“Visitors will enjoy a larger, improved event with many innovations to discover”
Comment
The Bed Show is celebrating its eighth anniversary this year, and will bring together over 80 bed manufacturers and component suppliers, ranging from relatively new small companies to some of the biggest names in the market. Visitors will enjoy a larger, improved event with many innovations to discover.
The Bed Industry Awards are in their seventh year, and will recognise the most successful bed manufacturers, suppliers and retailers. As usual, the judges received an impressive array of entries for this year’s awards, making choosing the winners particularly difficult. The winners will be announced at the Gala Dinner on the Tuesday of the show.
Last year’s winner in the Bed Component Supplier of the Year category was Vitafoam, and sales director Graham Wilson certainly saw the merit of the awards, saying: “We were bowled over to win the award in 2016. Receiving this award was a pat on the back from the industry and we were very proud to receive it.”
Furniture News produces the Bed Show supplement in order to aid visitors in making the most of the event and staying as well-informed as possible.
See p6 for a useful map and extensive list of exhibitors, p8 for more information about the NBF’s bed training courses and p10 to find out more about a talk given at the NBF’s recent Spring Forum on the future of bed manufacturing in the wake of Brexit. In addition, don’t miss an interview with Daniel Wade, MD of bed and bedroom furniture retailer Feather & Black on p12, in which he explains how the business combines style with an in-depth understanding of what makes for a good night’s sleep. You’ll also find plethora of exhibitor updates.
I hope you’ll find this supplement a valuable asset before, during and after this year’s Bed Show. With so much to discover at the event, it’s sure to be a worthwhile visit for those involved across all areas of the industry.

Bringing the bed industry together once more
Over 80 brands including British bed manufacturers and component suppliers – from big industry names to small niche companies presenting their latest innovations, offers, promotions and sales support for the UK market – will be exhibiting at this year’s Bed Show.
Retailers and specifiers interested in British-made mattresses, divans, bedsteads, futons, headboards, pillows and toppers are amongst those who attend the Bed Show each year. In addition, the show also appeals to bed manufacturers and specifiers looking for tickings, springs, foam, fillings, bed machinery plus many other bed-related components.
Bigger and better year-on-year, the Bed Show is celebrating its eighth year. It is widely recognised as the UK’s biggest bed specific exhibition, attracting more than 1400 visitors. Nowhere else will visitors get to see such a wide range of large and small companies and most major UK brands.
Only NBF members can exhibit - which means visitors placing orders are investing in and supporting British manufacturing and Britishmade products. Since the introduction of the independently audited Code of Practice, buyers can buy with confidence knowing all the exhibitors are meeting their legal obligations and supplying products that are safe, clean and honest.
This year’s NBF Gala Dinner will be held on Tuesday 19th September, which will house the NBF Industry Awards, hosted by comic, dramatic performer and writer, Meera Syal. The evening will include a drinks reception, dinner, awards ceremony and dancing to the small hours.
Entering its seventh year, the NBF Bed Industry Awards recognise and celebrate the most successful bed manufacturers, suppliers and retailers.
With a bumper crop of entries, the independent panel of judges have had a tough time picking winners in each of the four categories: Bed

