TPE CONDUCTOR HELPS RETURN TWO MISSING CHILDREN HOME
Quick-thinking TPE colleague Mark Reed has helped return two missing children to their home in London. Mark, who works as a conductor, spotted a young girl wearing school uniform as he was carrying out his duties on a train bound for York late at night. He said that ‘alarm bells’ rang as she boarded the train wrapped in a blanket at Manchester Piccadilly station. He then discovered that the youngster and the boy travelling with her did not have a ticket or any means of paying and had a large rucksack with them.
Mark alerted British Transport Police (BTP) who sent officers from West Yorkshire Police to take the pair into their duty of care at Leeds station.
Mark said: “I've only been on the railway for the relatively short period of two and a half years, but in this time I have come across and dealt with a number of missing children.
“If something doesn't feel right, then report it. Be smart and ask questions. Overall, on our network we have great support and are lucky to have BTP at a number of the stations we serve.”
Billy Vickers, Head of Stations and Safeguarding, said: “Mark did an incredible job getting these two children to a place of safety and I know our other colleagues would do the same.”
Well done Mark!
NEW BRIDGE DECK ON HUDDERSFIELD VIADUCT AS ENGINEERING WORK CONTINUES IN THE AREA
Engineering work started in and around Huddersfield station on Friday 29 March as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade.
In the first half of the 10-day blockade, engineers removed and replaced the bridge deck on Huddersfield viaduct over the A641 Bradford Road. They also continued installing new track in Deighton and Mirfield, with more than 450 meters of track being upgraded during these 10 days.
Over the coming days, work will also start on the roof canopy at Huddersfield station, with six panels scheduled to be removed on the Manchester-side of the railway station. The work is on schedule to be completed by Sunday 7 April.
Congratulations to the colleagues who celebrated long service milestones in March.

HAVE YOU BEEN TO ONE OF OUR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH WELLBEING ROADSHOWS YET?
Free health checks and expert wellbeing advice were on the agenda for TPE colleagues last week as the Wellbeing Roadshow landed at Manchester Piccadilly.
Occupational Health Manager Debbie Easby and Wellbeing Coordinator
Becky Walker hosted the event, inviting colleagues to have mini health MOTs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen level checks) as well as get cholesterol and glucose levels tested.

If you haven’t been to one of the roadshows yet, the next one is taking place on Tuesday 9 April in Hull from 10.30am until 2.30pm. Drop in at any time that is convenient for you.

Last week, TPE colleagues were out and about on the network spreading Easter cheer to our customers.
Colleagues handed out small Easter eggs at stations and onboard our trains as part of our Surprise and Delight initiative and there was even an appearance from the Easter Bunny himself! Special thanks go to Matt Barrick for being a good sport and dressing up.
We also ran a competition to guess how many mini eggs were in a jar to be in with the chance of winning two Betty’s Easter hampers. A huge thank you to all of our colleagues who got involved to help make our customers’ Easter egg-stra special!
