Our mission is to build community through the delivery of exceptional parks, open spaces, trails, facilities, programs and services.
A letter from our Parks & Recreation Director, Luke Bolinger:
Every season brings new milestones, whether it’s winning awards for our parks, celebrating the achievements of our staff, or setting attendance records at community events. While we’re sad to see summer go, winter and spring bring their own exciting opportunities for fun and engagement here in Erie.
We are especially thrilled to see the Erie Ice Rink return for its second year at its new home in Coal Creek Park. Whether you’re enjoying public skate or attending one of the many special events, we know this will be a highlight of the season. And don’t forget the Erie Community Park sledding hill, which promises thrills on those perfect snowy days!
As mentioned in our Summer 2024 guide, we’re well underway updating the Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails Strategic Plan, and we’re excited to explore the possibilities of a new Performing Arts Center through a feasibility study. We’ve partnered with DTJ Design to lead the process, and we look forward to connecting with the community to take our department to new heights.
As the holiday season approaches, we encourage you to join in the joy and festivities happening all around Erie. Wishing you and your family a wonderful season filled with warmth, laughter, and community spirit!

Erie Parks & Recreation strives to provide a positive, safe, and fun environment to allow children of all skill levels the opportunity to play. We hope to create an environment that balances teamwork, commitment, hard work, sportsmanship, and competition. We provide 2-3 contacts per week with enthusiastic parent volunteer coaches, and hope that at the conclusion of the season your child learned about the game, improved skills, and wants to play again.
For a majority of our leagues, we classify our league offerings by age. Unless otherwise noted in each program/league’s description, the age calculation date for all youth sports programs/leagues will be calculated by the first league contact day.
• The “U” before the age number stands for “under” (e.g., U9 stands for ages under 9).
• The “U” after the age number stands for “and under” (e.g., 9U stands for ages 9 and under).
It is against Erie Parks & Recreation Youth Sports Leagues policy for players to concurrently participate in/on any same sport competitive league/team during any part of our respective recreational sports season. By registering and participating in any of our youth sports leagues, you acknowledge that you and the participant are abiding by this policy.
With that said, we understand that Erie Parks & Recreation sports leagues do not fit everyone’s needs. We have compiled the following list of local organizations if you are looking for a more competitive offering for your child. This list is not all-inclusive and is intended to provide a few options to begin your research.

TreeKeeper® is tree inventory management software provided by the Davey Resource Group, specifically designed to help manage urban forests. Town Forestry Staff began utilizing TreeKeeper® in 2024 to survey and manage public trees.
What does it tell us about trees in Erie’s public parks?
Each August, public park trees are surveyed by Forestry staff to collect fresh data on diameter, species, condition, and maintenance needs. This valuable information helps guide management priorities such as planting, pruning, and addressing insect and disease issues.
Don’t Forget!

Learn about specific trees in our public parks. See a beautiful tree in a public park and want to plant the same species in your yard? Use TreeKeeper® to locate the tree and discover its species.
Educate yourself on the Eco-Benefit of trees. TreeKeeper® utilizes i-Tree® tools developed by the USDA Forest Service to quantify the environmental benefits that trees provide.
• Carbon Dioxide Uptake
• Storm Water Mitigation
• Air Pollution Removal
Example: The 928 trees in Erie Community Park sequestered 5,921 pounds of carbon, kept 3,776 gallons of storm water from reaching storm drains, and removed 2,821 ounces of ozone from our air over the last year alone!
Did you know our Parks Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance of ~4,000 inventoried trees in Town Parks and Facilities, including unusual species such as Magnolia, Hardy Rubber, and Amur Cork trees?
Maintaining street trees adjacent to private property (homes, businesses, schools, HOAs) is the responsibility of the adjacent property owner. These publicly owned, privately maintained trees are not currently displayed in TreeKeeper®. For additional information, please visit erieco.gov/TreeKeeper
With TreeKeeper®, easily locate and explore trees around you using the interactive map!
