Arrasó Juany Garza con la votación REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ AURORA – La concejal del distrito 2 Juany Garza ha logrado la reelección para un tercer término en el concilio de la ciudad con un gran margen de votación. Garza fue reelegida con el 75 por ciento de los votos emitidos en estas elecciones. “Le doy las gracias a todos los que salieron a ejercer el derecho civil de votar”, dijo al concejal Garza después de conocer su victoria. “De esta manera, esas personas que votaron están tomando la iniciativa de elegir, para que podamos seguir adelante en este segundo distrito de la ciudad”. La participación ciudadana es algo muy importante para el buen funcionamiento de las entidades
gubernamentales y es una forma que tienen los concejales para saber qué está pasando en sus distritos. “Es importante que la gente votó, porque así tiene el derecho de exigir; el que no vota no tiene derecho de exigir” dijo la concejal Garza. Ahora que está confirmada para un tercer periodo en el concilio de la ciudad, la concejal Garza ha dicho que continuará con los programas que ha establecido desde que tomó posesión de su cargo. “Vamos a continuar con los programas que hemos estado haciendo cada año y saldremos adelante para tener la mejor calidad de vida que se pueda en el segundo distrito”, comentó. AURORA – Alderman Juany Garza was reelected to a third term in city council by a landslide. Garza was reelected with 75 percent of the votes cast in this election. “I am grateful to those who went out and fulfilled their civic duty of voting,” Garza said after learning
of her victory. “Those people who voted are taking the initiative to choose, so we can move forward in the city’s second district.” Citizen input is very important to keep the government working and this is a way aldermen have to know what is going on in their district, Garza said. “It’s important that people voted, because they have the right to
demand action; those who don’t vote don’t have the right to demand,” Garza said. Now that she will be representing the second ward for a third term, Garza has said she will continue working on the programs she established when she first took office. “We are going to continue with the programs we have had every year and will move forward to have

14 apuñalados en colegio comunitario de Texas REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ HOUSTON – Un estudiante de un colegio comunitario atacó a varios de sus compañeros a puñaladas, hiriendo a 14 de ellos, y las autoridades dicen que él había planeado el ataque por algún tiempo. Quick es un estudiante del colegio comunitario que recibió implantes cocleares cuando tenía siete años de edad y realizaba algún tipo de actividades en la biblioteca de este campus. Aparentemente una persona había enviado un correo electrónico a la oficina del alguacil indicando que Quick pudo haber hablado de sus planes en un chat room en línea, pero el alguacil no quiso dar más detalles para no entorpecer la investigación. 14 people stabbed at a Texas community college UNA VOZ STAFF
HOUSTON – A community college student stabbed several classmates, injuring 14 of them, and authorities say he may have planned this for quite some time. Sheriff Adrian Garcia said during a press conference that the man had fantasized about stabbing people since he was eight years old and had spent some time planning the attack. “It’s not clear just how long that might have been,” sheriff Garcia said. “The victims appear to be randomly selected.” The attacker was identified as Dylan Andrew Quick, 20. The
attack happened April 9th at the Cy-Fair campus of the Lone Star Community College System, located in Cypress, Texas, about 20 miles northwest of Houston. According to authorities, Quick faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and had a $100,000 bond set for each one of the counts. Twelve of the 14 people injured were taken to the hospital and two refused treatment. As of press time five of the people injured were still in the hospital in good condition, according to officials. Witnesses told investigators that Quick had been “running and stabbing
people,” apparently targeting the heads and necks of the victims. Garcia said Quick had given them a voluntary statement about the incident and was cooperating with the investigation. The weapon used in the attack could be described as a utility knife Garcia said. Parts of the knife were recovered from one of the victims and in the area where the attack took place, while the knife’s handle was found in the backpack carried by the suspect when he was arrested. Investigators said a similar knife was found in the backpack but it is not clear if it was used in the

attack or not. “We have evidence that showed us some of the attacks occurring,” Garcia said. “In this case, we had the kind of clear technology that allowed us to zero in, and know what actor we were looking for.” At first it was thought there were two assailants, but later on it was known that only one person was responsible. Apparently some students were able to stop the suspect from fleeing and kept him until authorities arrived. The Harris County Sheriff’s office issued a statement saying that “According to the statement the suspect voluntarily gave
investigators, he has had fantasies of stabbing people to death since he was in elementary school. He also indicated that he has been planning this incident for some time.” Quick was a student at the community college. He was deaf and at seven received a cochlear implant and was involved in “library activities” at the campus. Apparently, according to Garcia, someone sent an e-mail to authorities saying that Quick may have talked about his plans on an online chat room, but declined to give more details citing the ongoing investigation. Classes resumed at the campus on April 10.

