the request and if appropriate, be supported by evidence. It should also include the date and time of the hearing as well as preferred dates that the party is available to reschedule the hearing.
However, parties should be mindful that immigration court retains discretion to schedule continued cases at dates that the court deems appropriate. UV: Are continuances always granted? DR: the immigration judge is not required to grant your motion to continue and if you fail to show for your hearing, in many occasions the immigration judge does not grant a motion for a continuance. Therefore it is very important that you show at the proper time for your master calendar or individual calendar hearings. Waubonsee celebra la gran apertura del Campus de Aurora
El lado este del nuevo campus del Colegio Comunitario Waubonsee en el centro de Aurora cuenta con un paseo por el río, junto con un área de juegos para el centro de cuidado infantil. Actualmente se están llevando a cabo clases de verano en el edificio de 132 mil pies cuadrados. The east side of Waubonsee Community College’s new downtown Aurora Campus features an upper riverwalk, along with the child care center’s playground. Summer classes are now underway at the 132,000-square-foot facility. REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ AURORA – El 3 de junio el Colegio Comunitario Waubonsee celebró la gran apertura de su nuevo campus en el centro de Aurora, en un evento que atrajo a más de mil personas. Además de visitas guiadas, los asistentes escucharon los discursos del alcalde de Aurora Tom Weisner y de varios oficiales de Waubonsee, quienes recalcaron cómo ahora los estudiantes pueden tener acceso a una educación completa en Aurora. “Waubonsee tiene una larga historia de proporcionar acceso a educación y entrenamiento para todos los miembros del a comunidad de Aurora en el corazón de la ciudad, y estoy entusiasmado sobre las nuevas oportunidades que estas instalaciones más amplias y modernas proporcionarán a nuestros estudiantes, empleadores y miembros del a comunidad”, dijo la presidenta de Waubonsee Dr. Christine Sobek. Deborah Lovingood, Vicepresidenta Ejecutiva de Asuntos Educativos y Oficial en Jefe de Aprendizaje en Waubonsee. No importa qué cursos tomen, los estudiantes aprenderán en un ambiente educativo con tecnología de punta, el cual cuenta con 52 salones de clase, incluyendo dos laboratorios de ciencias, ocho salones de computadoras y otros espacios de instrucción especializada. Otros espacios en este edificio incluyen la biblioteca, una librería y un paseo a la orilla del río. Waubonsee Celebrates Aurora Campus Grand Opening UNA VOZ STAFF AURORA – On June 3, Waubonsee Community College celebrated the grand opening of its new downtown Aurora Campus at an event that drew more than 1,000 people. In addition to building tours, attendees heard remarks from Aurora Mayor Thomas Weisner and several Waubonsee officials highlighting how students can now access a complete education all in Aurora. “Waubonsee has a long history of providing access to education and training for all members of the Aurora community in the heart of downtown, and I am excited about the new opportunities this expanded, state-of-the-art facility will provide for our students, employers, and community members,” said Waubonsee President Dr. Christine Sobek. Located on the west bank of the Fox River at 18 S. River St., the 132,000-square-foot campus is comprehensive, meaning that students can start and finish an associate degree entirely at the campus. The transfer-oriented Associate in Arts and Associate in Science Degrees will be offered, along with full career-oriented degrees and certificates in such high-demand fields as health care interpreting, health information technology, sign language interpreting and certified nurse assistant (CNA). Students can also take developmental education and community education classes at the campus, or choose to enroll in workforce development and adult education programs. “This new campus will serve students with diverse educational, training and personal development goals, all in Aurora,” said Dr. Deborah Lovingood, Waubonsee’s Executive Vice President of Educational Affairs/Chief Learning Officer. No matter what courses they take, students will learn in a state-of-the-art educational environment with 52 classrooms, including two science labs, eight computer classrooms and other specialized instructional spaces. Other highlights of the $50 million project include a library, bookstore, and an upper River Walk. A full complement of student services are also being offered at the site, including Admissions, Bursar Office, Counseling, Financial Aid and Registration. The building’s first classes began June 6. The former 88,000-square-foot Aurora Campus, which opened in 1986 and was housed in two historic buildings on Stolp Island, permanently closed its doors at the end of May. It is currently for sale, and more information can be found at 5eastgalena.com. The new Aurora Campus is part of Waubonsee’s 2020 College Master Plan. This plan provides the roadmap for Waubonsee to meet the area’s growing demand for education. Other projects have included the construction of four new buildings at the Sugar Grove Campus and the construction of a new campus in Plano that opened this past spring. Cordogan, Clark & Associates designed the new Aurora Campus, JJR is the project’s landscape architect, and Turner Construction provided construction management.

AURORA – Las lluvias de primavera han creado las condiciones ideales para que los mosquitos se reproduzcan y estén atacando en las próximas semanas, pero la ciudad de Aurora ha tomado medidas amigables con el medio ambiente para combatirlos. La División de Mantenimiento de Calles de la ciudad va a colocar alrededor de 12 mil tabletas Natular en las alcantarillas y otras fuentes de agua estancada y que duran hasta 180 días. Estas tabletas, que son un producto orgánico certificado y que son consumidas por las larvas de los mosquitos, van a prevenir que las larvas se conviertan en mosquitos adultos. Si el número de mosquitos hembra suben de 30 en una trampa, la división de mantenimiento de calles va a rociar insecticida en el área para reducir la población de mosquitos. Los mosquitos hembra son los que muerden. El Departamento de Salud Pública de Illinois ha mencionado que los mosquitos de aguas estancadas en general aparecen dos semanas después de lluvias fuertes e inundaciones. Mientras que los mosquitos de inundaciones son una molestia, éstos rara vez portan el Virus del Nilo Occidental. Sin embargo, una vez que las inundaciones bajan y queda agua estancada en alcantarillas y otros lugares, los mosquitos caseros comienzan a aparecer y estos son los portadores del Virus del Nilo Occidental.

However, the City of Aurora has taken earth-friendly measures to combat them. The Streets Maintenance Department is going to place about 12,000 Natular tablets in catch basins and other large sources of standing water. The tablets last up to 180 days. These tables, which are a certified organic product, are consumed by mosquito larvae and will prevent larvae from becoming adult mosquitoes. If the number of female mosquitoes is over 30 in a trap, the streets division will spray insecticide in the area to reduce the mosquito population. Female mosquitoes are the ones that bite. The Illinois Department of Public Health has said that floodwater mosquitoes generally appear two weeks after heavy rains and flooding. While the floodwater mosquitoes are a nuisance, they don’t usually carry the West Nile Virus. However, once floodwaters recede and water remains stagnant in catch basins and other places, house mosquitoes usually appear and they are the ones generally infected with the West Nile Virus.

UNA VOZ STAFF AURORA – Health officials informed that a bat found outside Oak Park Elementary School in Aurora had rabies. Nobody was hurt. The bat was found by a custodian on May 29, before classes started. The rabies results were announced June 3. The custodian trapped the bat while Animal Control officers arrived at the scene. This is the first case of rabid bats reported in Kane County this year.

Matan a hombre de West Chicago en Aurora REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ AURORA – La Policía de Aurora está investigando la muerte a tiros de un hombre de 25 años de West Chicago. El hombre murió la madrugada del 8 de junio en el este de Aurora. De acuerdo a la investigación preliminar, la víctima, identificada como Luis E. Salinas de la cuadra 1200 de Kings Cross Drive en West Chicago, se encontraba sentado en el asiento trasero de un auto que estaba estacionado en dirección sura en la cuadra 0-99 de Rose Street alrededor de la 1 a.m. En el vehículo también se encontraban dos jovencitas menores de edad, una de 17 años y otra de 16, que conocían a Salinas y son residentes de Aurora. Un vehículo de color obscuro se acercó a los tres. En este vehículo viajaban varios sujetos en dirección norte por Rose Street. El vehículo se detuvo por un periodo corto de tiempo y sus ocupantes trataron de sacar conversación cuando uno de ellos hizo múltiples disparos
al asiento trasero del vehículo, haciendo blanco varias veces en Salinas. El vehículo continuó en dirección norte por Rose Street hasta Galena Blvd., donde dio vuelta en dirección este. West Chicago man killed in Aurora UNA VOZ STAFF
AURORA – Aurora Police are investigating the shooting death of a 25 year old West Chicago man that occurred early June 8 on the city’s near east side. According to the preliminary investigation, the victim, Luis E. Salinas, of the 1200 block of Kings Cross Drive, was sitting in the rear seat of a car that was parked southbound on the street in the 0-99 block of Rose Street at about 1:00 a.m. The vehicle was also occupied by a to female teenagers, one was 17 years old and the other one 16 years old. Both of the teens are from Aurora and are acquaintances of the man. The three were approached by a dark colored vehicle that was occupied by several subjects and traveling northbound on Rose Street. The northbound vehicle stopped for a short amount of time and tried to engage the occupants of the other car in a conversation when one of the occupants fired multiple shots into the back seat of the other vehicle striking Salinas several times. The vehicle then continued northbound on Rose to eastbound Galena Boulevard. The females took off from the scene and called police from the area of Ohio and Benton Streets. DETROIT – While much has been said about the rivalry between the United States and Canada, the home team showed there is still a world of difference between both soccer teams. The U.S. defeated Canada 2-0 in the opening game of the C group of the 2011 Gold Cup June 7. Without playing their best, the U.S. team easily defeated its neighbor to the north at the Ford Field Stadium in Detroit. Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey scored the goals for the home team, which after one round is group leader with three points. The home team dominated during the initial part of the game and took advantage during the first 15 min with the help of Canadian goalie Lars Hirschfeld, who scored an auto goal. He compensated for his mistake by stopping several plays that prevented the U.S. team from advancing in the scoreboard during the first half. In the offensive, Canadians pushed with more will than soccer plays, and almost always through Dwayne De Rosario. The Red Bulls player had the only great play of the game for the Canadians during the first half when it shot a dangerous ball that was barely missed U.S. goalie Tim Howard’s net. Risking just the minimum, the U.S. scored the victory goal during the 62nd minute. Altidore took to the right and sent the ball to the center of the area that Juan Agudelo couldn’t get, but Dempsey got to the ball and scored. From there on Howard was the man of the game, protecting his net. First, he stretched in a magnificent way to send an Ali Gerba shot to corner shot. A little later, he showed his good reflexes by stopping a couple of shots from the Canadians. Now both teams are travelling to Tampa, where they will play in the second round of their group on June 11. U.S. will face Panama, while Canada will play against Guadaloupe.
