Top Level Magazine had the honor of interviewing best-selling author and mogul, Kecia J for our community spotlight!

1. You’ve been through

tremendous battles throughout your life from being diagnosed with AIDS as a teenager to surviving cancer. Share with us what it took for you to overcome these battles and for people dealing with a similar situation, what’s some sound words of encouragement you can give them?

Overcoming obstacles has been my ongoing marathon for quite some time, however, I know that I have been appointed to show other individuals who may be encountering some of life’s tumultuous battles that you have the power to fight through any storm that you may be facing. For me to get to the pinnacle in life that I am in right now took having a level of faith that would never waver under any circumstance. Once being diagnosed with AIDS sixteen years ago, I had to sit in a space of having two options; either

I am going to break from this, or I am going to simply just bend and use my inner power to fight to live a healthy life while educating. I, of course, chose the latter option. The cloth that I am cut from would not allow me to just give up by any means, so my subconscious mind automatically went into perseverance mode.

For those navigating not just

some of the same obstacles I faced, or just ANY trial and tribulation for that matter; the most powerful words I can say to you are, “YOU ARE CAPABLE”. Just those words alone will let a person know that despite where you are NOW, it has nothing to do with where you are capable of being. Often times our atmosphere, the voices in our heads, or even those we choose to share our space with can tend to drain us of the motivation or sound mind to know that YOU have the full capability to walk boldly in your truth and purpose, no matter what the road looked like to get there. Just for a person to be told, “YOU ARE CAPABLE” or in this moment “YOU ARE ENOUGH”, is just what a person needs to get to the next level of life.

2. You managed to make two of your brands, Love of

Anna Home Healthcare–named after your grandmother– and JWay

Logistics, work together to form something great in terms of combining healthcare and trucking transportation. Can you tell us a little bit about your vision with implementing these two brands to help the community?

Initially when the idea of opening a home healthcare entity came to my mind it was about having a place that could provide highly trained healthcare professionals in homes that would be great additions to the lives of families who need assistance navigating their loved one dealing with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Once I gained my first client in Compton, CA, Mrs. Brown, she showed me that “Love of Anna” was not just about putting the idea of helping others into one box because that is not what my grandmother Anna would do. She has raised me and loved me past ALL my indiscretions. So for me, I had to shape my home healthcare business on the foundation of just that!

Understanding the need of transportation being essential in the world and working in that field seeing how I could parallel the two, JWay Logistics was born. JWay is an acronym for “Journei’s Way Logistics” which is my daughter’s name, so combining the two and being of a vessel for those who are in need medically was a no brainer for me considering I have been on both side of the spectrum. I have been both the patient and the healthcare professional, so to have nurses and other healthcare professionals who have that same passion to simply love on and help others is so vital for me and that energy has resonated out to the clients of both businesses.

3. In this issue of Top

Level Magazine, we are celebrating the women in our lives that make us whole: mothers. Who are some of the mothers or influential women in your life that you would like to celebrate?

Through all the ups and downs there are two women who have remained in my corner consistently and that is my mother and grandmother.

They will forever be celebrated as long as I have breath in my lungs. During my battle with anal cancer, they both witnessed me endure brutal treatment and pain. In that time, I watched them be so steadfast and faithful even though there were times where

I could tell they would worry or

wanted to breakdown. Over the years I have seen them overcome their own obstacles with such poise, patience and perseverance. With that as my blueprint, it is a given why I exude the energy of never giving up no matter the circumstance!

4. Kecia J, you have a beautiful

young daughter named

Journei-Ahanna. How has motherhood impacted your life and what is something you would want your daughter to know about her amazing mom?

Journei has truly been a gift from God that I did not realize

I needed until I was holding her in my arms. She is literally a little version of me. It can feel surreal at times because

I know that she was put here for me and not the opposite. I believe the love that we as adults often chase is unconditional. In broken unhealed individuals until you truly experience the love of a little one–their love is so real, so pure and inviting with no judgment or requirements attached. Journei has shown me what true love really feels like and how to not be so immersed in the unimportant and vain aspects of life. The one jewel of knowledge that I would want her to know about her mommy is that, “no matter the circumstance in life, mommy never gave up and to always remember that everything you do is to fulfill you purpose in life”.

5. Congratulations on your

new book “Cancer Could

Neva…”! Tell me about what our audience can expect from your book and where they can find it.

Yes absolutely! Lol, “Cancer

Could NEVA” came about as I was laying in the hospital bed in the middle of cancer treatment. I was in so much pain from the tumors and the treatment that I was up in the middle of the night in tears. In the midst of the pain, I just blurted out “CANCER YOU COULD NEVA STOP ME…..PULL IT TOGETHER KECIA”, and a few months after that I came up with the book in a hope to help others who are in the their battle of overcoming trauma or an illness. My goal is to inspire others through my pain as I know that Cancer, HIV/ AIDS, Mental Health, Lupus or other issues and ailments that people may be facing can truly take a toll on our lives. I chose this book to be a voice and a vessel, never a victim. 6. You’re also the CEO of I

Am Kecia J Inc., where you strive to empower individuals by way of

“TRUTH”. Where do you envision I Am Kecia J Inc. to be in the future? And, how does it feel to inspire so many people in this world and be known as an empowerment maven ?

I am truly super excited about the new direction of the I Am

Kecia J brand! The way God is moving within me and the brand itself has been so very powerful. Not only is the whole foundation of the brand to empower, but it is also to show the masses by sharing my true story of how I have navigated those struggles in a way to lead them to their purpose. Because of that, I now have partnered with various social platforms as

my goal with I AM Kecia J is to go anywhere others will not to discuss and begin dialogue on various issues that are plaguing the culture. While doing that in the past ten years I have been stamped as the empowerment maven and it feels right. Simply because I know that I am called to empower and speak life into the masses, so when it comes to that label; I plan to represent being a global empowerment maven very well. These next few quarters of the year, I have a lot in store. From an empowerment tour to book signings and filming for a new documentary series; the world is going to be reintroduced to Kecia J in a whole new way!