U.S. citizen marries an undocumented alien If your spouse legally entered the United States, even if it was many years ago, and you can prove that legal entry, your spouse at the same time you submit the paperwork for a family petition, can apply for an adjustment of status and receive his permanent residency green card. This is commonly referred to as a “one stop application.” Your spouse has to provide a medical examination by a civil surgeon approved by the immigration service. You have to provide an affidavit of support documentation showing you can financially support your spouse. Operativo de policía de Aurora se enfoca en choferes distraídos REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ AURORA – Los automovilistas tal vez no vieron a los oficiales de policía de Aurora que estuvieron muy activos en el extremo este de la ciudad la tarde del 3 de abril, a pesar de que sus esfuerzos tuvieron como resultado la emisión de 44 multas en un periodo de cuatro horas. Usando como base estadísticas que mostraban que el 69 por ciento de los choques en esa área de Aurora en los primeros dos meses de 2013 habían sido choques por detrás, un gran número de oficiales cambiaron las patrullas por vehículos encubiertos y salieron a la caza de automovilistas distraídos. Entre las 2 y las 6 p.m. los choferes de 57 vehículos que mostraban señales de manejar distraídos
y que fueron observados por los oficiales fueron detenidos. Los miércoles entre las 2 y las 6 p.m. es el horario en el que la Policía de Aurora ha visto que se han dado la mayor cantidad de accidentes en esta zona. De las 44 multas emitidas 21 fueron por enviar textos, ocho por automovilistas sin seguro, y cinco por exceso de velocidad.
Las multas también se hicieron por registros expirados, violaciones de licencias de manejo, por desobedecer aparatos de control de tráfico, ventanas polarizadas y otras causas. Los oficiales también ubicaron a un automovilista buscado por acusaciones menores. “EL manejar distraído es una actividad iniciada por el conductor, por lo tanto, es 100 por ciento evitable”, dijo el teniente Inda. “Ya sea que estén hablando por teléfono o enviando un mensaje de texto, comiendo, poniéndose maquillaje o soñando despiertos, estos son tipos de comportamiento que distraen la atención del chofer del camino y lleva a choques. Aurora police operation targets distracted drivers UNA VOZ STAFF
AURORA – Motorists may not have seen the Aurora Police officers out in force on the Far East side last Wednesday afternoon, April 3, even though their efforts resulted in 44 citations being issued in a four hour period. Citing statistics that showed 69% of crashes in that area of Aurora were rear end collisions in the first two months of 2013, numerous officers stashed marked squad cars in favor of undercover vehicles and went on the hunt for distracted drivers. Between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., drivers of 57 vehicles who were displaying signs of distracted driving that
were observed by the officers were stopped. Those who were not ticketed received written warnings. “The high number of rear end collisions clearly indicates distracted driving,” said Area 3 Lieutenant Pete Inda. “Any activity that takes a driver’s eyes off the road, their hands off the steering wheel, or their mind off of driving makes them a distracted driver--- and a distracted driver is a dangerous driver. We want the public to know that the Aurora Police take traffic enforcement seriously and we will continue to work vigilantly to reduce crashes in the City.” The operation took place on Eola Road
from Butterfield Road to Ogden Avenue. By patrolling in undercover vehicles, the officers were able to blend in with traffic and see motorists who were texting, speeding, and displaying other signs of being distracted. Once spotted, they radioed the offending vehicle information to marked patrol units which were also stationed in the area, and traffic stops were made. Wednesdays between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. is the timeframe that Aurora Police have seen the most accidents occur in that stretch of roadway. Of the 44 citations issued, 21 were for texting, eight for uninsured motorists, and five for speeding. Tickets were also written
for expired registrations, driver’s license violations, disobeying traffic control devices, tinted windows, and others. Officers also found one driver wanted on misdemeanor charges. “Distracted driving is driver-initiated so it is therefore, 100 percent preventable,” said Lt. Inda. “Whether it’s talking or texting on a cell phone; eating, applying makeup, or just plain daydreaming, these are the types of behaviors that take drivers’ attentions off the road and lead to crashes. We certainly hope that motorists will remember that their lives, and those of other drivers, require full attention when they are behind the wheel.”
Detectives honrados como empleados del mes por investigación de asesinato REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ AURORA – Tres investigadores de la policía de Aurora y su sargento han sido nombrados como empleados del mes de febrero, en reconocimiento por su labor en la investigación de un complicado asesinato. Tres personas fueron acusadas en este hecho. Detectives in murder investigation honored as employees of the month UNA VOZ STAFF
AURORA – Three Aurora Police Investigators and their Sergeant have been named February Co-Employees of the Month for their exhaustive work in a complicated murder investigation that led to charges against 3 men. Detectives Jeff Koenings, Len Casamassimo, and Guillermo Trujillo, along with Investigations Sgt. Matt Thomas were lauded for their efforts in the brutal murder of
18 year old Abigail Villalpando of Aurora. Villalpando had been reported missing by her family in the early morning hours of Feb. 1, and when her car was discovered torched about eight hours later, the four officers launched an investigation that led to two men with whom the victim visited the day before. After locating and questioning the men at their residence, it was clear to the investigators that the subjects’ stories were not adding up and they asked them to come to the police station for formal interviews to which the men
agreed. After further questioning the men eventually made incriminating statements. As the interview progressed the detectives were able to piece together details showing that one of the men allegedly murdered Abigail while the other man allegedly assisted in burning her body. They were also led to a third man who allegedly helped dispose of Abigail’s body which was located on Feb. 2 burned beyond recognition. Charges against the three suspects were lodged on Feb. 3. “When these officers began investigating