Bed training courses for all
With the launch of a new, shortened version of its established training programme for bed salespeople – the Express Sleep Sales Course – the NBF now believes it offers a package of online training courses to cater for everyone in the industry.
Derived from its full Sleep Sales Course, the express version is for those salespeople who choose not to record their weekly sales data or for those whose primary role is not in sales – such as department managers, directors and customer service roles.
The new, express course excludes the sales data capture (SCR) modules which record sales conversion rates and average order values.
Simon Williams, marketing manager at the NBF, says: “The development of the Express Course came after we noticed that some retail salespeople who had started the original course were not completing it.
“On investigation, it became apparent that not all candidates had the time to record SCRs or it was simply not applicable to their job role.
“This new version can be completed in a matter of hours rather than weeks but importantly still maintains all the key learning and assessment modules.”
Upon completion of the new Express Sleep Sales Course, candidates receive an associate certificate via email, whilst those completing the
full programme become graduates of the academy, receiving a pin badge and certificate with their names and company name added to the NBF Roll of Honour on the Sleep Council Sales Academy website.
Simon continues: “The beauty of this course, as with all our training, is it can be accessed anywhere online using either a PC, tablet or mobile. Delegates signing up can also download the Sleep Hub app to track their progress and complete the course remotely.”
The Express Course is the latest addition to the NBF’s training options which also include The Introduction to Beds Course, designed for anyone new to the bed industry, regardless of their role. It is also ideal to be used as part of an induction programme for all new starters in a business.
The Express Sleep Sales course costs £49 whilst the Introduction to Beds is just £25. There is also a special bundle offer – the Express Sleep Sales Course or full Sleep Sales Course, plus Introduction to Beds for just £60. All courses are completely free to NBF member companies.

‘Brumping’ along
Specialist bed industry correspondent Jan Turner reports on a spot of ‘future gazing’ as presented to members of the National Bed Federation (NBF) at its recent Spring Forum.
In the topsy turvy world of ‘Brump’ (the Brexit/Trump effect), the job of the ‘future-ologist’ has become even trickier on an already hard-togauge global stage.
But it’s this very uncertainty which feeds our appetite and enthusiasm for a spot of future gazing. At the NBF’s recent Spring Forum, James Woudhuysen, visiting professor of forecasting and innovation at London South Bank University, painted an interesting picture of the future as he sees it – from what could lie in store for the bed industry to wider developments in the manufacturing and retail sectors.
Who knew, for example, that there’s a Chinese bed company called ManWah with a £700m turnover? Or that 3D printing has become so advanced you can now print your own personalised sweater in 45 minutes? How long, then, before you can use that technology to turn out bespoke mattresses? There are, he says, very interesting things happening with the integration of structural electronics and 3D printing which could be applied to making beds/furniture.
Long a country of surprise, fascination and gargantuan growth, James Woudhuysen took some time to look at China for clues to the future of our sleeping habits. China, he says, is no longer a low cost, low wage economy. The population is becoming richer and more sophisticated and Chinese consumers don’t have a lot of debt - even if state-owned enterprises do. The Chinese economy is less dependent on exports and by 2020 it will have more robots than anywhere else in the world.
Growth may have slowed from the heady days of double digit yearon-years, but the country still racks up a stonking 6% increase in GDP annually – a figure which would have any European nation dancing in the streets right now.
Indeed China is leading the US in all things to do with energy –traditional, nuclear and renewable. And guess what? China is very
interested in us here in the UK. So enamoured, in fact, that it has this year sent its first freight train all the way from China to Barking!
According to James, India is moving in the same direction too - so we’re not without friends. And with the US also making overtures in our direction, it may be that Britain has one or two significant allies to sustain us during the feared new age of protectionism.
Far more worrying, says James, are the arbitrary legal measures effectively acting as trade barriers in various countries – such as green measures, safety standards and the ruthless singling out of errant foreign firms for fines. His advice is to cultivate trade specialists in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Outlining advances in 3D and structural electronics (SE), James explained that the aerospace and automotive industries now install structural SE in their goods, including the kind of electronic components that can bear loads, or be built into the skins of products. And as SE can be 3D printed, it may be that in years to come they could well be fitted to beds.
Time, therefore, for British manufacturers to start investing – big style – unlike those in the US where a lot of high-tech companies, including most notoriously Apple, now prefer to sit on huge amounts of low-interest cash than to take a risk on new laboratories and new products.
“Don’t postpone the best type of investment because of uncertainty – you won’t be in the right place to recover,” he told members of the NBF. “Get on with it - buck the trend in the West, make serious capital expenditures. Invest in IT, more mechanisation, research and development skills, higher wages and a good environment for your staff. Your workers need good conditions.”
In retail, the online threat is real, he says. So bed manufacturers need to pressure retailers to keep their game alive with more theatre,
JAN TURNER Director at AKA PR and specialist bed industry correspondent
“It is time for British manufacturers to start investing big style, unlike those in the US, where a lot of high-tech companies – including most notoriously Apple – now prefer to sit on huge amounts of low-interest cash than to take a risk on new laboratories and new products”
JAMES WOUDHUYSEN Professor of forecasting and innovation at London South Bank University

