Every international event comes with a necessity for housing students from abroad. Fortunately, our school is full of people willing to take the responsibility of hosting the guests from countries all around the world. Housing is a great opportunity to introduce our cuisine, traditions and beliefs. It also encourages cultural exchange.
This year our school welcomed students from many countries including: Spain, Finland, Germany, Hungary, US, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Palestine, Ukraine. For the next few days they are going to stay with their hosts and hopefully during that time they will become good friends.
After talking with the hosts we are sure they are having a great time together, even though our students have hobbies outside of school they use it as an opportunity to share a piece of themselves and show what they are good at. From what we heard, usually there are funny misunderstandings between the host and guest, for example one of the hosts had mistaken the guest’s surname and first name so he couldn’t find him when they arrived. Another story from a host: It was 6 a.m. my first alarm just rung and my mum came to tell me that my guest had been up sice 5.00 a.m. ! I was surprised because I didn’t expect her to wake up that early. The funniest thing is that we still ended up being late.
Of course, at first it might be a bit awkward but the more time they spend together, the better they get along.Overall housing, even if it seems intimidating at first, it can turn into a very fun and memorable experience.
The Polish language is often problematic. Also, for Poles. For this reason, we know many „tongue twisters”. Saying them can be difficult but also fun. We are challenging you, dear delegates. Try to say the twists from the list below.
Sasha was walking along a dry road. The road is always dry during a drought.

Jerry is lying in a tower, and he doesn’t believe that inside of this tower there are 100 hedgehogs and 50 porcupines.
4. Wpadł ptak do wytapetowanego pokoju.
(v-pa-dou pta-ck dou vy-ta-pey-toe-va-ne-go pock-oyue)
A bird just flew into a wallpapered room.

A postmaster from Tczewo.
7. W Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie, a Szczebrzeszyn z tego słynie.

This year’s main topic is “Common steps towards sustainable development”. It certainly is a thought provoking and wide subject that must be considered on sundry levels and for that reason there are so many committees during TOMUN, that raise this subject from different perspectives.
Sustainable development is something that biggest world’s organizations are trying to provide for all the people, as it guarantees justice and equality for each person, country and society. There are many issues that need to be solved appropriately in order to make the world a better place.
Complexity of every issue, varied for everyone involved in it makes finding the perfect resolution impossible. Those who invent them have to make decisions based on compromises and agreements that never fully satisfy the crowd. They must choose those that cause lesser evil.
All the committees discuss the topic form their own perspective and come up with different conclusions. Alina Zelle, Belgian delegate in UNODC committee that was looking for the solutions of drug addiction among adolescents issue deems: “We need to start at the beginning, at the root of the problem. Even as early as elementary school”.
It’s hard to believe that certain problems that have been taken up, are still taking place in XXI century. Francesco Sofia who represents Sweden in UNICEF committee confessed that he didn’t even suspect that some of the discussed topics, such as exploitation of children, were still an issue that needs to be fixed.
Marcelina Marciniak, the Deputy Chair of UNEPclaims: “What should be important, is actually the voice of youth, of people from current generation that want to adjust the world to current needs, and not those that elders in government consider needed”. Maria Gołaś, the representant of Brasil from the same committee adds: “Decisions that are made now are not for now. They are for the future. The future of our children, our grandkids. Older generations already made their changes, now it’s time for us”.
This topic’s width makes it such an interesting and controversial theme for a debate that might effect as visible changes in the world. We wish all the delegates wonderful ideas that will make the incoming