En un tercer robo, registrado en la cuadra 2800 de Berman Road,
el ladrón entró por la puerta de servicio que estaba sin seguro, pero no se robó nada. De acuerdo a la policía, ninguna de las puertas de servicio tenían cerraduras tipo “deadbolt” y no había ninguna luz encendida afuera de las puertas de servicio. La policía mencionó que en ninguno de estos tres incidentes el o los ladrones intentaron entrar a la casa.

Rash of garage burglaries in North Aurora UNA VOZ STAFF NORTH AURORA – North Aurora Police are alerting the public to a series of garage burglaries that occurred the night between April 4 and 5 at the Tanner Trails subdivision. In the three incidents the thief or thieves entered through the garage service door. Two of the cases were in the 500 block of Kelley Drive. In one of the incidents the burglar
forced his entry, opened the vehicles and took a handbag and a laptop. Nothing was taken in the other two burglaries. The other incident took place in the 2800 block of Berman Road. The doors in the other two homes were unlocked. Police said the thieves did not try to enter the homes. They also mentioned that the homes did not have deadbolts installed on the garage service doors.

Pleito entre policías y sospechoso en Elgin manda a 3 al hospital
REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ
ELGIN – Un pleito entre oficiales de policía y un hombre de 40 años de edad terminó con el sospechoso y dos de los oficiales en el hospital y cargos de felonía en contra del sospechoso. La policía dijo que el incidente comenzó alrededor de las 7:45 a.m. del 7 de abril, cuando un chofer de taxi llamó para reportar el robo de sus servicios. El chofer dijo que había recogido a un hombre en Hanover Park y lo había llevado a un edificio de apartamentos en la cuadra 400 de East Chicago Street en Elgin. El hombre entró al apartamento pero nunca salió a
pagarle al taxista por sus servicios, de acuerdo al chofer. Los oficiales encontraron al hombre dentro del apartamento y lo convencieron de pagarle al taxista. Sin embargo, sospecharon algo raro del nombre que él les había dado. Struggle between Elgin police and suspect sends 3 to hospital UNA VOZ STAFF ELGIN – A fight between Elgin Police officers and a 40-year-old man ended with the suspect and two officers in the hospital and felony charges against the suspect. Police said the incident started at about 7:45 a.m. April 7, when a taxi driver called to report theft of services. The driver told officers he had picked up a man in Hanover Park and had taken him to an apartment building in the 400 block of East Chicago Street in Elgin. The man entered the
apartment but never came out to pay the cab fare, according to the driver. Officers then found the man in the apartment and convinced him to pay the fare. However, they had suspicions about the name the man had given them. When the officers returned to the police station they found the man in a photo database and found out the man’s real name was Federico Solarzano, a resident of Glendale Heights who had four arrest warrants. Officers then returned to the Chicago Street apartment and told Solarzano, who was
allegedly naked when officers came back, that they knew who he was and were going to arrest him on the warrants. Then, according to the officers, the man put on some clothes and without warning attacked the officers, grabbing one of them by the waist and throwing him to the ground. A second officer used his taser gun but the shot missed the suspect, hitting another officer on the hand. The man then exited the apartment, but officers were able to tackle him. The man kept fighting them but was then subdued with a
taser gun. Solarzano was charged with felony aggravated battery and three counts of felony for resisting arrest and one misdemeanor for obstructing identification. He was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for breathing problems caused by the gas; he was treated and then taken to jail. According to police two officers received medical attention at a local hospital, one of them for puncture wounds caused by the taser gun and the other for hip and shoulder injuries.

