Connecting you to FUN!

Town of Erie | Parks & Recreation

Our mission is to build community through the delivery of exceptional parks, open spaces, trails, facilities, programs and services.

I am thrilled to write my first letter for Erie Parks & Recreation’s Fall Program Guide as Director. Over the past six years, I have had the privilege of serving this department in various capacities, and I am now excited to lead our dedicated team in this new role.

Our commitment to building community through exceptional parks, open spaces, trails, facilities, programs, and services remains unwavering. This fall, our staff has worked tirelessly to bring you a diverse range of events and programs, including exciting new activities within our Therapeutic Recreation program.

A letter from our Director of Parks & Recreation, Luke Bolinger: Luke

As Erie continues to grow, it is crucial that we continually assess and update our guiding documents to reflect our community’s evolving needs. Therefore, we will be undertaking an update to our Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails (PROST) Plan this year, which will steer our department’s efforts for the next 5-7 years.

Thank you for your continued support of our parks and recreation initiatives. I look forward to seeing you out and about in our wonderful community!

Youth Sports

Recreational Sports Philosophy

Erie Parks & Recreation strives to provide a positive, safe, and fun environment to allow children of all skill levels the opportunity to play. We hope to create an environment that balances teamwork, commitment, hard work, sportsmanship, and competition. We provide 2-3 contacts per week with enthusiastic parent volunteer coaches, and hope that at the conclusion of the season your child learned about the game, improved skills, and wants to play again.

Recreational Sports Age Classifications

For a majority of our leagues, we classify our league offerings by age. Unless otherwise noted in each program/league’s description, the age calculation date for all youth sports programs/leagues will be calculated by the first league contact day.

• The “U” before the age number stands for “under” (e.g., U9 stands for ages under 9).

• The “U” after the age number stands for “and under” (e.g., 9U stands for ages 9 and under).

Our Policy Competitive Sports

It is against Erie Parks & Recreation Youth Sports Leagues policy for players to concurrently participate in/on any same sport competitive league/team during any part of our respective recreational sports season. By registering and participating in any of our youth sports leagues, you acknowledge that you and the participant are abiding by this policy.

With that said, we understand that Erie Parks & Recreation sports leagues do not fit everyone’s needs. We have compiled the following list of local organizations if you are looking for a more competitive offering for your child. This list is not all-inclusive and is intended to provide a few options to begin your research.

Therapeutic Recreation

Hello, my name is Ronja Vaitaitis!

I am the new Coordinator for Youth Contracted Programs and Therapeutic Recreation Programs for all ages. I am so excited to be a part of the Town of Erie Parks & Recreation Department and work with you all to begin to provide therapeutic/adaptive recreation opportunities.

I was born and raised in Littleton, Colorado, then made my way to the Pacific Northwest to study Therapeutic Recreation at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Recreation has always played a key role in my life, and discovering opportunities to make it more accessible to all has become my passion.

My degree then led me to get my foundations in adaptive recreation through an organization in Billings, Montana. From whitewater rafting to soccer camps to social programs, I learned many ways to create therapeutic/adaptive opportunities.

Now as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, I am happy to be back in Colorado and work with you all to create opportunities for all to enjoy the benefits of recreation, friendships, community, and FUN!

Please email Ronja Vaitaitis at youthandtr@erieco.gov for questions regarding these programs.
