We continued to deliver turnkey industrial solutions while prioritizing the safety and well-being of our clients, employees, communities, and the environment. The results speak for themselves: our success is a direct reflection of the passion and hard work of our incredible team.
At Turner, our commitment to safety is an always-evolving journey, and in 2024, we continued to make significant progress. We reinforced our tried-and-true safety programs while also launching exciting new training programs and investing in innovative technologies to further strengthen our safety performance. We also continued developing our workforce, providing opportunities for advancement and attracting top talent to the industry.
Sustainability remained a key focus in 2024. We expanded our work within the new energy and sustainable sectors, supporting our clients in achieving their individual goals. We’re proving that economic success and the energy transition are not mutually exclusive—they can go hand in hand.
Through impactful partnerships with local organizations and dedicated volunteer efforts, we worked to make a genuine difference in the communities where we live and work. We are so grateful to our employees, clients, and partners for their part in making 2024 a successful year. We’re energized for the opportunities ahead in 2025 and the positive impact we’ll achieve together.
Stephen M. Toups, CEO
A young engineer named Bert Turner buys Nichols Construction Company out of bankruptcy. The company specializes in industrial construction, heavy equipment, hauling, and rigging and equipment rental. It doesn’t take Turner long to realize that the industrial construction industry is a series of peaks and valleys. So, he begins to take steps to ensure a steady stream of revenue, embarking on industrial contract maintenance and other services that fulfill the needs of Turner’s clients. In 1968, Turner hires Roland Toups, who currently serves as executive chairman.
Mr. Turner begins to acquire companies and add additional services like scaffolding, as well as continually expanding the equipment fleet and buying bigger cranes. These moves provide the company with opportunities to manage and control most of the elements that make up construction, maintenance, and turnaround work.
The Turner group enters the fabrication business, forming International Piping Systems, and introduces a pipe bending process that revolutionizes the pipe fabrication business in the United States. The company participates in many of the large industrial construction projects being built in the Gulf South at the time.
Industrial specialty services, such as NDE and inspection services, specialized welding, and environmental remediation are added to fill client needs as they arise. Proprietary programs are developed internally to better track and manage work.
The early companies are consolidated into one entity—Turner Industries Group—with four main business lines: Construction; Maintenance and Turnarounds; Pipe and Module Fabrication; and Equipment and Specialty Services. Five fabrication facilities located across the Gulf South make Turner one of the leading pipe fabricators in the United States.
A focus at Turner this decade is digitizing the wealth of data generated by our employees and at our clients’ jobsites to make data-driven decisions that reduce costs, save time and improve safety metrics. Our everevolving DECIDE WITH DATA® software and services portfolio offers a digital “toolbox” that can solve critical client productivity, reliability, and safety issues. The company builds “one-stop” hiring and training facilities and opens new regional offices in Geismar and Hahnville, Louisiana; Pensacola, Florida; and Freeport, Texas.
New Turner Tablet Applications™ are reducing the burden of administrative work by digitizing and automating paper-based forms and tasks. We have developed—or are in the process of developing—new tablet applications that are helping to increase productivity, adaptability, collaboration, and efficiency at jobsites across the country. Whether it’s a new work package or estimation tool, or applications that capture ticketed work or streamline communication, Turner is setting the pace for the future of work in our industry.
Turner Industries Energy Services allows our portfolio of companies to pursue opportunities in the alternative and emerging energy sectors. We continue to successfully complete new renewable projects, and we will continue to support the global transition to a lower-carbon-energy future.
Turner Industries is continuing to develop the future of leaders with our multidivisional, structured, on-the-job training program designed to equip ambitious individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the industry.
As the cornerstone of Turner’s Gulf of Mexico Operations, our New Iberia, Louisiana facility has direct access to deep water and major interstates. This means modules can be efficiently shipped across the country and offshore. By being able to fabricate, assemble, transport, and install, Turner offers a “ONE Solution” for modular fabrication projects.
Turner Industries’ Sustainability & Innovation Solutions Group is working to advance the company’s sustainability initiatives with a strategic focus on reducing emissions and waste. With demand for sustainable business practices on the rise, Turner wants to remain ahead of the competition and focus on issues that matter to the members of our community.

