TOWN OF DANVILLE
QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER

Message from the Town Council

Longer days and warm evenings bring a slower pace, time to relax, and moments to enjoy what the season has to offer. We are excited to share all the great events coming your way including family favorites like Kidchella, Music in the Park, Moonlight Movies, and the new free concert series Music at the Plaza. These gatherings bring neighbors together and make summertime in Danville truly shine. Learn more about these events on Page 4.
Summer here is not just about entertainment, as it is also an important time for paving and maintenance projects that help keep our roads and infrastructure in top shape. These essential improvements are completed every summer to maintain the beauty and safety of our Town. Learn more about this summer’s projects on Pages 6 and 7.
We also want to share some big news: After four decades of dedicated service, Town Manager Joe Calabrigo has retired. While we are sad to see him depart, we are pleased to welcome Tai Williams as our new Town Manager. Tai has worked for the town for nearly 30 years and has been a valued leader in our community. We look forward to working with her as she steps into this important role. Learn more about Tai on Page 2.
Thank you for being part of what makes Danville such a wonderful place to live, work, and play. We are excited to see you around Town this summer.

FUNDING FOR PARKS, STREET LIGHTS APPROVED BY VOTE
Danville property owners approved a new Landscaping and Lighting Assessment District (LLAD No. 2025-1), with 57.1% voting in favor of additional funding for parks, street lights, landscaping and public facilities. Voting closed May 20 and the Town Council adopted the new district assessment structure June 3. The new district assessment is expected to provide about $4.5 million in restricted funds toward maintenance and operational costs, which totaled $4.8 million in fiscal year 2023/24.
Following a public process that included a detailed engineer’s report to align assessments with the specific property benefit, ballot tabulation was conducted publicly May 21. The new district assessments will be submitted to the County Tax Assessor for the 2025/26 property tax roll.
This dedicated funding benefits the community by enhancing community safety, appearance, and recreation spaces. It also reduces reliance on general fund transfers and includes a capped escalator to keep pace with inflationary costs, supporting long-term financial sustainability. LEADERSHIP WITH PURPOSE:
THE CIVIC PARTNERSHIP BEHIND DANVILLE’S PROGRESS
Balancing tradition and innovation is a constant challenge in local government. Danville has weathered many changes since its 1982 incorporation, growing and changing while keeping an eye on the history and spirit of the Town. One key figure in managing that evolution has been Town Manager Joe Calabrigo. With a background in city planning, he’s always looked to Danville’s future, even as he began planning his retirement after 32 years — the longest continually serving city or town manager in the western U.S. One might say that planning process started in 2017 with the selection of Tai Willams as Assistant Town Manager.
After first joining the Town in 1996 as a land use planner, Tai began taking on increasing responsibility in Town management. In fact, Joe and Tai followed similar paths, filling leadership roles across the organization and developing a deep understanding of all aspects of local government. But that’s not where the similarities end.
Joe and Tai both graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with degrees in city planning, both are longtime Danville residents, and both have decades of service to the Town, following brief stints in the private sector. They have both worked on pivotal projects that have
shaped the Town, and both believe that good government is nimble, adapting to change while putting residents first.
They have worked together for almost Joe’s entire tenure as Town Manager, and their work in planning and in leadership roles have resulted in major Town initiatives. Joe has played a key role in developing the original and two subsequent General Plans, as well as both Downtown Master Plans — guiding documents for how Danville has evolved as a community. Tai launched enterprise technologies such as online permitting and civic engagement platforms, and enhanced safety on public streets by securing more than $100 million in transportation funding for the TRAFFIX school bus program and I-680 Auxiliary Lanes project.
With a personnel transition this weighty, continuity of leadership and service is key. When the Town Council began its search for a new Town Manager, the bestqualified person to lead with foresight and community spirit was someone shaped by decades of public service and mentored by one of California’s longestserving city managers. On July 1, Tai Willams became Danville’s fourth Town Manager, rooted in tradition and looking ahead with the Town vision in mind: Small town atmosphere, outstanding quality of life.