such as live music, smells, experiences like cookery lessons, education and events. Experiences that can’t be replicated online.
Then add value through services – make sales more consultative, make finance, delivery, installation and training painless.
Maintenance and repair could also be made more attractive, and disposal a breeze.
Then there are our homes themselves. People are getting taller and fatter but flat sizes are becoming smaller - yet it remains the case that more than 90% of Britain’s surface area is not built upon – a subject on which James had one or two interesting, if not controversial, observations to make.
Such as, if we’re so short of housing to meet current demand in the UK and so short of space on which to build them, then perhaps it’s time to wipe out a bit of green belt to solve the problem. After all, flora and fauna have had it all their own way for much too long!
With robot bricklayers capable of working three times faster than humans, it’s easy to imagine the speed with which new homes could go up.
If proposals for 16m2 rooms on a Barnet house development go through (smaller than a Premier Inn room), how long will it be before popular demand insists on a deregulation of Britain’s land, to allow millions of homes to be whipped up?
Back again to China where they’ve built a 3D printed home in just three hours. Designed to last 150 years and be earthquake proof, it’s covered by 22 patents, not made of concrete and is the result of a development in holograms for construction and architecture by Microsoft.
The potential then for an awful lot of homes in a staggeringly short space of time – and all of them presumably needing beds and other furniture and furnishings.
While this is all very encouraging, there were words of caution too
as it’s not just technology that is changing and making more things possible much more quickly. Peoples’ attitudes are changing with a clear need for greater transparency evolving as the world becomes more confusing.
Watch out, warns James, for the press attacking the brand, product and price confusions retailers so love to create – such as the recent Australian press exposé on inflated retail prices for mattresses, along with such other scandals as those seen by Volkswagen over its diesel emissions, a looming ‘legitimacy crisis’ could mean curtains for the cowboys.
Great news for the bed industry, which has been especially plagued by its fair share of shoddy traders, and all the more reason for the sector to really promote the NBF Code of Practice.
We’re also living in a time of health fears and other panics – ADHD, red meat, burnt toast, puddings, phthalates, to name just a few. With that come opportunities - but also potential minefields - when it comes to positioning product.
So while there are certain advantages to the increasing medicalisation of beds - such as building in sensors that can warn older people of impending heart failure by detecting poor blood circulation – the advice is not to go too far and certainly don’t make promises you can’t keep.
Invest instead in R&D and offer genuine solutions for genuine problems – don’t patronise older people and don’t indulge tech-savvy millennials who, in general, are nowhere near as well-read or as good at Googling as their grandparents.
In the never-can-tell world in which we now live, China and a variety of new technologies mean that the bed industry has some new and exciting homework to do. Reassuring stuff for those prepared to put in the time and money needed to hold the Trump card.

Since then, the business has continued to offer impressive style coupled with an understanding of what makes for a good night’s sleep. Furniture News quizzes MD Daniel Wade to discover more about the bed expert’s secret to success ...
Giving customers the expert treatment
Words: Victoria Noakes

