SPOTLIGHT:BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE HOLIDAYS IN TROY

Q: When does preparation for the Holiday Season begin for Troy Main Street?

A:Thefirstthingwedoeachyeartopreparefortheholidayseasonisbookhorseandcarriageridesforthe Grand Illumination. We usually book these in February to guarantee the date. The rest of the preparation typicallybeginsatthebeginningofSeptember.

Q: What would you say is the most challenging thing/task/project for you during the holiday season?

A: I think the most challenging part of the holiday season at Troy Main Street is getting all the intricate details set for Grand Illumination. This event incorporates so many people and coordinating all the details that are always changing can be tough Wehavetokeepgoodnotesasthingsevolvefortheevent

Q: What has been the most rewarding experience/project of the holiday season?

A: I think the most rewarding part of the holiday season is getting to see childrenenjoyingvisitswithSantaintheSantaHouse.Thesevisitsarefree and happen almost every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas.It’ssomuchfuntoseechildrenlineduptovisitwithSantaand toknowthatthisissomethingthatisaccessibleforallchildrentoenjoy

TheSantaHouseisacommunityprojectwhichalsomakesitextra special The house was built as a donation for Troy Main Street by WesternOhioHomeBuildersAssociation.EachyearthecityofTroy works to get the house placed and connected to electricity. David Fair decorates the inside of the house and candy canes are donatedbyThrushandSonCompleteHomeImprovement Seeing thewholecommunitycometogethertomakethispossibleforthe childreninourcommunityissofun!

Q: Where did you get the Downtown Tree from this year? How do you usually source it?

A: Each year The city of Troy selects the tree from a list of Troy citizens who have a tree they would like to donate. This year ’ s tree was donated by Tim and Mona Anderson of Lincoln Avenue If Troy citizens have a live tree growing in their yard that they would like to donate, they can contact the city of Troy and get on the waitinglisttodonate

Q: How many volunteers/people does it usually take to get the tree up and decorate it?

A: The city crews (mostly the parks department) and PSC Crane and Riggingpartnertogethertocutthetreedown,bringitdowntown,setit,and decorateit PSCCraneandRiggingdonatestheircraneserviceseachyear tohelpgetthetreeinplace

Q: How many volunteers/people are needed for the Grand Illumination Event?

A: We use around 30 volunteers during the Grand Illumination event Volunteers helpwithsigningpeopleupforcarriagerides,movingbarricadesforthehorseand carriagerides,assistingwiththeSantavisits,settingup,andtearingdown Weare so grateful to our amazing Troy Main Street volunteers who make this event possible

Q: What is something that you think people would be surprised to find out about the Grand Illumination Event?

A:Ithinkpeoplewouldbesurprisedtoseethedetailthatgoesinto the event and how much we work with the city to pull this off The city’s Parks Department, Street Department, Electrical Department, Utilities Department, Police Department, Fire Department, and Administrative staff all have a hand in helping make this event run smoothly and I think people would be surprised to see how many peopleitactuallytakestomaketheeventpossible.

Q: What is your favorite thing/part of the Grand Illumination?

Q: When did you start preparing for the holiday season?

A: We started preparing in August We started preparing for our holiday season by getting our Shop Small Supplies ordered, getting our community gift card program ready, distributed information flyersforourholidaypromotions,printed&cutoutourelves,packed upourelfpackets,anddistributedthemthroughoutthecommunity

Q: What is the “Shop Local Elf”

Program?

A: This is a promotional program that will be going on until December 23rd and is for any small business inTroy Theselittlefree-standingelvesarehiddenbythebusiness,andthefirstpatrontofindtheelf,wins agiftcardtoalocalbusinessprovidedbytheChamber Wehavealreadyhadsomeelvesfoundoverthe weekend, and we look forward to seeing more excited community members find these little elves throughoutthemonthofDecember

Q: Where did you come up with the idea of the “Shop Local Elf” Program?

A: Knowing how popular the Elf on the Shelf is this time of year, we decidedtoputourownspinonit

Q: Why Shop Small Season and not just Small Business Saturday?

A: It’s great that we have a wonderful Small Business Saturday on November 26th; however, shop small can be all season long too Which is why we are having our “Shop Local Elves” out andaboutuntilDecember23rd Shop Small can be all year long, that’s why we also have our Troy Community Gift Card Program Right now, we have a BOGO promotion with the gift card program that is until December31st,oruntilfundslast.Youcanfindtheinformationforthatonourwebsite.

Q: What is something that you enjoy the most during Shop Small Season/favorite part of Shop Small??

A:WelovetoseehowexcitedpeoplearetoshopinTroyand support our local businesses. It's also great to know that we are able to support our local community buy purchasing the gift cards that we give away. This year we gave away over $2,000

Member of the Month: Purebread Coffee Co.

Purebred Coffee Co. is a gourmet coffee shop located on the east side of downtown Troy. Having opened its doors in November of 2017, Purebred has made its name specializing in locally roasted coffee complemented by fresh, local pastries. The company prioritizes pure ingredients and pure relationships, the way it was intended.

Purebred was founded by power couple, Noah and Meggin Walkup. Their vision was to create a coffee shop that invested in its community and invested in its customers Meggin’s extensive 19 years’ experience in restaurant management combined with Noah’s extensive 12 years’ experience in industrial entrepreneurship has brought this vision to life.

In 2019, after two successful years in the coffee shop business, Purebred expanded to establish a wholesale small-batch roasting facility, located less than one mile from the shop. The facility roasts whole bean coffees for Purebred customers and Purebred wholesale partners Featured coffees include both single origin roasts and coffee blends, all of which highlight unique tasting profiles and the farming science behind each harvest.

Purebred Coffee Co. recently celebrated their 5th anniversary on November 8th. Over these five years, they’ve expanded their business to include wholesale coffee roasting, they’ve helped four new coffee shops open in the past year alone, and they’ve made amazing relationships with their farmers and producers, wholesale and business partners, and countless customers along the way.

Because of such success, they’ll be expanding their Troy café in 2023 to include additional seating, two ADA restrooms, and a full commercial kitchen. Get ready for an expanded pastry menu and a NEW food menu, featuring items made in partnership with The Farmhouse Bakery.

Purebred has been proud to thrive over these five years because of the people who bring their shop to life. Its purest local ingredients, and relational customer service has positioned them to see many years of success and great coffee ahead.
