Planning and Development Housing Demand Survey Congratulations Darren McDonough Congratulations to our very own Darren McDonough on his Operator of the Year Award! The Alberta Water and Wastewater Operations Association (AWWOA) is an association that works with Operators, Educators and Regulators to ensure that people working in this field are able to obtain proper training, certification and continual growth within the industry. Darren now has 10 years’ experience in this field, and holds certification in all 4 disciplines: Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment. Darren was recognized for this hard work and dedication for the Town of Fox Creek and the numerous complex issues faced in our community all while ensuring the safety of our drinking water.

Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat 11:00 am - 4:00 pm Tues. & Thurs. Noon - 4:00 p.m. Closed Sunday & Holidays

The Town has kick-started our first Comprehensive Community Housing Demand Assessment Program. A survey will be conducted from April to May throughout the entire residential population upon the respondents’ profile, current housing arrangements, and future housing preferences. The data collected from this survey, together with other existing market information, will then be compiled and analyzed in depth to create a key source of reference for all kinds of housing planning and development projects in Fox Creek.

To ensure that we reach a representative sample of all the residents, the online survey will be provided to the public through multiple media - including the Town’s website, Facebook page, newsletter, mailings - as well as advertised through the upcoming community events. We encourage everyone to participate to have their voices heard. Property Info Map To increase accessibility of geographic information to local residents as well as interested parties, our upgraded online map application (MuniSight) will be available to the public starting in April. Go to https://foxcreek.ca/planning-and-development/ for easy access to the new map application and find out more!

during 2017. The Town’s reserves are slightly underfunded at year end, but that anomaly should self-correct once the debt is drawn on.

Council has directed Administration to continue the first come first serve basis for seasonal campground lot purchasing.

The Recreation Committee is currently looking into a couple new locations for ball diamonds. Council will be reviewing all the information from the Recreation Committee as well as from Administration to help make a decision.

Council awarded For-Site Environmental the FireSmart Contract (Forest Resource Improvement Association project FFP 17-34) for the 2018 season. Work is to be completed by June 30, 2018. This contract will be for the work on the vegetation around the Town boundaries. This helps assist in protecting our Community from wildfires.

Council has given Administration direction to enforce Bylaw 778-2016 which regulates Boarding Houses. In the past Administration has been more lenient on the Boarding Houses due to the lack of available accommodations.

The accounting firm of Shoemaker, Viney & Friesen provided a clean audit opinion to Council during the financial statement presentation done on March 26, 2018. Books are being well maintained and testing done on records provided satisfactory results in all areas. Operation revenue of $11,173,061 is comprised of $3,784,277 generated through property taxation, with the remainder generated from government transfers, user fees, rental revenue, franchise fees, penalties and interest plus some land sales. Operating expenses for the same period totaled $8,625,196, with the generated surplus flowing over to assist with funding capital projects. Construction in progress for 2017 totaled $22,336,213 and capital acquisitions totaled $2,466,448. Thanks to the funding partners on the capital projects, administration was able to not withdraw any debt

Council would like to thank SemCAMS and the Town Administration for taking quick action to ensure the arena was re-opened for the final weekend tournaments and farewell.

Mr. Palmer who sat as Chairman of the Town’s Board of Administrators, was a committed hockey coach, and ded dicated parent. He was instrumental in getting this arena built. The Co ommunity was saddened with his passing on September 16, 1976. To re ecognize this community minded man the arena was dedicated to him on November 18, 1978 becoming the Derald Palmer Memorial Arena. This building has been the hub of the commun nity, no matter what the season. Residents have watched or participated d in a myriad of events. From hockey games to figure skating show cas ses. It has hosted rodeos, roller derby’s, garage sales, scout kit car races, staff training, summer camps, steak and lobster dinners and Graduation Dances. Of those who were there, who can forget the Kingsman Beerfests and the Lions Club 333’s, both highlights of the social year. y No matter the activity there was always one thing consistent, yo ou could always feel the heartbeat of the community and of Derald Palm mer. We are now on the cusp of a new era for Fox Creek. The opening g of the new recreation facility will see the arrival of the long awaited indoor pool, training facilities, gymnasium and a full sized ice surface with appropriate changing facilities. Today after 16,211 days of being the pillar of the community the Derald Palmer Arena is passing the torch. The memory m of Derald Palmer will be preserved with the moving of the currrent memorial plaque to the new venue. Thank you, Fox Creek, and thank you Derald Pa almer Arena.

The BIG Melt Public Works Staff have been working to keep up with the melt by steaming out culverts, removing ice dams in the ditches and clearing catch basins. Thankfully nature has been on our side and only minor issues have been reported thus far. Transfer Station & Landfill Please note that there are certain items that we can accept at the Waste Transfer Station which include: cardboard (must be clean, dry and have any plastic removed), appliances CONTAINING refrigerant, Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), scrap tires, fluorescent light bulbs, empty automotive fluid containers, paint, electronic waste, batteries (dry cell and automotive), clean fill as well as domestic garbage. If you are doing a renovation or major clean up this would not qualify as domestic waste, therefore these items must be taken to the appropriate landfill. The Town of Fox Creek has a Class III landfill which accepts construction and demolition materials, scrap metal, wood, appliances WITHOUT refrigerant. The Greenview Regional Waste Management Commission operates a land fill near Little Smoky which can accept the remainder of waste. Lastly, we will accept clay, concrete in pieces less than 30cm at the largest point, gravel and scrap metal at the landfill. No organics or marginal material.