How long have you held your role at Feather & Black, and how did you first come to work there?
I have been in this role for over four years but first joined the company 11 years ago. I have done every job in the company from buyer to marketing to sales.
Tell us about the history and philosophy of Feather & Black
The Wade Group took over the original Feather & Black business –which was formed in the early noughties – and then merged with the Iron Bed Company in 2005. Now we have regional stores all over the country, including London, Bristol, and Manchester.
Feather & Black is a leading retailer of bedroom furniture, mattresses and accessories. We partner with premium partners in the UK and globally to manufacture our furnishings, for example Harrison & Spinks mattresses.
What exactly does Feather & Black offer?
We stock beds and mattresses for every requirement and budget along with a full range of luxury bedroom furniture, from bedside tables to bookcases. We provide everything needed to create your ideal bedroom haven, including all the finishing touches such as duvets, bed linens and throws.
What is the inspiration behind the company?
Our sleep experts started with the simple commitment to creating quality beds with inspirational design. We believe in quality, design and choice at an affordable price, and we aim to create ‘Perfect Bedtimes’ for our customers.
What extra do you offer your customers in terms of service?
All of our mattresses come with up to a 10-year guarantee, plus we offer a 100-night mattress trial, so if the customer isn’t satisfied that they have chosen the right product for them in this time frame, we will exchange it. We also have mattress protection plans in place, and a mattress and divan disposal service available.
What’s more, on our website, we have collated some of our favourite trends and bedroom inspiration to help customers in their bed-buying journey – including styles such as French Romance, Global Nomad, Countryside Hideaway and 19th Century Estate.
“Our sleep experts started with the simple commitment to creating quality beds with inspirational design”
What makes Feather & Black stand out from its competitors?
There are many reason why we stand out among our competitors. Our mattresses are made with revolutionary pocket-spring technology to accommodate different needs for comfort. With a choice of up to seven tensions, our luxury mattresses are made with revolutionary pocket-spring technology, giving you a uniquely personal experience which is unrivalled by any other UK bed company.
Also, our Build a Bed service means that our customers can own something made especially for them. Our selection of upholstered bed choices is huge, ranging from affordable through to totally luxurious and our simple bespoke journey allows you to mix and match bed size, base, headboard style, fabric and extras.
What’s more, we think of ourselves and experts in sleep, using innovative technology, skilled craftsmanship and quality materials to create the right product for our customers.
How important is craftsmanship to the business?
Craftsmanship is very important. We enjoy strong, lasting relationships with all of our suppliers and trust them to provide us with products of the highest standard – from mattresses grown and hand-stitched on our Yorkshire farm and factory to ethically-sourced timber and bed linen made from nothing less than 100% cotton.

What are the company’s aims?
Our aim is to continue offering affordable luxury for our valued customers. In order to do this we are focused on two main things –maintaining our price promise and supplying an extensive range of bedroom products.
Which products are popular with customers right now?
Weathered oak furniture continues to be popular with our customer and the introduction of the rattan gives our customer a new Colonial style. Upholstered beds continue to grow, allowing the customer to make the product bespoke.
What’s new in the company?
We are very pleased to have recently appointed Phillipa MacDermott as our new Head of Buying, who brings with her a wealth of knowledge in the global textiles industry. She joins us after a career in buying spanning almost two decades, travelling the world to work with designers before specialising in home and lifestyle as a buyer at Laura Ashley.
We’re also delighted to have won the Feefo Gold Service award last month, after gaining top praise from our customers last year, as well as being shortlisted for a VM Christmas Award for our special window displays in December.
In addition, we recently worked with Chichester College, where art and designs students used a selection of luxury beds, accessories and soft furnishings to design the show homes at the Ideal Home Show.
How does the company address the needs of a changing market?
We always make sure we’re up to date with the latest trends in our industry, and the latest phenomenon is the mattress in a box. This is something we have recently introduced in response to the needs of consumers. Our aim is to create a product that is high quality, comfortable and can be delivered to the customer within 48 hours.
What trends are you currently experiencing?
Feather & Black is supporting the bringing the outside inside trend, with the cover of the Spring brochure showing the fantastic new olive palms print and array of cushions in a green colour palette.
What pressing issues are affecting the business right now?
Actually business is pretty good at the moment. We haven’t experienced any marked effect from Brexit as we are not exposed overly to imports. The web is our largest store and customers love to try and buy as well, so local stores are really important to give a proper UK presence.
What are the company’s future plans?
We have plans to open new stores and we also will be relaunching spaces in Cheltenham and Fulham, which we are very excited about. 2016 was a very successful year for Feather & Black, and we are confident we can repeat this in 2017. We’re looking forward to the new directions the company is heading in.