Owner of landscaping company killed in fire UNA VOZ STAFF CARPENTERSVILLE – A fire at a landscaping company in downtown Carpentersville remains under investigation by authorities. The victim in this incident has been tentatively identified as one of the owners. The fire took place shortly before 5 p.m. April 5 at Trinity Landscape of Northern Illinois, located at 1050 Tamarac Lane. According to authorities the building roof caved in and firefighters worked through the night to prevent the fire from reigniting. In a brief press release the Fire Department said that the victim’s body had been found near a door of the burned building. This structure, according to Carpentersville Chief of Police Alan Popp, housed a variety of gardening materials and equipment. Popp said the victim is believed to be Kurt Cina, 44, of Sleepy Hollow. The Cina Family owns the landscaping business. The chief of police said that representatives from the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Kane County Coroner’s Office and an insurance company had been at the site on April 8 and more information about the fire was expected in the next few days. Meanwhile Popp declined to provide information on whether or not the victim had been alive when he was found and the cause of death. According to media reports, Cina was the father of six children. There is another building in the property, which houses an office and more storage space. This building was not damaged by the fire. Popp said the cause of the fire and the approximate value of the damage have not been determined.

According to a police report released April 4, two men, one of them carrying a handgun, kicked open the door to an apartment and robbed the four people who were inside. The incident took place at about 2:17 a.m. March 20,
in the 0-100 block of South Crystal Avenue in Elgin. A woman and her boyfriend told officers that they were naked in bed when the assailants entered their bedroom and demanded money. They said the intruders took $20 from the man’s pants and then one of them put the handgun to the woman’s head and then put his hand on her bare breast. Police said the door had been kicked so hard the wood had splintered, tearing a chain lock off the door frame and the deadbolt lock fell on the floor.

Rockford reelige a Morrissey para un tercer periodo REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ ROCKFORD – El alcalde independiente de Rockford Larry Morrissey fue reelecto para un tercer periodo con el 44 por ciento de los votos. En las elecciones del 9 de abril Morrissey se enfrentó al candidato demócrata Jim Hughes, quien obtuvo el 38 por ciento de los votos, y al candidato republicano Michael Kleen, quien obtuvo el 18 por ciento. ROCKFORD – The independent mayor of Rockford, Larry Morrissey, was reelected to a third period with 44 percent of the votes. In the April 9 elections Morrissey had two opponents, Democratic candidate Jim Hughes, who got 38 percent of the votes, and Republican Michael Kleen, who got 18 percent of the votes. Morrissey will work with new faces in city council during his third term. Seven of the 14 aldermen are new to their posts.
During his victory speech Morrissey spoke about reconciling the administration and the city labor unions. “I’m going to do everything I can to bring this community together,” Morrissey said. “I’m looking forward to reset and regroup with a new City Council and build a shared table, a shared vision and a shared ownership of the work we have to do to move the community forward.” Also, he said he was going to continue looking for excellence everywhere for everyone, something he has done since he first
took office in 2005. Now that he has secured a third term, he will continue working on several projects. It is believed that in this new term Morrissey will move forward with the new geographical policing strategy from the Rockford Police Department, in which officers are assigned to one of three District offices. The goal is for the officers to patrol the same areas and work with the same supervisors, making them more accountable for solving and reducing crime in their assigned areas. Morrissey also will be at the helm when
several infrastructure projects that have been in the works for quite some time finally come to fruition, including a new bridge on Morgan Street, the reconstruction of West State Street, a passenger rail service and the construction of an indoor sports complex. During his campaign Morrissey promised to restore home rule powers, something voters rejected in 1983. Morrissey believes that legislative powers can give the city another option to clean up the blighted neighborhoods and solve other issues that are affecting the city.

