DO I NEED TO PROVE ENGLISH PROFICIENCY?
International applicants whose primary language is not English must prove English proficiency. Most undergraduate programs require a minimum score on one of the following tests: TOEFL iBT (70), IELTS (6.0), Duolingo (100), and CEPT Full Academic Test (100). Selective programs may have higher testing requirements.
The University of Arizona Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) also provides English programs and pathways to assist students in meeting English proficiency requirements for degree studies.
CESL’s Intensive English Program (IEP) focuses on reading writing, listening and speaking to prepare students for progression to the Undergraduate University Track (U-Track) Pathway program and then degree studies. Students can also enter the U-Track Pathway directly without undertaking an EAP program if they meet requirements.
Students successfully completing the U-Track Pathway can fulfill the university’s minimum English language proficiency requirement without taking an additional TOEFL or IELTS exam.
The University of Arizona is recognized as the premier research university in the southwestern United States. We are a leader in engineering, dance, environmental sciences, optics, entrepreneurship, and management information systems –though whatever program you choose, outstanding learning opportunities await you, including options to join research projects from first year.
