Say it with feeling WE are going to play a game using adverbs of manner and the tone of our voices. Now, with our voices, we are going to express how we feel in three tones: low, middle and high. • If you use a low pitch that means you may be sad, or depressed. • If you use a middle pitch that means you feel quite neutral. • If you use a high pitch that means you are excited and happy. In front of his classmates, each person is going to say this phrase: I LOVE YOU. But here’s the catch, listed below are several adverbs of manner. Your teacher will cut them out and pass them to you randomly. When it comes to your turn, you will stand and say the words I LOVE YOU according to the adverb you have been given. The other students will guess your adverb based on the tone you say it in. Note to teacher: Practice sessions needed as a class before actual activity starts. Carry out several examples with the students so that they associate the intonation with the right (negative, positive or neutral) adverbs. You may also need to go through the list of adverbs of manner below to ensure understanding and definition of the adverbs.
