You have been a trailblazer for more than 4 decades, and we thank you for being notorious for ministering to us through your anointed and powerful songs. Thank you for remaining truthful to the Lord, and uncompromising when it comes to your standards and beliefs. We commend you for your faithfulness, persistence, authenticity, and representing Jesus Christ powerfully and magnificently. We would like to recognize you, Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong, on this day, May 24, 2021, for your commitment, dedication, and consistency throughout the years. Thank you for a job well done, and for remaining unmovable and steadfast in the works of the Lord.

Triumphant: How did you find out about God's purpose for your life?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: My mother, Mildred Bell, had a vision and dream one day, Within the dream, my father, Jesse Bell was standing in a bright light; however, my mother and I were inside a dark pit. My mother distinctively recalled asking the Lord, “How could my little one and I get removed from this dark pit? The Lord's reply was, "Promise me the little one will follow the same footsteps of her father in ministry." My mother's response was "Yes, Lord." and once my mother made that promise, we were immediately pulled out of the pit and now we were standing beside my father in the bright light.

Triumphant: Are you the first singer in your family?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: My father, Elder Jesse Bell, is the pastor at Greater Mt. Everett Church of God in Christ in Michigan. He is the first singer, and I am grateful to say, my father is 94 years old. My father professionally recorded, "Labor in Vain", and My father and I were blessed to revisit this song together as father and daughter.

Triumphant: Do you have siblings, and are they singers as well?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: My two sisters, Charlene, Margaret, and I have been singing together since we were children. We still sing and perform together today, and our group name is Vanessa Bell Armstrong and The Bell Sisters.

Triumphant: How old were you when you decided what you wanted in life?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: I was approximately between the age of 10 and 12 years old; there was older lady and she was a member of our church -- she is still living today -- and she wanted to know what I wanted to become when I grew up? My reply was, "I wanted to sing and have five children when I grow up."

Triumphant: Tell us about some of your experiences you had singing with the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: Dr. Mattie Moss Clark asked my father for permission to sing with the Southwest Michigan State Choir. It was a privilege and honor to sing with her because I loved listening to her music and she was also a trailblazer in the gospel arena.

My father's response was an astounding, "Yes" and during that time the Clark Sisters were not heavily involved with the singing; however, preparation was being made for them to come on the

scene later. On the other hand, Twinkie Clark was playing the organ for the choir and I can distinctively remember this because I was 11 years old.

Every album recorded with the Late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark-and you will hear me leading at least two songs per album. -the Lord was preparing and grooming me way back then to become the powerful and anointed woman and singer I am today.

Dr. Mattie Moss Clark would take us to the Apollo Theatre in New York and we stayed there for one week. We would have three performances per day and we had an opportunity to perform on the same stage with some of the greatest today: Pastor Shirley Caesar, Mighty Clouds of Joy, the late James Cleveland, and many more notable gospel singers.

Triumphant: Wow, that is hugely impressive because you are notorious yourself for being a heavy hitter when it comes to contemporary gospel music.

Dr. Bell Armstrong your music remains unchangeable, prevalent, anointed, and powerful today.

After singing with Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, what did you do next?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: After singing with Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, I would begin singing with a group called, "Voices of Heaven" under the Direction of Ronald Kersey and Reverend James Marks. We recorded two albums together and I led several songs. I was well-known for singing my hit song, which was, "Put A Little Love in Your Heart", and whenever we traveled around Detroit, Michigan, people would automatically jump up when they heard the intro to, "Put A Little Love in Your Heart."

Triumphant: What was another defining moment in your life?

Triumphant: Were there more occasions where the Lord confirmed the calling in your life to become a professional gospel singer?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: My husband worked at General Motors in Detroit and he decided to use the money he had earned to invest in my studio time. He stated on several occasions, "I don't believe the Lord gave you a good voice like this just to be singing around the house, or just to be singing in the kitchen". I am going to be honest; I was perfectly fine with singing at my father's church during the weekends and I was completely satisfied with having my children, but my husband

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: When my husband and I went to California for a concert that the late James Cleveland and his choir were having; the choir finished singing the first half of the program and they left the stage for a few minutes to take a short break to get some water and then they would come back to finish the second half of the concert.

It was my perception that I went there to enjoy a concert, and we were just there to listen to the late James Cleveland, and his choir sing various songs; however, when half time came, I overheard someone say, "Now we are going to have Vanessa Bell Armstrong come to the stage to sing a song."

I must be honest with you: this completely caught me off guard and I did not anticipate singing at all. I was nervous in the beginning, but how many of you know Romans 8:30 says, "Moreover whom He did predestinate, them He also called: and whom He called, them He also justified: and whom He justified, them He also glorified.”

Triumphant: What song did you sing?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: I sang, "He Looked Beyond My Faults."

Triumphant: What is something that someone told you that still resonates with you today?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: When I lost my mother and son, I remember telling someone, "Why did I have to encounter losing my mother and son?" and the person responded by saying, "You have been running in your anointing, but God knew you needed to get some more oil in your lamp." The person proceeded to let me know that, "I had to encounter everything I went through to receive a greater anointing to reach my next level."

What are some challenges you had to overcome, and how were you able to overcome those challenges?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: I would have to say when I found out my mother, First Lady Mildred Bell had been called Home to be with the Lord. My mother was my everything because she kept me humbled, rooted, and grounded in the Lord.

After losing my mother, I lost my one and only son; he was also called Home to Glory. Through it all, God's grace and mercy allowed my family and me to become overcomers. We continue to declare the works of the Lord and we continue to give Him the praise and honor He rightfully deserves.

Now, if I can be transparent with you for a moment, my reply was, "I don't want anymore; especially if I have to go through what I have been through to get a greater anointing."

The person proceeded to say, "Baby, it is not up to you because you were chosen in your mother's womb. You have experienced firsthand what it feels like to go through the fire, and the process you went through produced more fire, more anointing, and more oil to take you to your next level. Everything you experienced took place because it is going to help others that may have to encounter the same situations as you.

Triumphant: What are some things you are working on in the future?

Dr. Vanessa Bell Armstrong: I will be releasing a new CD in the upcoming months, and it will be coming out soon.