SIGN UP NOW FOR TEEN CENTERS
As the new school year approaches, now is the perfect time to register for Teen Centers — safe, supervised, and fun after-school programs designed for middle school students. Located at Charlotte Wood, Diablo Vista, and Los Cerros middle schools, the Teen Centers offer a welcoming space for students to relax, socialize, and participate in a variety of activities each afternoon. With limited spots available, early registration is highly encouraged to secure a place for the 2025–26 school year. For details and registration, visit www.danville.ca.gov/recguide.
BOATS & RVS: GETTING READY FOR FUN
One sure sign that summer is here is seeing a boat or RV being loaded up for an adventure. While boats and RVs must be screened from public view if being stored, they can be out for temporary loading and unloading. For RVs, residents can obtain and display a 3-day temporary parking permit from the Danville Police Department, which will allow the owner time to load and/or unload. The permit must be displayed in the front left corner of the windshield.
REBATES STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADU CONSTRUCTION
Danville homeowners still have the opportunity to take advantage of generous rebates through the Senate District 7 ADU Accelerator Program. With $79,500 allocated specifically for Danville residents, funds are available on a firstcome, first-served basis to support the construction of new accessory dwelling units (ADUs). Qualifying homeowners may receive up to $7,500 in rebates — or up to $15,000 for deed-restricted units reserved for low-income households for 20 years. Eligible ADUs must be 1,000 square feet or smaller. To learn more or apply, visit www.danville.ca.gov/adu.
GETTING PERMITS FOR SUMMER PROJECTS
Why do summer home projects from pools to outdoor kitchens need building permits? Securing a building permit before the start of your renovation allows the Town to ensure that your project is built under the current State of California building codes and that the proposed project meets the minimum state mandated health and safety standards. If you are planning on doing work to your home and have questions regarding whether your project will require permits, feel free to call the Permit Center at 925-314-3330.
SIDEWALK TALK
Did you know that homeowners are responsible for maintaining sidewalks along their property? Each homeowner can do their part to keep neighborhoods safe and walkable by repairing and maintaining their sidewalks. To report a concern, visit www.danville.ca.gov/danvilleconnect.
SOUNDS LIKE FUN: RE-DISCOVER DOWNTOWN
Summer is magical in Downtown Danville, and there's a little more sparkle with the completion of new performance spaces, gathering areas, and safety improvements along Hartz Avenue. The Downtown Master Plan Catalyst Project is the Town’s more than $4 million investment in the community, and the new atmosphere Downtown is drawing visitors, musicians, and new businesses (Page 11).
The hub of activity is the new Prospect Park Plaza at East Prospect and Hartz avenues, with live musical performances organized by the Town through September 6 (Page 5). This unique public park space is also perfect for a cool summer night when you can’t decide where to eat – everyone can pick up their favorites and gather for al fresco dinner at the plaza.
All along Hartz Avenue, pedestrian-focused safety improvements to intersections and new streetlights make strolling a breeze, even at night. Enjoy this investment in our community this summer while dropping in at your favorite shop or discovering a new restaurant.

RETURNS TO THE TOWN GREEN
THIS JULY
Danville’s popular summer performance series, Kidchella, continues this July with a lively afternoon designed especially for young families. Held in collaboration with the Danville Library, the next performance takes place July 16 on the Town Green and features the beloved children’s music group Octopretzel.
The event begins at 11:15 a.m. with storytime on the Town Green, followed by a musical performance at noon. After the show, families are invited to participate in arts and crafts from 12:30 to 1 p.m. A story walk and other family-friendly activities round out the experience, with the event concluding at 2 p.m.
Kidchella is free and open to the public. No preregistration is required — just bring a blanket and get ready for a fun-filled day of music, stories, and creativity.
Danville offers a wide array of free, family-friendly events that make it easy to enjoy the outdoors. From live music and outdoor movies to impressive car shows, there are plenty of ways to take in the fresh air and make the most of the season.

Downtown is also the spot for Music at the Plaza, a new offering at the recently developed Prospect Park Plaza. Stroll Downtown before the music starts at 4 p.m., select Fridays and Saturdays through September 6.
To close out the summer, two car shows are happening in Downtown Danville.
On September 7, the Hot Summer Sundays Car Show will feature a colorful display of classic and custom vehicles, drawing car enthusiasts from throughout the region.