The exclusive launch of Highgate Beds’ Medicpaedic label and SportLine range of mattresses will take place on stand A25 at the NBF Bed Show.
Highgate combines medical properties with sporty appeal
The Healthopaedic Diplomat range was launched at the January Furniture Show this year and has been embraced by Highgate Beds’ retailers. Responding to retailer feedback, a range of traditional two-sided pocket mattresses have been developed.
Diplomat mattresses are all hand side-stitched, incorporating natural fillings of mohair, pashmina and bamboo but with the added comfort layer of Highgate’s own Zero Gravity buried beneath these natural fillings.
Now Highgate Beds is launching the new Medicpaedic brand with SportLine range, which it will be unveiling at the forthcoming Bed Show. SportLine brings together first-generation Zero Gravity technology with the recently-developed second generation, which is medical standard. This produces the benefit of spinal realignment and body positioning, proven to alleviate back ailments and other symptoms that are connected to the spinal area.
In launching this new addition to the already-successful Zero Gravity range of products, Highgate hopes to bring its brand awareness to the retailer and to consumers alike, and to show that it is proactive in its in-house developments. Hoping customers get the best possible sleep is Healthopaedic’s aim.
This new 37.5 comfort zone technology of SportLine works to enhance the body’s natural cooling mechanism. The fabric is specifically drywicking - designed to ensure that cooling properties are working throughout the night in order to keep the body temperature regulated.
In cool situations the thermal elements of the fabric technology will also help the sleeper to stay warm - in any event the body is always temperature regulated.
This vibrant SportLine range shows not only all of the technology of the fabric and second generation medical Zero Gravity benefits, but also the medical advantages.
Inspiration for this new line came to Zahid Ayub, sales director at Highgate Beds, after seeing the popularity of various sports footwear and clothing options, which led him to take the lively colour swatches and athletic appeal and to encompass the style within the new SportLine range under the Medicpaedic brand.
The exclusive launch of the Medicpaedic brand and SportLine range of mattresses will take place at the Bed Show. Visitors can look forward to a warm welcome from the team and can test out the technology and comfort for themselves.

Producing quality products at value for money prices is key to the success of the business, so only the finest raw materials are selected, and great care and attention to detail is given to the manufacturing process.
The team realises that good customer service is also important, so it offers a friendly and helpful service across the whole business, along with impressive lead times of typically 10 to 14 days.
Dreamworks’ Superior and Premium divans are offered with platform top or sprung bases in a range of fabrics and a choice of storage options, including an ottoman. On certain models, guest bed options are available. To offer flexibility to its customers, special size options are available on the divans and mattresses, as well as the standard ones.
With over 50 mattresses to choose from in a range of sizes, including the Natural collection, the Berkeley pillowtop, a natural latex range, and mattresses specifically for adjustable beds, the range offered by Dreamworks Beds is impressive. The business also offers clients the opportunity to promote their own brand with fully customised mattress labels, using the client’s logo and brand identity.
To complete its bed offering, Dreamworks Beds offers a selection of upholstered bedsteads which incorporate a platform style mattress support surface as standard, however an ottoman insert or sprung edge insert can be supplied within these frames.
The upholstered bedsteads, along with their other upholstered products, are available in an extensive range of fabrics which ensures there is something to suit all tastes and styles of interior. For those who prefer divans, there is a range of headboards, offering a floor standing
or strut option. Upholstered blanket boxes are also available to give coordinated storage.
Dreamworks Beds’ sofa bed collection includes a range of styles and sizes to suit different requirements, from the Chesterfield-inspired Montrose with its scroll arms and deep buttoning, to the Milano with its innovative mechanism for a quick and easy opening action.
Spring interior mattresses are offered as standard on the sofa beds, with the option to upgrade to Visco or pocket spring on most models. Accompanying sofas, chairs and love seats are available to offer a coordinated look to a room, along with footstools on some of the ranges. There is also a choice of occasional chairs for use around the home.
To drive the business forward, fresh product and business development is being led by the new management team, Guy Miller, MD, and Stuart Page, sales director. The team is currently working hard developing new sofa beds to expand their collection still further.
Stuart says: “To add breadth to our range, we are introducing ones with a more modern look to suit contemporary interiors. We are also developing new upholstered bedsteads which will offer more versatility, with the option of platform, ottomans and adjustable bases.”
Dreamworks Beds is a member of the National Bed Federation, and is looking forward to exhibiting at the Bed Show again this year, on stand K50.
The company will be presenting the full breadth of its catalogue, displaying a range of divans, bedsteads, mattresses, headboards and sofa beds, including some new products.

