CYCLE TO WORK DAY

Thursday 3 August is Cycle to Work day, and it’s a great opportunity to get in the saddle, whether you’re an avid cyclist or have never been on a bike before.

Cyclescheme, our cycle to work scheme provider and the organiser of the day, are giving cyclists the opportunity to win some incredible prizes including a bike rental membership and a Fitbit. To win join their Love to Ride community and create a free profile, you then just need to log a ride of 10 minutes on 3 August and you’ll be entered into the prize draw.

Our Cycle to Work scheme

To help our colleagues save whilst commuting to work we have signed up to the governments cycle to work scheme in partnership with Cyclescheme. Ride2Work is a Government initiative which aims to make cycling a more attractive way of commuting to work. Colleagues can take advantage of significant savings and benefits which cycling has to offer. The scheme allows you to hire or own bikes and accessories through a process of salary sacrifice. This can lead to savings over retail prices of between 25-39%, depending on your tax bracket. This saving is achieved by paying for the bike/ accessories from your gross salary (before tax), meaning your income tax will be based on your salary minus the cost of the bike/accessories.

What’s included?

You can spend anything up to £2,000 on a bike, accessories or both through the Ride2Work scheme. Most types of bikes are allowable including e-bikes, and all variants of adapted bikes, recumbents and hand cycles.

Contact TPE.HRAdmin@tpexpress.co.uk to find out more about the scheme, or the cyclescheme team on 03448 795 101

How do I apply?

• Go to https://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/ and press “I’m an employee”.

• Enter “TransPennine Trains Ltd” or our code: b110c1d

• You can then start your certificate application, all you will need is your payroll number and an idea of the value of the bike and accessories you need for your commute.

• Once your details have been filled in and the application has been approved by the scheme administrator, you will receive the certificate by email with details on how to collect or order your bike. The salary sacrifice will commence from the next salary payment.

RECOGNISING SOME AMAZING WORK IN THE NORTH EAST

Last Friday it was an eventful day for our stations in the North East with multiple difficult incidents taking place, that were dealt with calmly and professionally.

The first incident took place at Scarborough station, with colleagues supporting a vulnerable young woman who was dealing with a mental health challenge. She collapsed in the station and colleagues stayed with the woman until the ambulance arrived. They did an incredible job safeguarding her, getting immediate care, and supporting each other as well.

Further along the North route at Middlesbrough a fatality sadly took place near the station. The team were exceptional, immediately clearing the platforms of customers, updating the CIS, and ensuring that customers were aware of what was happening. Once the train involved got to the station, colleagues

did an amazing job helping customers who missed their connection into taxis and minibuses. Over the next three hours, in collaboration with Northern, colleagues worked together to coordinate units and traincrew, and helped customers during this time. The disruption also affected those at Thornaby, with colleagues at the station keeping customers informed and moving. See below some great feedback we received from a customer:

The final incident of the day took place at Northallerton, with a customer falling ill, hurting their head and needing an ambulance. Colleagues dealt with the incident swiftly, ensuring the dignity of the customer, and still operating the station in a calm and efficient manner. It was an eventful day for everyone involved so thanks for everything you did for our customers.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE!

We’re always receiving some great comments from customers about our amazing colleagues! Here’s some we received last week:
