Our Member Spotlight is Greentech Lawn and Irragation. Celebrating 40 years!
What is the history of Greentech Lawn and Irrigation?
Greentech started in 1984 when it separated its agreement with Perf-A-Lawn, a franchise that was owned by Don Shuler and his son Brian Shuler. They only offered lawn care treatments similar to Chem Lawn, that also started in Troy. Brian Shuler and Larry Smith (both THS graduates and Troy residences) developed the new Greentech name and logo and expanded with additional service offerings to their customer base. The original business was operated out of their homes which were across the street from each other in Kings Chapel.
Their wives, Sandy and Nancy, took turns at babysitting (6) boys one day, and running the business the next day. After many years of growth as a full-service business, Larrys’ sons Phil, Aaron and Joel eventually came into the business, learned all aspects of operation, and helped to continue its growth in the community. Joel Smith and Aaron Smith purchased Greentech in 2019, and Larry retired in 2023.We are grateful for having been able to provide services for 40 years in Troy!

Ever wonder why some companies come to mind first when someone is frustrated at work? It’s not luck—it’s strategic employer branding at play. Just as consumers subconsciously remember brands they love, employees and job seekers can have your company imprinted in their minds through effective employer branding.
According to research from Harvard Business School, 95% of decisions are made subconsciously. This applies not only to what we buy but also where we work. When companies engage in emotional storytelling, support local causes, and foster positive workplace cultures, they create strong emotional connections that stick in people’s minds—ready to surface when they’re considering a career change.
How to Imprint Your Brand in Talent’s Subconscious Engage in Local Events
1.
2. Support Local Causes 3
Sponsor or participate in community events to create positive emotional experiences associated with your company. When people see you active in the community, they remember you as an organization that cares.
Align your company with social causes that matter to employees and potential talent. Supporting fundraisers or charities builds an emotional connection, ensuring your brand resonates when someone’s ready to move on from their current role. 4. Tell Your Story
5.
6 Treat Employees Well 7.
8.
Use storytelling to showcase your company’s mission, values, and culture. Stories of growth, innovation, and community involvement leave lasting impressions, making your company the first thought when people look for new opportunities.
Happy employees are your best advocates. When treated well, they’ll naturally promote your company to others, becoming brand ambassadors that strengthen your employer brand in the community.