Rockford plans purchase of property for indoor sports complex UNA VOZ STAFF ROCKFORD – City officials are considering the purchase of part of a property surrounding the former Ingersoll factory to build an indoor sports complex. According to official sources, a purchase price of $580,000 has been negotiated for the property, located at 325 S. Madison Street, next to the old Rockford School District headquarters.
Plans indicate that most of the property, which includes a three-story brick building, an assortment of structures and manufacturing space, would be demolished to build a parking lot. Patrick Zuroske, Rockford capital programs manager, said the main brick building located across the street from a small park would be used for office space. “There is an opportunity here for significant blight reduction,” Zuroske said. The sports complex is expected to be

If the city moves forward with the purchase, city officials would like to keep this company as a tenant for the short term. “It would be great to have a tenant offset some of that cost,” Zuroske said. “It’s a great viable business and they’re open to working with us and staying in the short term.” City council will consider the purchase of the property at their April 22 meeting. Construction is expected to start in late summer.

Continúa el pleito entre Lupillo Rivera y su hermano Gustavo REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ MIAMI – El pleito entre los hermanos de Jenni Rivera continúa, luego de que Gustavo le rompiera los vidrios a la camioneta de Lupillo, mientras la familia de este último estaba adentro. En un programa de televisión Lupillo dio su versión de lo ocurrido. “Nosotros fuimos con las mejores intenciones a tratar de solucionar el problema, jamás nos imaginamos que su reacción sería así y desafortunadamente cometí un error: enfrentarme con alguien cobarde. La verdad es una persona que da lástima”. El origen del pleito no se conoce a ciencia cierta. Mientras tanto, Lupillo se negó a dar detalles, solo dijo que él no tiene necesidad de vender exclusivas. Se especula que el pleito comenzó por la difusión de una
fotografía en la que aparecen los hermanos con la cruz que colocaron en el lugar en el que falleció la Diva de la Banda. “Yo pienso que él tiene sus exclusivas, y que quiere ganar algo de dinero con exclusivas de mi hermana Jenni, yo la verdad no tengo interés en ganar nada con fotos o videos que tenga yo de mi hermana, ese fue error de él”, dijo Lupillo. En cuanto a una reconciliación, Lupillo dejó entrever que espera que esto suceda, pero que es algo que tiene que darse en privado. “Pienso que éste es un problema entre él y yo, lo tenemos que arreglar sin involucrar medios, familias, esposas ni hijos. Es un problema entre dos hombres verdaderos”. A finales de marzo Gustavo atacó en su casa el vehículo de Lupillo usando un bate de beisbol, mientras se encontraban dentro del vehículo la esposa y los hijos de su hermano Lupillo. La policía se vio involucrada en este incidente.

MIAMI – The fight between two of Jenni Rivera’s brothers continue, after Gustavo broke the windows of his brother Lupillo’s vehicle, while Lupillo’s family was inside the vehicle. On a TV show, Lupillo gave his side of the story. “We went there with our best intentions to solve the problem, we never imagined he would react like this and unfortunately I made a mistake: I confronted a coward. The truth is he is a pitiful person.” The cause of the fight is not known for sure and Lupillo refused to give any details, saying only that he does not have a need to sell exclusive content. It is said that the fight started when a photo of the Rivera
brothers was released. The photo showed the Riveras standing with a cross that they had placed at the site where their sister died. “I think he has his exclusives, and that he wants to make money with exclusives about my sister Jenni, and I really don’t have any interest in making any money with photos or videos that I have of my sister, that was his mistake,” Lupillo said. As far as reconciliation, Lupillo hinted that he was hoping for that, but that it is something that has to happen in private. “I think this is a problem between him and me, we have to resolve it without involving the media, families, wives and children. This is a problem between two true men.” In late March Gustavo attacked his brother Lupillo’s vehicle outside his house using a baseball bat, while Lupillo’s family was inside the vehicle. Police got involved in the incident.
