AkzoNobel is a leading global paints and coatings company and a major producer of specialty chemicals. Calling on centuries of expertise, they supply industries and consumers worldwide with innovative products and sustainable technologies designed to meet the growing demands of our fast-changing planet. Headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, they have approximately 47,000 people in around 80 countries and their portfolio includes well-known brands such as Dulux, Sikkens, International, Interpon and Eka.

Consistently ranked as one of the leaders in the area of sustainability they are committed to making life more live-able and our cities more human.

From its UK base in Blackburn Lancashire, AkzoNobel Wood Coatings maintains a steady and reliable supply stream to its appointed distribution network, together with dealing on a direct supply basis to some of the largest producers in the country.

We live in a World that’s pivotal on the law of supply and demand. There’s no point in creating a demand for a great product if you can’t supply it and supply it quickly, consistently and to the highest standards.

At AkzoNobel Wood Coatings they know this only too well and have created a superb UK-wide network of distributors enabling customers to order and purchase products. This ensures that the market is fully served with every aspect of coatings for factory finished timber constructions. It’s a level of service that’s both personal and locally focused.

Carl Circus, UK Distribution Manager, AkzoNobel Wood Coatings commented, “No matter whether the requirement relates to a hard wearing internal lacquer for a prestigious hotel refurbishment, a durable adhesive and coating system for a traditional sash window construction or simply repainting a domestic fence, at AkzoNobel WFA we can provide the right product and advice’’

Working closely with and monitoring locally appointed distributors is key to the overall delivery of quality at AkzoNobel Wood Coatings. This mentoring and support also ensures and reinforces their commitment, threading together and bonding the connections which can often be lost when dealing with a global coatings industry giant.

In real terms connections are built between distributor, contractors and supply chain partners to ensure the end customer receives the optimum level of support. Distributors carry their own tinting equipment supported by software provided and updated by AkzoNobel Wood Coatings to ensure that colour accuracy and bespoke matching can be confidently provided.

Another crucial element to the AkzoNobel Wood Coatings customer support system is the ability to be there from day one of project planning. Being involved very early in the planning process ensures that the correct or bespoke specification is matched to a specific project. This ‘hands on’ assistance is backed up by a vast array of coated or liquid samples.

Carl Circus finally adds, “Regular product updates and training sessions are carried out with all parts of the supply chain and it’s this joint approach to our customer service commitment which ensures full customer satisfaction and at a speed only truly local support can offer’’.

Earthborn paint confirmed as Ska compliant

Specifiers seeking to certify an office or retail fit-out for sustainability best practice increasingly use the Ska Rating system operated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

To help specifiers streamline their product selection process and reduce research time the RICS is expanding its Ska Rating Product Compliance scheme. Individual products are assessed against Ska Rating criteria and, if approved, are certified to carry the Ska product compliance label.

Earthborn is pleased to confirm that it has achieved its first Ska compliance label with its Ecopro Matt Emulsion.

A high performance, environmentally sound alternative to conventional emulsions, Ecopro Matt has a unique formulation which is totally oil, acrylic and VOC free. This means it is not only eco friendly but also highly breathable and odour free.

Ecopro Matt Emulsion has excellent covering properties and dries to a durable, anti-static, matt finish. It is available in 12 classic shades and bespoke colours can be developed through the nationwide network of Earthborn stockists.

Earthborn Technical Sales Adviser Colin Jones said: “Ecopro Matt Emulsion passed the Ska tests with flying colours as it already holds the stringent EU Ecolabel, like many of our other paints.”

Woodwork is golden

Osmo UK’s Polyx-Oil Effect Gold wood finish is resistant to water and dirt, very durable and smoothens wood surfaces, whilst also providing a touch of individual creativity, thanks to the tint effect. The range is available in three colours. Silver (3091) and Gold (3092) are designed for dark wood species. Polyx-Oil Effect Raw (3044) prevents the permanent ‘wet look’ that appears with original clear Polyx-oil. A minimal amount of white pigment is used to retain the natural light colour tone of the raw wood. It is also microporous and therefore does not crack, flake, peel or blister.