The Vogue Beds Group has added a new model, Helix, into its portfolio.
Vogue expands its offering
The cleverly-designed spring in the Vogue’s Helix model is receptive to individual body weights and quickly adapts and adjusts accordingly to provides an equal sleeping surface for two people.
Not only does this create a softer feel on the outer edges but it provides a support zone in the middle to reduce partner disturbance and roll together.
The Helix spring also means that there is no need for different spring counts. Traditional pocket springs are sold on the basis that a 2000 Pocket spring is firmer than a 1500 and a 1500 is firmer than a 1000, but this intelligent spring unit is able to adapt to individual sleeping surfaces.
Vogue will be presenting the new Helix models at this year’s Bed Show. Visitors will find the company on stand K40.

Harrison Spinks, one of Great Britain’s most established and innovative bed makers, is set to launch a unique new range of mattresses at the Bed Show.
Harrison Spinks goes hybrid
Hybed is a new range of hybrid mattresses from Harrison Spinks, which will feature a combination of mattress components. Each of these mattresses will combine a natural sleeping surface – some of which is sourced from Harrison Spinks’ own 300-acre farm in Yorkshire – with layers of the company’s leading patented pocket spring technology, latex and memory foam to offer a premium sleeping experience.
This unique formula aims to transform the meaning of hybrid in the mattress industry as Harrison Spinks poises itself to disrupt hybrid beds in their current guise with a truly hybrid mattress.
Simon Spinks, MD of Harrison Spinks, explains: “Our continuous innovation, quest to become ever more vertically integrated and
Hybed utilises natural materials from Harrison Spinks’ own farm
mission to change the way the world sleeps by being the leaders in sustainable mattress and comfort innovation has inspired the launch of our latest range.
“The development of a truly new hybrid mattress will also allow us to establish Harrison Spinks in a very different sector of the market compared to our current Harrison and Somnus ranges. Headed up by sales director, Steve Truswell, we’ll be looking to engage with both new and existing retailers at the NBF Bed Show to establish this exciting new range with independent bed shops.”

Say to the first truly hybrid mattress.
We all know a great mattress is key to a great night’s sleep. That’s why some have memory foam, for pressure relief. Some have pocket springs, for support. Some have micro coils, for comfort. And some have natural fillings to wick away moisture.
That’s when we got thinking. If each of those is comfy on its own, what happens if we put them all together?
Introducing hybed. Mattresses that take all the best technology out there, and put it into one. The ultimate in materials, to create the ultimate in comfort.
Say hy to hybed, the hybrid mattress.

