INTERMEDIATE Trustworthiness
22 February 2017
Everyone can be a hero!
THE moment superheroes are mentioned, we almost always think of heroic characters that thrive in comic books and the silver screen. But in reality, there are many people in society who have carried out courageous deeds worthy of praise. They carry out their responsibilities as part of their obligation to society. Who are we referring to? Look around and you will see faces of people who are policemen, firemen, paramedics and even teachers! These are people we can often count on. There are many others from more professions who dedicate their lives for the betterment of society. List your answers on the board.

What would life be like if there was no honesty in this world? In groups of four, look for an interesting story in The Star. It would have to be one that gives the reader a good feeling. Now imagine the situation in reverse – if there were no values such as honesty and trust; only betrayal – what would the outcome of the story be like? Rewrite the article to show how the story would end. Then, read your story out in groups. (Students can be directed to the original story which is followed by silent reading before each group presents their version of the story.)
