Decatur County Meal Site Reopens
The long awaited time has finally arrived to see friends and neighbors once again, sharing the company of others and sharing Covid “war” stories. As with most things, the post covid meal site will not be the same as pre-covid. CDC guidelines will be followed and masks will be required and social distancing maintained. The room will be rearranged to accommodate these recommendations and yet allow for interaction among the group. It is also strongly encouraged that participants have received the vaccine. At this time, the meal site, located in the Leon Community Center, will only be open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays and will be manned by volunteers. These volunteers will make and serve coffee beginning at 9:30. Some days there will be planned activities. These will begin about 10:00. Planned activities may include anything from a speak-
er with a presentation on a subject of interest to seniors, to games, trivia, to surprise packets of activities that seniors can lead themselves. Other days the participants can gather to solve the problems of the world and hope the world will listen. All seniors are welcome to attend either the social time or the meal time or both. Prior participants and all seniors in the area are encouraged to come and enjoy the companionship and support systems that develop through these activities. The partnership with Decatur County Hospital has become even stronger through the pandemic in the past year. Not only have they been preparing great meals but they have also been portioning them and preparing them for delivery for the drivers. This process has worked well and will continue. The difference will be that when you order your meal you will let

Davis City Fire Department to Disband July 1 The Davis City Fire Department will disband July 1 of this year, according to the most recent Davis City Council minutes. During their regular meeting on April 19, the Council voted to disband the department following recommendation by Fire Chief Joel Frank to do so. According to Chief Frank his recommendation to close the de-
partment was based on the fact there is a lack of members and the members that the department has work out of town. “It is not safe for one member to respond to a call by themselves,” stated Chief Frank. The city and townships that the Davis City Department covers will have to contract with another department to provide fire protection.

Arriving to Weigh-in In Style
Soiyer Smith didn’t need a trailer to bring her goat to weigh-in. The front seat worked just fine. Driver for the outing was Soiyer’s dad, Jason Smith. Other unique modes of transportation for the day were the back hatch of a jeep, dog kennel and a three axle 35 foot trailer for two itty, bitty goats. (contributed photo) Decatur County Fairboard members were excited to hold their first event of the year in the new show barn. It was weigh-in day for market goats, market sheep and swine on Saturday, April 17.
There were total of 38 goats weighed in and 35 sheep. It was optional to weigh-in swine. Everyone admired the new barn and enjoyed the good feeling that everything was starting to come together again.

The boil advisory had been put into place on Monday, April 19 following a water main break. The break was repaired but due to the system being depressurized was the cause for the initial boil advisory.