David Franks, Chief Operating Officer of Turner Industries, recently celebrated 30 years with the company. In this interview, he shares the story of his success, offers advice to aspiring industry professionals and discusses his vision for the future of Turner.
What inspired you to join Turner Industries three decades ago, and what continues to fuel your passion for the company?
Honestly, my journey with Turner began because another opportunity fell through. I interned as a mechanical engineer for an owner, but the company was sold a few weeks before my college graduation and their offer to me was subsequently rescinded. Consequently, I went to work for Turner in a simple “summer job.” Obviously, that “summer job” became somewhat extended.
The camaraderie and family feel among employees coupled with the mutual drive toward success was and remains captivating to me. Lastly, always knowing that at Turner, ROI stands for “Return on Integrity.” This North Star has always provided clear direction and guidance regarding any decision making.
While there have been several additions and anecdotes regarding leadership lessons over 30 years, the saying “Look i nward f irst” is the most prevailing principle. I first learned this concept from my d ad, but I’ve also been blessed to see this principle in action while following several other great leaders at Turner throughout my career. It’s perhaps best summarized this way:
When leading a group of people, if you determine that their location and outcomes are less than desirable, you must first acknowledge that this group of people has followed you to precisely where you led them and the outcome achieved.
Continued growth on both the top and bottom lines. To do so, we must remain mindful of all stakeholders involved. First, we must keep our employees safe and treat them so they experience Turner as an employer of choice. Second, we must continue to clearly demonstrate value to our customers. Finally, as we celebrate over 63 years of industry excellence, we must continue to honor the late Bert Turner’s vision and commitment to family. We must continue to innovate and grow, while always staying true to the Turner family’s core values.
What advice would you give to young professionals aspiring to build a career in heavy industry?
Show Up Every Day. It’s amazing how easy it becomes to receive time off once you have first demonstrated you will be there when expected. Showing up every day demonstrates you are DEPENDABLE.
Safely Work Hard. If you can’t or are unwilling to work safely, this is not an industry for you. Consciously working safely proves you can be TRUSTED once given instruction.
Continue Your Education. Read, ask, attend training, explore, go online find a way to keep learning. Education clearly reveals you are EAGER for more.
Be Coachable. Respond to and respect authority. Follow the leadership placed before you. Stand firmly on principles, but be flexible on most everything else. Being coachable illustrates you are RESPONSIVE.
Stay Drug Free. You will be subject to screenings at any time. If you are a substance abuser, it is more likely you won’t show up, you can’t work safely, you will cease educating yourself, and you won’t respond to coaching. Abstaining from substance abuse reveals you are SELF - DISCIPLINED.
Without question, over the past 30 years, our industry’s approach toward safety performance has changed dramatically, and I wholeheartedly believe for the better. Today, for most of our industry, workplace incidents are no longer considered “normal” or something to be “expected.” Quite the contrary, safety excellence is demanded and incidents that do occur are mostly ”outliers“ and ”unexpected.“ This simply was not the case when I began working in the mid-nineties. While we certainly have still not “arrived,” thankfully the health, life, property, and environmental matters have been dramatically improved and will continue to do so. We must continuously strive for further improvements in this critical area and be a leader in our industry.
Frankly, there are too many examples to mention here. In my experience, Turner has always attempted to follow our founder, Mr. Bert Turner. He believed it is impossible to have a thriving business in a community that’s falling down around it. As such, wherever we work, we participate in and support local educational programs at multiple levels. United Way and other reputable charitable campaigns, chambers of commerce and other local economic initiatives are a few examples. More specifically, TEAM Turner events target certain local needs and our local leadership and employees coordinate to address those when possible. We don’t just show up to work at a jobsite within a community; we intentionally invest in the people of that community as well.
In 2024, Turner Industries achieved another year of exceptional safety performance. With over 44 million hours worked across 439 worksites, we recorded a TRIR of 0.23 in 2024.
We are truly grateful for every Turner employee’s unrelenting commitment to safety; their dedication is what allows Turner to maintain an industry-leading safety record. By prioritizing intensive training, continuous improvement, and open communication, we will continue to create and maintain a safe and successful work environment for all.
At Turner Industries, safety is not a priority—it’s a core value. We also understand that safety is everevolving. In 2024, we introduced innovative safety initiatives like the Top-Job JSA Recognition Program and the Hard Hat Sticker Safety Recognition Program. These company-wide initiatives help emphasize our culture of safety awareness and encourage employees to lead with safety in every aspect of their work.
In 2024, industry organizations also recognized Turner with several awards such as CURT’s Construction Industry Safety Excellence Award and ABC’s Top Performer. Our employees are the key to our safety success, and any recognition we receive is only possible due to their diligence and commitment.

”This data gives us instant insight into the program’s effectiveness and shows how our employees are learning, sharing, and improving our overall safety performance,” said Sandra Hilbun, HS&E manager for Turner Industries. “It’s encouraging to see them actively engaged in all aspects of the program.”
The Turner Top-Job JSA Recognition Program acknowledges outstanding individual and team efforts in communicating hazard awareness and control through the job safety analysis (JSA) process. JSAs are a crucial part of maintaining safety on Turner’s worksites.
heavy machinery risks, and challenges in confined spaces.
The insights gained from JSAs help us create effective control measures. These might include mandating specific personal protective equipment (PPE) for certain jobsites, implementing specialized safety protocols, or fine-tuning work practices to reduce risks and improve safety outcomes.
Involving Turner’s workforce in the JSA process not only increases hazard awareness, but also maintains our culture of safety. Employees engaged in identifying and mitigating risks feel empowered and are rewarded, which aligns with Turner’s commitment to workforce development and team collaboration.
Completed JSAs serve as practical training tools, providing employees with knowledge of task-specific hazards and best practices. This supports Turner’s commitment to workforce education and the development of skilled labor through initiatives like mentor and internship programs.

Turner Industries’ Scaffolding, Insulation, Painting and Abatement (SIPA) group completed a complex scaffolding project for Seaboard Energy’s renewable diesel facility in Hugoton, Kansas.
Turner’s SIPA group was contracted for work including erecting, supporting during turnaround activities, and dismantling engineered scaffold for catalyst dumping and reloading on reactors, insulation, and painting for the outage. SIPA also provided full-service scaffolding, insulation, and painting for the entire outage. Turner Specialty Services (TSS) and Specialized Welding Services (SWS) also supported the project. TSS performed catalyst and hydroblasting services, and SWS’ scope of work during the turnaround included turnaround execution, welding services, bolt torquing, bundle extraction, and equipment maintenance.
Turner Industries recently completed two Tesla projects in Austin, Texas, which involved installing Tesla-owned robotics and conveyor systems, and outage work that focused on maintenance support. By using Turner’s capital project and rope access services, Turner’s team met a tight three-week deadline efficiently.
This job, consisting of 3,796 work hours and a peak headcount of 31, required precise equipment handling. By working closely with Tesla’s team, Turner was able to install equipment in locations throughout the facility.
