SCIENCE CO-OP PROGRAM

FIND OUT HOW TO GET A HEAD START AND STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD

The Science Co-op Program offers students in the Faculty of Science the opportunity to participate in 4 to 16 months of paid, full-time work experience. Students who complete a minimum of 8 months of co-op work while registered in the related non-credit COOP 505 courses will graduate with “Co-operative Education” designated on their transcript and degree parchment.

ADMISSION

Students can apply to the Science Co-op Program online through Elevate. The program accepts applications twice per year, once in the Fall term (early October) and once in the Winter term (early February).

• Connect academic knowledge with practical experience

• Receive the Co-operative Education designation on your transcript and parchment

• Maintain your full-time student status while on Co-op

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION, APPLICANTS MUST HAVE:

• Successfully completed a minimum of 60 units by the application deadline

• A minimum of 18 degree-required units remaining in their degree after the term of application

• A minimum GPA of 2.0 (calculated on the most recent 30 graded units) and be in Good Academic Standing

• Submitted the required application documents

FOR SCIENCE CO-OP STUDENTS

STUDENTS ADMITTED INTO THE SCIENCE CO-OP PROGRAM WILL RECEIVE EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Science Co-op and Internship job board

• Professional Development workshops including resumes, cover letters, job searching, networking, interview skills and more

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

It is the student’s responsibility to search for and secure their co-op work term opportunities. Positions must be paid and full-time work hours and have a minimum contract length of 4 months up to a maximum contract length of 16 months. The team of Science Career Advisors provide support and guidance, and continually work with employers to bring new and exciting opportunities to science students. Students are encouraged to be creative and diverse in their co-op job search. If you secure an opportunity outside the Science Co-op and Internship job board, we can review and approve the position for the Science Co-op Program.

WORK TERMS OPERATE ON THE SAME SCHEDULE AS THE ACADEMIC CALENDAR. STUDENTS MAY BEGIN POSITIONS IN:

• Spring/Summer (May)

• Fall (September) or

• Winter (January)

Students who successfully secure a co-op work term contract are required to report their position to the Science Careers and Co-op team and will be registered in the related non-credit COOP 505 course. Science Co-op Students also have the exclusive opportunity to enroll in SCIE 505, a forcredit 3-unit option course, which can be applied towards their degree options.
