arcellus Boykins believes his final season of football at Ceres High will be his best. Boykins admitted he had a down year by his standards last season. “You can’t let your ego get ahead of you,” said Marcellus, who caught 29 passes for 464 yards and three touchdowns while earning first-team all-Western Athletic Conference honors at receiver as a sophomore in 2014. “That’s what I let happen last year. I didn’t work as hard as I should have at practice. I didn’t take it serious. I wasn’t focused. It was a learning experience.”

Boykins will try to help Ceres High end years of frustration in 2016. “It would be extremely special being part of the team that changed the program around,” he said. The Bulldogs haven’t had a winning record or participated in the playoffs since 2004. Ceres High hasn’t experienced much success versus crosstown-rival Central Valley SEE MARCELLUS, PAGE 9
