Teamwork, Know-How Deliver Holiday Planters

Readington News You may have noticed that over a dozen planters along Main Street in Whitehouse Station were all dressed up for the holidays. The Community Garden Club of Hunterdon County teamed up with the Beautification Committee of Whitehouse Station, with a helping hand from members of the Whitehouse Rescue Squad, to make the seasonal arrangements for the entire community to enjoy. The garden club meets at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Hall, Route 523, on the second Thursday of the month, except February and August. The next program meeting is Jan. 10 and features club member Judy Schoenherr who will demonstrate how to use dried flowers and botanicals to make decorative items. Refreshments are at 10:30 a.m., with the program at 11. For information call Linda at 908-705-7693. The mission of the Beautification Committee of Whitehouse Station is to enhance the beauty and appeal of the Main Street corridor. The Beautification Committee is a non-profit civic association whose goals will be accomplished through building partnerships with Readington Township, residents, community businesses, and organizations. Officers are Mary Ann Lacamera, Chair; Justina Ryan, Vice Chair; Julia Allen, Secretary; and Steve Fraebel, Treasurer. If you would like to donate your time and talents or partner with the committee, send an email to: bcwhitehousestation@ gmail.com.

Pictured are Brady Quintard (trumpet) and Joey Farrell (violin), music instructors for MOC. Both will perform with the Honors Performance Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House in Australia over the summer.

A Hunterdon Central Regional High School sophomore from Readington Township has created a charity that provides free music lessons to children in need. Joey Farrell and a group of 12 HCRHS music students founded the “Music Opportunity Community” (MOC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. They pair the free lessons with the gift of donated new or refurbished instruments. Students who progress receive these instruments to own. MOC musicians are teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, bass guitar, violin, viola, percussion, saxophone, French horn, trumpet and clarinet. “Everyone should have the opportunity to play music; not only to master an instrument but to also help with eye-hand coordination,

memory, motor skills,” Farrell said. “I am grateful for the lessons I’ve received and continue to take... The confidence cultivated by new musicians after a few quality lessons can be the seed of a life-long passion and hobby.” The MOC volunteers are eager to pass on all the benefits of their own musical experiences and seek students who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to take music lessons. If you know someone who could benefit from free music lessons reach out to http:// MOCworld.org. Monetary and instrument donations are gratefully accepted (both tax deductible). Email Joey and his friends at contact@mocworld.org.