Duvalay will launch the Rosalia collection at the Bed Show, which will offer retailers an affordable, mid-market collection that sits alongside the Devey premium mattresses.
Duvalay targets the middle of the market
Featuring an initial three mattresses, the Rosalia collection will continue to offer retailers a sense of luxury through its artisan bed making techniques and use of only the finest natural materials.
The idea behind Rosalia is to offer consumers quality mattresses, with a premium look and feel but at a price point that is attractive to first-time buyers through to house shares and families. As the premium mattress within the collection, it is made using labour-intensive techniques including hand side-stitched borders and features layers of wool and cashmere.
The Portland has 1500 pocket springs, along with features such as hand side-stitched borders and opulent layers of wool and cashmere. Duvalay has also developed an anti roll-off edge support that features on the Portland.
Finally, Alba Ortho makes up the final mattress in the collection and features 1200 edge-supporting pocket springs. Designed to give extra orthopaedic back support, Alba Ortho also features British pure new wool fillings, as well as the anti roll-off edge support that Duvalay has developed.
All mattresses in the collection are easy care no turn mattresses, a key differentiator to the Hilary Devey Collection. Buyers and retailers are invited to join Hilary and the team on Duvalay’s stand – C20 – at the Bed Show.

Highgrove Beds Group
Highgrove Beds Group celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Following rapid year-on-year growth, the company now has a turnover in excess of £20m and employs 185 people.
Highgrove Beds maintains momentum
Highgrove Beds’ 20-acre Liversedge site has benefitted from major investment totaling over £3m since its acquisition in 2015 and is now one of the UK’s biggest and most efficient bed manufacturing facilities. In the past year alone, the final phase of the site development has seen a further £1m invested in a new 25,000ft² warehouse extension with the building of a further 50,000ft² of manufacturing space set for completion.
These new facilities will enable the company to reach its target of doubling its turnover in the next three to five years and maintain its impressive customer service in delivering 98% of all orders within seven days via its FasterSleep nationwide Express Delivery service. Historically, Highgrove was seen as a value brand, mainly targeting the budget end of the market and finding it difficult to penetrate the mid to up-market sectors.
The strategic business and marketing objectives became clear –create a seamless portfolio of brands enabling Highgrove to take on the well-established manufacturers with clear differentials in specification and brand positioning.
Highgrove has now successfully completed phase one of this plan, with three distinct brands, each with their own identities and product stories now launched under the Highgrove Beds Group umbrella and all will feature in the group’s biggest presence yet at this year’s Bed Show on stand F40 – F50.

Shakespeare Beds, based in the Midlands, has been handcrafting mattresses and divan beds for 30 years.
Shakespeare Beds caters to retail and hospitality sectors
Taking pride in the quality of its products, covering open coil, pocket sprung and encapsulated mattresses, Shakespeare Beds offers a wide choice, prompt delivery and competitive price points for its customers.
A regular exhibitor at the Bed Show, this year Shakespeare Beds is presenting classic, high performing models as well as new 5000, 7000 and 10,000 Pocket Sprung options.
In addition, Shakespeare Beds will introduce its 2017 range of Protected Care mattresses, aimed at both retailers, hoteliers and guest house managers.
The Protected Care collection follows months of research and testing to develop new and positive solutions against mattress staining and dust mite prevention for UK mattress and bed products.
Shakespeare Beds has worked alongside Staingard UK and Sanitized of Switzerland, both long standing pioneers in the treatment and maintenance of home furnishing fabrics.
Staingard delivers treatments which successfully inhibit staining to mattresses, upholstered bed frames and headboards from everyday hazards such as perspiration and other bodily fluids, as well as accidental spillage from drinks, oils and the like.
In addition to the treatment itself, customers enjoy a five-year product warranty which can be extended to include cover for structural protection.
Sanitized fabrics involve a treated fabric process that dramatically disrupts the food chain of house dust mites, resulting in mattresses and beds remaining free of house dust mites and their allergens, reducing the negative side effects that presently impact allergy sufferers.
The Protective Care collection is available to retail and hospitality sectors
The Protective Care mattresses follow months of research and testing
Independent assessments have been conducted by Allergy UK’s science director on the Sanitized treatment with its benefits receiving firm approval from this consumer body.
Sanitized fabrics also provide effectiveness against MRSA and E. coli, are dermatologically tested, Bluesign approved and accepted for OEKOTEX Standard 100.
The Protective Care mattresses offer real and positive opportunities for retailers looking for strong product features that give their customers new, unique and solid benefits, on top of their natural expectations for mattress comfort and support.

