TPE AWARDED SAFEGUARDING ACCREDITATION FOR SECOND

We’re delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Safeguarding on Rail Scheme accreditation for the second year in a row for safeguarding vulnerable people.

The accreditation from British Transport Police (BTP) and the Department for Transport recognises the vast amount of work being carried out to make our network a safer place for everyone.

Families across Greater Manchester are in for a treat this Easter thanks to the generosity of our colleagues.

The Service Delivery team has been collecting Easter eggs for Mustard Tree, a charity that supports families who are less fortunate across

Feedback in the report stated ‘there was clear evidence that the business is fully committed to safeguarding’ and the way we have ‘embraced inclusion and neurodiversity is a credit to TPE’.

Our Accessible Travel Policy also received a specific mention as well as colleagues Chris Jeffrey, Amy French, Ashley Hulse, Steve O’Callaghan and Leah Richards for their commitment and dedication to safeguarding.

Greater Manchester, and we’re pleased to share that a fantastic 130 Easter eggs have been collected and donated to the charity.

Harry Dwan, Fundraising Manager for Mustard Tree, said: "An amazing Easter egg collection, thank you very much. These donations will really help spread love, dignity, and a bit of normality to families we support."

A huge thank you and well done to Simon Turner and his team for organising the collection and thank you to colleagues who donated an Easter Egg – eggscellent work!

YEAR RUNNING

Billy Vickers, Head of Stations and Safeguarding, said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved for your drive and passion for safeguarding and making the rail network a safer place.

“This is a fantastic result and you are all a credit to TPE. We couldn’t achieve any of this without your support. There is still more work to be done but we should be really proud of our progress so far.”

STOP CHILD EXPLOITATION DAY

Sergeant Steve O’Callaghan (BTP Liaison Officer) joined multiagency partners in Hull this week to raise awareness of Stop Child Exploitation Day.

Stop Child Exploitation Day aims to encourage everyone to think, spot, and speak out against abuse and child exploitation.

Steve was joined by BTP, Humberside Police, Railway Children, and Hull City Council, who all gave out material to customers and spoke to staff in the station coffee shops about the signs of exploitation they should look out for.

The day was a huge success and is another step forwarding in ensuring we all know the signs so we can safeguard vulnerable people on our network.

Engineering work started on Saturday in the Sheffield area as part of the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade. The work is on schedule to be completed on Sunday 24 March, simultaneously marking the end of the project, which will remove bottlenecks and improve journeys between Manchester and Sheffield.

During the final days of the project, engineers will be at Dore & Totley station to complete the work on a second platform and the redoubling of the tracks. The new, Manchester-bound platform will become Platform 1 when it’s taken into use on Monday 25 March. The current Platform 1, that has been extended to accommodate longer trains, will become Platform 2. They will also continue work on a new, accessible footbridge with lifts that will link the new platform to the current one. These lifts won’t be in operation when the platform is put into use, meaning there is no step free access to Platform 1 until 4 April. Customers who need step free access, will need to call Passenger Assist to arrange alternative transport.

Engineers working during this blockade will also complete:

• Track installation and drainage work

• Follow up work on new track at Grindleford

• Recovery of redundant signalling equipment

• The final commissioning of the upgraded signalling system
