Council debates ARP priorities By Chris Frost Tri County Sentry Oxnard-- The city council, Thursday, July 29, held its first discussion as a full-body about the American Rescue Plan funding and how to use the money wisely. City Manager Alex Nguyen opened the discussion and informed the council it had three public sessions on the funding during committee meetings in July. “The portion of it designed for local government recovery is all good news,” he said. “There is no way that we should consider any bad news here. They are all good choices before you. The only thing is because we have such a long list and such a variety of needs here, you can’t choose everything.” He advised the public when they review the list the council will choose from; they won’t need to make cuts. “The council will make the choices, and we are not making n ARP, see page 7

TTENDEES proved that you’re never too old to rock and roll and got down to hits from Pablo Cruise, the Classics IV, the Eagles, and, of course, Bon Jovi and Huey Lewis and the News, to name a few. The band, Rick Thornton, Tom Pugliese, John, and
Mark Faustino, and Michael Niva, came up to Ventura County from the South Bay and delivered a great set that got attendees up and grooving to the beat. The band announced to the crowd that it was their first gig after being laid off due to the Covid-19 lockdowns, n UNDRCVR, see page 12

Oxnard-- South Oxnard had a big day, Friday, July 30, as the proposed South Oxnard Aquatic Center at College Park kicked off with optimism, cheer, and the spirit of a transformational project getting started. The new proposed facility will give South Oxnard residents a swimming pool, a training pool, and various water
features that will expand the city’s swimming lessons, so the kids are safe in the water. State Senator Monique Limón provided the biggest gift to South Oxnard residents, a check from District 19 to the City of Oxnard for $5 million to get the project going. “Going into the budget cycle in the State of California, we weren’t quite sure n South Oxnard, see page 5
