TRINITY COLLEGE

The Governing Body of the College reminds you that, as membership of Trinity College confers special privileges, so it demands acceptance of special. responsibilities and discipline,

The purpose of the Colhage Rules and additional regulations made from time to time by the College authorities is to create and maintain conditions in which all memberJJ. of the College m(lY, '1,Chieve the fullest measure of academic success and· derive the greatest benefit from their courses of study by encouraging due observance of the obligations entailed by membership of a university college.

Members of the College are therefore required not only to make themselves familiar with the College Rules and Regulations and to give an undertaking honourably to observe them, but also to do their utmost to make a positive contribution to the, corporate life of the College.

THE COLLEGERULES

1. No member of the College shall be permitte8 'to remain in residence unless the Warden and Tutors are satisfied with his diligence, progress and conduct. The W:arden may, after consultation with the Resident Tutors, suspend or e,opel a member of the College. A person so suspended or expelled shall at once leave the College and shall not again enter the College precincts without the consent of the Council or the Warden.

Against a sentence of suspension or expulsion there shall be a Tight of appeal to the College Counc-il.

2. Members of the College are requi-red, unless dul.y authorised to the contrary, to be iii. residence throughout each of the ·College Terms and, while in residence, to be and remain within the precincts of the College •between the hours of midn'ight and ·7 a.m. daily. During College vacations, no member of the College shall be in residence or take meals in the -Dining Hall or use any of the facilities of the College without prior permission.

All applications for leave of absence during term or for permission to remain in residence during vacations shall be made in ·the form prescribed.

3. Any member of the College who desires to vacate his rooms during the course of an academic year is required to give one term's notice of his intention to the Warden or to pay one term's fees.

4. All College accounts must be paid within fourteen days of the date on which they are rendered. Unless an ·extension of time be •granted personally by the Warden, a fine will be imposed for late payment. Any member

of the College whose account remains unpaid for more than four weeks shall not, unless specially excused by the Warden, be permitted to remain in residence.

5. Members of the College shall regularly attend College tutorials and demonstrations and shall sit for examinations set by College Tutors.

6. Subject in every case to the decision of the Dean, rooms aTe allotted annually to members of the College in order of College precedence.

Without the previous permission of the Dean, College furniture shall not be removed from the room to which it has been assigned nor shall any member of the College alter the fittings of any room. All privately owned furniture and fittings, and the general care of rooms, are subject to regulation by the Dean.

Members of the College are required to observe due economy and care in the use of heating and lighting equipment and appliances.

7. A member of the College who has caused damage to any property of the College or who is aware of damage caused by another person is required to 1•eport the damage forthwith to the Dean.

In the absence of evidence to the contrary, a member of •the College shall be deemed to be o·esponsible for any damage committed in a room occupied by him, whether solely or jointly with another; and the Trinity College Associated Clubs shall be held responsible for damage committed in the public, rooms and areas of the College. 4

r8. Resident members of the College shall wear academic gowns at College tutorials and examinations, in Chapel, and on official visits to the Warden.

At dinner in Hall, both in term and during vacation, every member of the College shall wear an academic gown. In term (except on Saturdays and Sundays) he shall also wear a dark coat and black tie at dinner.

Graduates shall wear the hood appropriate to their respective degrees in Chapel on Sundays and on other occasions specified by the Warden.

The dress of members of the College shall at all times be seemly and shall conform to such regulations as may be prescribed for particular occasions and circumstances.

9. Members of the College shall be punctual for all meals in Hall and shall conform in dress and behaviour in Hall to the requirements of good manners and to such regulations as may be made by the Dean. Such regulations shall be enforced by the several Table Presidents and their deputies who shall be responsible to and appointed by the Committee of the Trinity College Associated Clubs.

Members of the College may invite male guests not exceeding two in number to meals in Hall, except on the occasion of any official College dinner or Sports Night. Those who invite guests to meals are responsible not only for their general behaviour but also for duly signing the Guest Book. The Trinity College Associated Clubs shall meet the cha•rges for any guest not ac-knowledged in the Guest Book by his host.

10. Members of ·the College shall not behave in a manner prejudicial to the peace, order or good reputation of the College. They shall not cause any disturbance nor discharge fireworks within the College precincts, nor shall they play musical instruments, gramophones, wh·elesses or radiograms except in the manner and at the times and places prescribed by the Dean.

Members of the College shall not throw anything out of College windows or upon the -roof of any Col'ege building, nor shall they enter or leave any College building by other than the appointed means of entry and exit.

Betting, playing for money and other forms of gambling are prohibited in any part of the College.

11. No member of the College shall take part in any raid, '-rag' or similar visit to any other College or Hall or to any part of the University.

12. Alcoholic liquor shall not be kept or consumed within the precincts of the College except in accordance with regulations laid down by the Warden.

13. Visitors, whether male or female, may not be in the College precincts except within the times laid down by the Wa-rden.

14. No member of the College may bring a motor vehicle into the College grounds or keep a motor vehicle anywhere except at his own home or habitually use a motor vehicle owned by another person without the prior permission of the Dean. Permission will normally be given only to senior members of the College.

No vehicle shall be parked in the College grounds except in areas specified by the Dean.

16. College Tutors are empowered to punish by fines, gating or other appropriate penalties any breaches of College discipline which they do not consider to be of sufficient seTiousness to report to the Dean ; but all infringements of Rules 12 and 13 shall be so reported.

16. Any case of illness or injury to a member of the College shall be reported immediately to a resident Medical Tutor and to the Catering Manager.

17. Without the express peTmission of the Warden, none but members of the College shall use the College Library nor shall any book belonging to the College be removed from the College premises. Resident members of the College may borrow books (other than diotionaries, encyclopedias, examination papers, law Teports and such other books as the Librarian may from time to time specify) from the Library, provided that books lost or damaged while on loan shall be repaired or replaced at the expense of the borrower.

Permission to borrow books may at any time be withdrawn for breach of the Library Regulations from time to time in force.

18. Every member of the College, on his enrolment, shall sign the following declaration:-

'I, A. B., upon my enrolment as a member of Trinity College, solemnly promise that I will honourably observe the rules of the College from time to time in force, and also that I will submit myself to the discipline of the College as administered by the Warden of the College and all to whom authority may be delegated by him'.

19. Regulations for the detailed implementation of these rules may be made and altered from time to time by the Warden of the College,
