Ailan fashion showcased in Lawgaw Rugaw Yakamay
Weaving highlighted in three-day workshop Gab Titui Cultural Centre hosted a free, three-day Traditional Weaving Workshop, with a surprise performance by the Thaiwa Dance Team from Iama last week. Local MP Cynthia Lui also dropped in. “Weaving has always been a part of Torres Strait Islander culture and

Community volunteer initiative Lagaw Rugaw Yakamay (Island Clothes Show), created and directed by Geoynaw Isua, was showcased at Gab Titui Cultural Centre on Wednesday and Thursday last week. The idea was to showcase
and market local artists and designers creative talents who included Aunty Cessa Nakata, Darlene Fell, Tiki Marie Nona, Dulcie Nakata, Tamily Shibasaki, Joey Laifoo and Goeynaw Isua, all of whom contributed their merchandise and valuable time.
Lagaw Rugaw Yakamay was about highlighting the talent ‘hidden’ creations of our best and brightest in the field. The show attracted a small crowd who were entertained by local models and Island Stars Dance team, who performed a traditional dance after the show.
