Hosted by The Authentic Design Alliance, HOME.GROWN was an inspired exhibition of Australian designers and makers, as part of the Sydney Design Festival. HOME.GROWN took place in the beautiful newly restored Mungo Scott Flour Mill in Summer Hill with 2 floors of local contemporary furniture, lighting, homewares and designer talks. Often both referred to as bar stools, the shorter version is actually a Counter Stool. Which one do you need? A counter-height bar stool is commonly 58-71cm from the floor to the seat. A bar-height bar stool is commonly 73 - 81cm from the floor to the seat. To find the right height stool for your bar or counter start by measuring your bar or counter from floor to the underneath of the bar top. Nothing is cosier than gathering around a bonfire with its beautiful flames and intense heat, and with the decorative FireGlobe fireplace, it is easy and safe to light a fire directly on the patio or elsewhere in the garden. FireGlobe is almost sculptural with its hemispherical shape that cleverly protects the fire from the wind. It is not just for cool evenings â&#x20AC;&#x201C; it is also intended as a decorative and warming element. A loose grate in the bottom of the globe ensures adequate ventilation, while the three legs keep the fire place sufficiently high above the ground to prevent scorching of the grass or paving stones.

We humans have gathered and told our stories around fires since our beginning. In the ever faster pace of our times, our need for moments of warmth, tranquility and togetherness is greater than ever. Eldvarm is an interior design company born around the fireplace, firmly rooted in Scandinavian tradition and culture. Founder, Louise Vare, grew up in Scandinavia. The fire was always important in her life. Her childhood home in Norway was warmed through the winter with several interior fireplaces. In summer, family and friends gathered in front of the outdoor fireplace in Louise’s beloved grandparents’ summer home in seaside Torekov, enjoying the magic of Sweden’s white nights. Eldvarm passionataly embraces the use of quality materials and sustainable practices and materials and works only with artisans her share their passion. For example - All the leather is from the Swedish tannery Tärnsjö, established in 1873 and considered to be one of Europe’s finest producers of vegetable tanned leather, and is the only certified organic tannery in the world. The tools meant to be used around the fire and, over time, their stories will show. Embrace the change as they show signs of usage — as the products take on a natural sheen and begin to mold into the hands that hold them.

13 An open flame warms the body and the soul. It is the simplicity of the design that makes the object so attractive and effective. As the bioethanol burns the main body of the fireplace heats and radiates warmth throughout the room. Cocoon fireplaces run on bioethanol, making the fires clean and environmentally friendly.

What type of combustion is used? Cocoon Fires run on bioethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol, drinking alcohol or grain alcohol. It is a biofuel which is most often derived from plants including corn, wheat, barley and sugarcane. How long does this type of fire burn for? The duration of the flame depends on the quantity, climate conditions, altitude, air current and the height of the flame. The burner contained inside can hold enough fuel to burn for up to 4-6 hours depending on the heat setting, which can be adjusted for comfort. How much heat is produced? The amount of heat emitted depends on several factors: how high you have the flames set, your home itself. If you have a lot of glass or you have concrete floors you will get heat loss, and it depends on the insulation of your home. The Cocoon Fires produce approx 3.6kw, which is equivalent to a small to medium gas or electric heater. Does it smell? The bioethanol (methylated spirits) smells slightly as you pour it into the tray, but does not emit an odour at all whilst the Cocoon Fire is burning.

The Jerry Can itself was designed by the Germans during World War II. These bathroom cabinets are upcycled from discarded Jerry Cans, which otherwise end up in landfill. They are collected up throughout Europe and bought to Copenhagen where old rust and paint is removed by sandblasting and then new powder coating added. Real timber internal shelving and panel detailing create the finishing touch. Each cabinet takes 3-4 weeks to make, with every single one resulting in a unique statement piece.

3 large strawberries ½ medium sized Navel or Valencia orange 2 oz (60g) roasted cacao nibs 7 oz (200ml) Tequila Blanco (Herencia Mexicana) 2 3/4 oz (80ml) Grand Marnier Wash fruit. Quarter strawberries lengthwise, stem on, and fan-slice them. Cut orange cross-grain into 1/8” thick slices. Arrange 6 strawberry fans in Porthole, alternating skin and pulp facing the glass pane. Sprinkle half of cacao nibs on strawberries. Arrange a layer of orange slices. Sprinkle rest of cacao nibs on oranges. Arrange remaining strawberries, lightly packing the Porthole cavity. Close Porthole, tighten screw, squeeze, snug screws, and check for a good seal. Combine Tequila and Grand Marnier. Fill Porthole with combined liquids. Infuse for a minimum of 30 minutes before sampling, consume within 4 hours (extended infusion of orange rind will turn the infusion bitter).