The beloved Moonlight Movies series has returned to the Town Green this summer, offering classic and contemporary films under the stars. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., pre-movie activities provide added entertainment, with each feature beginning around 8 p.m., depending on the sunset. The upcoming features include Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs, and pick up movie snacks from local Danville eateries.

Live music lovers can look forward to two concert series this season. Music in the Park has returned with dynamic performances beginning at 6 p.m., including country artist George Ducas July 5 at Oak Hill Park, hard rock group Arcana Kings July 19 at the Town Green, and Maroon Vibes August 2 at the Town Green. Food trucks will be on site at Oak Hill Park, and there are plenty of Downtown dining options for the concerts on the Town Green.

On September 21, the Danville Concours d'Elegance will return, showcasing a remarkable collection of luxury, vintage, and performance automobiles. While you're Downtown, take time to stroll through the area, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, do a little shopping, and soak up the lively atmosphere these events bring to the heart of Danville.

Families, friends, and visitors alike are invited to enjoy the many ways Danville celebrates the season. Learn more online at www.danville.ca.gov/summer.

IN MINIATURE: A BIG CELEBRATION OF
SMALL-SCALE CREATIVITY
The Village Theatre Art Gallery invites art lovers of all ages to experience creativity in its most compact form. From July 12 through September 19, the gallery will present its 15th Annual Juried Exhibition: Art in Miniature
The exhibition features an impressive range of media all adhering to one creative constraint: Each piece must be approximately the size of a postcard or smaller. This limitation inspires artists to explore the power of detail and precision, and the result is a dynamic collection that captivates the imagination.
The community is invited to celebrate the opening of Art in Miniature during a reception July 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Village Theatre Art Gallery. Attendees will have the chance to meet some of the featured artists, enjoy light refreshments, and be among the first to view this extraordinary collection.
Whether you're a longtime supporter of the arts or simply curious to see how much emotion and expression can fit into a few square inches, Art in Miniature offers a unique and rewarding experience. Admission is free, and the exhibition is open during regular gallery hours.
DIABLO VISTA PARK PLAYGROUND RENOVATION UNDERWAY
Keeping Danville Moving:
HOW THE TOWN TAKES CARE OF OUR STREETS

Construction is now underway on the muchanticipated renovation of the Diablo Vista Park playground. The project began in May 2025 and is bringing exciting upgrades designed to create a more fun, inclusive, and welcoming space for all ages and abilities.
The new playground will feature updated equipment for both younger and older children, including slides, overhead climbers, steppers, musical instruments, swings, and other amenities. The design also includes accessible features to accommodate children with limited mobility.
Visitors can also look forward to shaded picnic areas with scenic views, game tables, benches throughout the play space, and a new drinking fountain with a bottle filler and pet water bowl. The project includes updated exercise equipment and fresh landscaping to complete the transformation.
This renovation reflects the Town's ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces and creating places where the entire community can gather and enjoy. Learn more at www.danvilletowntalks.org/ dvp.
With158 miles of roadway connecting Danville’s neighborhoods, parks, and businesses, maintaining safe and durable streets is a big job. That’s where the Town’s Pavement Management Program comes in — a multi-year effort to keep Danville driving, biking, and walking with ease.
Backed by an annual budget of approximately $3 million, the program focuses on analyzing pavement data, prioritizing maintenance and repairs based on road conditions, and allocating resources accordingly. In just the past nine months, 106 streets have been resurfaced, covering 15 miles of improvements, including concrete curb repairs and new pedestrian ramps.
Every two years, professional consultants inspect Danville roads and assign a
Pavement Condition Index (PCI) score from 1 to 100. Aiming for an average PCI of 70, the Town currently has a PCI of 81, one of the highest across Bay Area agencies.
There are three main types of maintenance: pavement rehabilitation, which involves replacing part of the road with new asphalt and upgrading curb ramps; slurry seal, a cost-effective treatment that adds a thin layer of asphalt to seal cracks and extend a road’s life; and rubberized cape seal, a two-step process combining chip seal and slurry. Danville’s careful planning helps stretch every maintenance dollar and keeps the community moving safely and smoothly. Learn more at www.danville.ca.gov/pavement.