Kaymed has over a century’s expertise at the forefront of sleep science and is a leading innovator of some of the UK’s only patented temperature-regulating materials for mattresses.
Kaymed keeps up with technological advancements
With an ethos of innovation and never imitation, Kaymed will be introducing the new Therma-Phase+ range at the forthcoming Bed Show. Therma-Phase+ is a pressure-relieving high density material, containing unique patented phase-change crystals and copper particles, and is manufactured in house.
The phase-change crystals work by constantly absorbing and releasing body heat to maintain the ideal sleep surface temperature.
The copper infusion works as a fast conductor, quickly moving heat to and from the mattress surface as required.
Therma-Phase+ is the only material able to maintain sleep surface temperature available in the UK bedding market and can redistribute heat far faster than all other foams -which must rely on the poor conductivity of the material used to disperse the heat.
The range will include both pocket sprung and all foam mattresses, with traditional drawer-divan or low profile base on leg options. Finally, the range will now have an extended colour
range with Denim and Pebble colourways added for 2018.
Visitors will also be able to try Response Gel, a fusion of Kaymed’s exclusive instant response open cell material and patented MicroSupport Gel Beads. This unique combination delivers the feel of latex combined with cooling gel technology, for a scientifically proven cooler, smarter and more comfortable sleep. Response Gel is one of the most advanced instant feel materials to enter the UK market, offering pressure relief and temperature redistribution.
Finally, the Kaymed Mighty Bed range will be on display. This brand has become one of the UK’s only premium branded firmer feel offerings. The range has proved to be fruitful for Kaymed’s stockists, garnering repeat business. Mighty Bed has a reinforced spring system and extra-strong divan base giving it a durability level reflected in its divan set 15-year guarantee.
Kaymed will be exhibiting on stand H20 at the Bed Show.

Carpenter brings foam innovations to the Bed Show
Renowned as a pioneer in foam bedding products, Carpenter’s stand (hall 2, stand C1) at this year’s Bed Show will be packed full of inspiration for those looking for something new to offer consumers in the coming year.
Offering effortless comfort technology, Carpenter’s new Aurora Foam meets demand for consumer products that provide bounce-back combined with greater airflow,
which can result in a more comfortable night’s sleep. New this year will be a collection of Aurora Foam mattresses each offering a slightly different feel and sleep experience.
Gillian Finch, Carpenter’s national sales manager for consumer products in the UK, says: “Aurora Foam delivers great bounceback performance and superior support that is capturing the industry’s attention. Aurora Foam is not temperature sensitive and offers greater resilience than standard foams. This in turn delivers superior support, cushioning the body in sensitive areas and facilitating ease of movement.
“Recent independent tests have shown that the Aurora Foam’s open cell structure delivers a fourfold increase in air-flow through the foam when compared to visco-elastic
memory foam.
“Unlike memory foam, the unique properties of Aurora Foam enable it to effortlessly support the body and provide comfort whilst at the same time delivering greater breathability to ensure a good night’s sleep.
“It’s a product that is going from strength to strength and by expanding our mattress collection we hope to cater for more customers.”
Carpenter has also added new mattresses, pillows and toppers to its sleep better range, all manufactured in the UK. The popular sleep better ISO-cool pillows featuring Outlast technology will be on show with two variants to try – a cotton/ Outlast fabric reversible option and a pillow that features Coolmax, a moisture management yarn.
Also on display will be its Cluster pillow, Curved Moulded Core pillow for enhanced shoulder support, Curved Neck Roll, Solo – a fibre/moulded combo and its sleep better 100% cotton pillow.
In toppers, there will be two new fivezone profiles offering different levels of comfort. The six-zone topper and five-zone Dream Coil will also be available to sample.
