Connecting you to FUN!

Town of Erie | Parks & Recreation

Our mission is to build community through the delivery of exceptional parks, open spaces, trails, facilities, programs and services.

A letter from our Director of Parks & Recreation, Luke Bolinger:

Summer in Colorado has always meant a welcome shift in the weather: when the winters get a bit too chilly, summer provides that perfect balance of sunshine and warmth. I hope you enjoyed the brisk season and our winter activities. Now, as we enter our busiest time of year, I invite you to make the most of our parks, trails, and warm-weather programs—and to get involved with us, too!

You may have seen our “Connecting You to Fun” Playbook (erieco.us/Playbook), which outlines our department’s strategy for parks, recreational facilities and programming, open space, and trails. With our community growing at a record pace, we’re dedicated to meeting the needs of both our current residents and those who will soon call Erie home. In addition to the Playbook, we’re updating local playgrounds, designing and constructing new

trails, and improving our operations – exploring innovations like robotic field painters and mowers to help staff stay efficient and focused.

We are proud to be hosting a UCI Pump Track World Championship Qualifier at the Revolution Pump Track at Erie Community Park – one of three in the United States! We hope you can come out and see riders on Saturday, May 3 for their chance at the World Championships in Monthey, Switzerland later this fall. Additional details on p. 14!

I hope you’ll take full advantage of everything we have to offer this summer. Whether you’re using our trails, enjoying a community event, or simply taking in the beautiful weather, we look forward to seeing you out there!

The Erie PROSTPlaybook

Shaping the Future of Parks, Recreation, Open Space & Trails

The Erie PROST Playbook is an update to the Town’s Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails (PROST) Strategic Plan, last revised in 2016. As Erie continues to grow, this Playbook will serve as a roadmap for the next decade, ensuring high-quality

services, programs, and facilities for the expanding community. This project is happening alongside a feasibility study for a Performing Arts Center (PAC) to explore the potential for a dedicated arts and cultural venue in Erie.

Why It Matters: The Playbook will

Establish a comprehensive Strategic Plan for PROST services.

Ensure programs, facilities, and amenities are balanced and equitably distributed.

Align with National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) standards.

Incorporate community engagement to address residents’ priorities and needs.

Provide clear implementation strategies, financial planning, and a prioritization schedule for the next decade.

Youth Sports

Recreational Sports Philosophy

We value Fun, Safety, Respect, Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Learning, Community, Leadership, and Integrity in our youth sports programs! We strive to create an environment where children of all skill levels and experience feel welcomed to play.

We provide 2-3 contacts per week with enthusiastic parent volunteer coaches, and hope that at the conclusion of the season your child learned about the game, improved skills, and wants to play again.

Recreational Sports Age Classifications

For a majority of our leagues, we classify our league offerings by age. Unless otherwise noted in each program/league’s description, the age calculation date for all youth sports programs/leagues will be calculated by the first league contact day.

• The “U” before the age number stands for “under” (e.g., U9 stands for ages under 9).

• The “U” after the age number stands for “and under” (e.g., 9U stands for ages 9 and under).

Our Policy Competitive Sports

It is against Erie Parks & Recreation Youth Sports Leagues policy for players to concurrently participate in/on any same sport competitive league/team during any part of our respective recreational sports season. By registering and participating in any of our youth sports leagues, you acknowledge that you and the participant are abiding by this policy.

With that said, we understand that Erie Parks & Recreation sports leagues do not fit everyone’s needs. We have compiled the following list of local organizations if you are looking for a more competitive offering for your child. This list is not allinclusive and is intended to provide a few options to begin your research.

What’s happening at Schofield Farm?

In 2018, the Town adopted the Schofield Farm & Open Space Master Plan, which through extensive public engagement, provides the vision for the historic property. Schofield Farm Open Space encompasses 26.6 acres of farmland, wetlands, wildlife habitat and the historic farmstead. The property is adjacent to Erie Lake and Strieby Open Space resulting in over 70 acres of contiguous open space land on the east side of Erie spanning from 111th Street to Hwy. 287.

The vision for the property includes trails, educational and play nodes, picnic areas, community gardens, and historic renovation of the homestead buildings activating the large barn into a rentable event space. In addition to activating the property to be enjoyed by the community, agricultural production will continue to occur along with wetland and habitat preservation.

Site Improvements

Site Improvements such as parking, trails, landscaping & irrigation, lighting, drainage & infrastructure, signage, and trash enclosures will occur in phases as the site develops. The first phase of site improvements will be under construction in 2025.

Barn & Historic Building Renovations

Renovation of the historic farmhouse is complete, and the Town is moving forward on renovation of the large barn and other structures. All 3-levels of the barn will be utilized with a variety of flexible spaces that can be used for community events and private rentals.

Makerspace

The Town is partnering with the Makerspace at Schofield Farm in Erie to transform the Quonset hut at Schofield into a place where members can participate in a variety of crafts such as woodworking, ceramics, fiber arts, printmaking, laser engraving, 3D printing and more. Renovation of the Quonset hut will be under construction in 2025.
