Happy fall y’all! Here’s hoping your cows are still out grazing and that the crop is in the bins!! It’s hard to believe we are closing in on the last few months of 2020...but let’s be real for a minute, I think many of us won’t be sad to start a new year! It’s been an interesting summer, to say the least....Covid-19 has made a huge impact in many people’s lives, worldwide. While we seem to be fairly safe here in our small rural communities, many lives have been affected and our hearts go out to those whose lives have changed drastically during this pandemic. Unfortunately, it sounds like this virus is supposed to stick around for a while, so maybe we will just have to live by the words of Luke Combs- “there will be light after dark, someday when we aren’t six feet apart!” We’ve had some friends celebrate some milestones over the last few months- congratulations to our long time friend, Lois McRae, Mar Mac Farms, Brandon, MB who celebrated a big birthday this summer, our lips are sealed on which big number, so be sure to ask her if you run into her sometime! Happy birthday wishes go out to Pat Wilcox, Twin Meadow Livestock, Treherne, MB who celebrated his “nifty” day back in July; also to Kerri Harvie, Harvie Crest Cattle Co., Olds, AB and Greg Woychyshyn, Crest View Ranch, Minnedosa, MB who celebrated their big birthdays this summer- be sure to ask them how the view is from the top of the hill!! We would like to send our sincere condolences to the Lewis family on their loss of John “Jack” Lewis. Jack was a friend among many cattlemen and touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. We also send our sympathies to the Moffatt family on the passing of James “Grant” Moffatt. Grant was a familiar face in the Simmental industry for many years and will be missed by all that knew him. Although this fall might look a lot different from most years, we would like to wish our Simmental family good luck, good health and remember, we’re all in this together. Until next time.... FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 28, 2020 Calgary, Alberta Canada 2020 has been a year unlike any other, and for the Canadian Simmental Association (CSA) and Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation (FCSF) it had brought new learning experiences as the decision was made to restructure its 2020 CSA Convention. The CSA and FCSF “Virtual” Annual General Meetings were held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 via Zoom webinar, and this year’s AGM was primarily an information meeting that covered the basic business of the CSA for the 2019 fiscal year. The meeting was broadcast live from the CSA office in Calgary and chaired by CSA President Garth Rancier. When opening the meeting Rancier stated, “ that although this was a different reporting process, being able to provide an update to our membership was important. Despite the uncertainty throughout much of the world, Simmental is continuing to thrive and it’s a great time for the breed in Canada.” This statement was reaffirmed with reporting of an increase of business and activity, as well as another positive financial year for the CSA. A Young Canadian Simmental Association (YCSA) update was provided by its President, Krista Whelan, and the CSA AGM paused midway so FCSF President, Ken Lewis, could conduct that AGM and provide a review of the Foundation’s 2019 operations. Ken also thanked Ron Nolan for his many years of service to the Foundation as he retires from the FCSF Board. The CSA AGM then resumed and retiring directors Lee McMillen, Blair McRae and Frank Robblee were thanked for their years of dedication and commitment to the board. The new 2020-2021 CSA Board of Directors welcomes newly elected directors Jennie Mutch, Vernon, PEI; Bill Biglieni, Douglas, MB; and Blair McIntosh, Maymont, SK who join Byron Johnson, AMisk, AB; Garth Rancier, Killam, AB; and Francis Gagnon, Chenville, QC. The new CSA Executive rounds our the board and is comprised of Marlin Leblanc, Estevan, SK, President; Roger Deeg, Strathmore, AB, 1st Vice President; and Shane Williams, East Garafraxa, ON, 2nd Vice President. The CSA, along with the Manitoba Simmental Association are looking forward to hosting the 2021 CSA National Convention, YCSA National Classic and FCSF Funraising Auction in Portage la Prairie July 22-25, 2021!

Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup Scholarship Recipients
August 17, 2020 Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup was to have celebrated their 13th Annual weekend on August long weekend 2020. Due to Covid, the Roundup committee decided to have a workshop on how to take cattle photos with Morgan llg . The competitions were Photography and Graphic Marketing. Exhibitors Blake Airey, Chase Airey, Brogan Birmingham, Taylor Carlson, Dylan Frey, Reegan Frey Kyleigh Magotiaux, Katherine Possberg, Madisyn Robertson and Alaina Verwey participated in the events. Everyone will get a Roundup 2020 award for their efforts and you can view the photos and marketing items on the Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup Facebook page and our website https://mbyouthbeefroundup.weebly.com. Thanks to our evaluators, Morgan llg and Jill Harvie. Along with the competitions, there are some interesting facts of Canada Beef on our facebook page. In 2020, Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup will award 2 scholarships: Taylor Carlson ($1000) of Elm Creek, MB. Taylor will be attending Lakeland College to study Animal Science Technology with a Beef Science Major. Taylor has been a 4-H member since she was 8 years old and very active in the 4-H program. She has been the Manitoba Director on the Canadian Junior Shorthorn Board, Sunday school teacher and currently Co-President of the Student Council, just to name a few. Taylor has attended Roundup for the past 7 years and is currently a director on the MYBR Board. Along with owning her own Shorthorn cattle she is also very passionate about Ag vocation, an educational Livestock Display that her family has created to share the truth about animal agriculture . Levi Best ($500) of Harding, MB. Levi will be attending Apprenticeship Manitoba specializing in Welding for 3 years. Levi has attended Roundup the last 12 years and is involved in the Manitoba beef industry with his own herd of Angus cattle. Levi grew up in the 4-H program in Rivers 4-H Beef and in 2019 was the President of the Manitoba Junior Angus Association. Levi keeps busy with welding and his LB Custom Clipping.
