Grow Titans The University of Detroit Mercy Men’s Basketball 2016-2017 season has officially come to an end.

Your Titans finished with a total record of 8-23, and 5-12 in the Horizon League. In conference, the Titans had key victories over Oakland, winner of the Horizon League regular season, and Green Bay, who finished 3rd in conference. Showing growth and maturity as the season went on, our players are ready to get back to work to prepare to be successful in the near future. Players, staff and administration are focused on moving our program forward and set to build a lasting, successful program based on a phenomenal culture and Coach Alexander’s 5 Core Values. Unity, Perseverance, Appreciation, Integrity, and Diligence is what Coach Alexander is building his program around and is relentlessly striving to advance Titan Basketball every day in the Detroit Mercy Way.

The Titans are graduating four seniors this year and they had a very successful Senior Night for their last game in the historic Calihan Hall. Their conference foe that night was Cleveland State and your Titans won the contest 91-83. Senior, Jarod Williams had a career night and almost tallied a triple-double having 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists in 34 minutes. Senior, Chris Jenkins scored a game high 25 points, shooting 6-12 from the floor and making 4 out of his 5 three point attempts during his 39 minutes of play. Senior, Patrick Robinson took care of business on the defensive end of the floor, playing tenacious defense on one of the conference’s top scorers, and scored 6 points shooting 50% from the field. Senior, Matt Grant did not participate in the game but is a great teammate and was able to contribute to the game from the sideline. These four seniors helped tremendously, laying the foundation for Coach Bacari Alexander’s culture transition, leading by example for the younger players, and they will always be remembered as Titans.

Corey Allen Receives Horizon League Freshman of the Year Award Corey Allen is the highest scoring freshman in the Horizon League at 14.3 points per game - ninth in the HL and top 20 in the nation among all freshmen. He is also second in the league in three-point field-goal percentage (45.2%) - hitting 76-of-168 on the season - and is third in three-point field goals per game (2.6).

He has notched double-figures in scoring 19 times this season with nine 20-point games, including a Titan true freshman record of 33 points against Fort Wayne, the most ever by a "true" freshmen since the 31 points put up by Titan Hall-Of-Famer John Long against Bradley in 1975.

Jaleel Hogan Receives All Horizon League 2nd Team Hogan led the Horizon League and is 20th in the nation in field-goal percentage at 59.7 percent. He has scored in double digits in 24 of his 29 games played with six 20+ point contests - all in conference play. He also has recorded five double-doubles, one of just eight HL players with at least five doubledoubles on the year. He is leading the team and is ninth in the HL in scoring at 15.4 ppg., while standing second on the squad and 10th in the HL in rebounding at 6.0 per night. One of his best games of the year was his career-high 39-point outing at Oakland, where he was 17-of-24 from the field.

Titans visit Detroit Institute of Art to view screening of “First to Do it” The Detroit Mercy Titans visited the DIA for the first screening of the documentary “First To Do It”, which is based on the story of Earl Lloyd, the first African-American to play in the NBA.

This season’s Horizon League Tournament, known as Motor City Madness, was held in downtown Detroit at the famous Joe Louis Arena. This is the last year that the Horizon League Tournament will be held at Joe Louis Arena and will transition to the brand new Little Caesars Arena next season. Little Caesars Arena is currently being built in downtown Detroit as part of the revitalization of the Detroit area and will be home to both the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red th Wings. This year’s Motor City Madness, the Titans were the 7 seed and lost to the 10 seeded Milwaukee Panthers in the first round. Corey Allen, Freshman of the Year, scored a team high 18 points, followed by Jaleel Hogan with 10 points.