DIABLO ROAD TRAIL PROJECT
Amajor step forward has been made for the Diablo Road Trail Project, representing the final link between Danville and Mount Diablo State Park. With final design plans complete, the Town is seeking construction bids and plans to begin work this fall.
This 0.9 mile paved trail will offer a safe and scenic route for cyclists, walkers, joggers, and other non-motorized users. Located along the south side of Diablo Road, from Fairway Drive to an access road approximately 400 feet west of Avenida Nueva, the proposed trail will connect the existing 0.5-mile Diablo Road Trail, also known as the Barbara Hale Trail, to the new 0.7-mile Class 1 (easy) trail being built as part of the Magee Preserve development.
One of the standout safety features of the project is a new high intensity activated crosswalk signal, known as a HAWK signal, that will be installed at Diablo Road and Fairway Drive. This pedestrianactivated signal will help trail users safely cross the road by stopping traffic when needed and connecting the new trail to the existing Barbara Hale Trail.
Existing Barbara
Existing Trail New Trail Segment
Constructing a trail in such a scenic and environmentally sensitive area presents unique challenges. The route will pass near Green Valley Creek and traverse hilly terrain, requiring careful engineering to protect the natural surroundings and ensure long-term stability. As an environmental safeguard, the project has been closely regulated and approved by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board. During construction,
there will be some temporary lane closures on Diablo Road, and the Town will provide advance notice to help minimize disruption.
As the community looks ahead to the start of construction, excitement is building for what this trail will bring — better connections, safer travel for pedestrians and cyclists, and even more ways to enjoy the outdoors in Danville.

GET TO KNOW YOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT THIS FALL
Ever wondered what it’s really like behind the scenes in law enforcement? This fall, the Danville Police Department offers two great opportunities to connect with local officers and learn more about public safety in our community.
On August 5, neighborhoods across Danville will come together for National Night Out. This nationwide event strengthens community spirit and builds bonds between residents and local law enforcement. Participating
neighborhoods must register their group through the National Night Out organization found at www.natw.org, and neighborhoods who would like a Danville police officer visit must register at www.danville.ca.gov/nno by July 21.
The Citizens Police Academy returns October 1, offering a hands-on, sevenweek program that gives participants an inside look at policing. Held Wednesday evenings with two Saturday sessions, the academy covers everything from
patrol procedures and investigations to crime scene processing and traffic enforcement. Space is limited, and applications are now being accepted for the fall interest list at www.danville.ca.gov/citizensacademy.
Whether you're curious about how police operate or just want to meet the officers who serve Danville, these events offer meaningful ways to connect and learn.

Social Host Ordinance:
THINK BEFORE YOU LET TEENS DRINK
As we continue into summer, many Danville families are planning graduation parties, backyard get-togethers, and warm-weather celebrations. While these events are meant to create fun memories, they can quickly become dangerous when teens and alcohol are involved. The Danville Police Department reminds the community that, under Danville Municipal Code Section 4-6.1 a-c, also known as the "social host" ordinance, adults can be held legally responsible if underage drinking occurs in their homes
or in spaces they rent, even if they did not personally provide the alcohol.
This ordinance places liability on parents, older siblings, or any adults who control the space where underage drinking takes place, whether they are present or not. It applies to private homes, rented venues, and hotel rooms. If there are at least five people under 21 at a gathering and even one is holding alcohol, it’s a violation that can lead to fines of up to $1,000 and possible citations for the adults responsible. Teens themselves may also be required to
appear at the Danville Juvenile Diversion Program in addition to facing possession charges.
Adults over 21 who purchase alcohol for younger friends or family members can also be held responsible if harm occurs. Before you host or help plan an event, take time to talk with your teen about the risks of underage drinking and the importance of making safe choices. By staying informed and proactive, we can help protect Danville’s youth and keep summer celebrations safe for everyone.
ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS: HIKES, HOOPS, & HOMETOWN TALENT

Open to ages 17 and up, Trail Mixers are a great way to stay fit while making new connections. Maps and directions are emailed prior to each outing, and pre-registration is required at www.danville.ca.gov/recguide.
